Athens (Greece), June 8 (Ians) The Flame of Hope, which will be burning for the Berlin 2023 Special Olympics World Games, was lit and the torch handed over to German organisers of the Games which will be held from June 17-25.
The ritual ceremony was held here on Wednesday with the participation of Special Olympics athletes in the tradition of lighting the flame for the Olympic Games.
The event was hosted at Zappeion exhibition hall, near the stadium which hosted the first modern Olympics in 1896.
The flame was ignited out of a concave mirror using the sun’s rays. A Greek girl playing the role of an ancient Greek High Priestess lit the torch, and handed it over to the German organizers of the Games, which is to be held from June 17-25, reports Xinhua.

TV Guide Channel is adding another new original series to its lineup with the debut of the weekly talk show The Fashion Team at 8 p.m. Oct. 10. Fashion Team will be hosted by New York celebrity stylist David Evangelista, a fashion contributor on CBS' The Early Show, and comedian Daphne Brogdon, who has appeared on VH1 and CMT. Regular segments will include a look at fashion-forward TV stars and how their onscreen style can spawn real-world fashion trends, fashion "hits and misses" from the red carpet and "cheap chic" advice on how viewers can dress like stars on a nondesigner budget. The show also will feature a third host -- ranging from TV stars, runway models and fashion magazine editors -- who will rotate on a weekly basis, as well as in-studio guests. New episodes of Fashion Team will premiere at 8 p.m. Tuesdays throughout 2006.
