It’s the end of the road for NCIS: Hawai’i.
The third NCIS spin-off has been canceled after three seasons on CBS.
The sad news came out this afternoon as CBS decided not to order a fourth season.
NCIS: Hawai’i had been on the renewal bubble for a while, with the network forced to make a difficult decision due to its packed schedule.
While NCIS was picked up for its 22nd season and NCIS: Sydney Season 2 got ordered, the Vanessa Lachey-led show did not survive.
This will be rough news for fans who have enjoyed watching the Hawaiin spin-off featuring Lachey, LL Cool J, and the rest of the cast.

After three seasons, NCIS: Hawai’i has been cancelled by CBS. While the show was on the bubble, Deadline says it’s still a little surprising as there had been talks of an “abbreviated fourth and final season,” but that would have come with a massive budget cut.
NCIS: Hawai’i starred Vanessa Lachey as Jane Tennant, the first female Special Agent-in-Charge of the NCIS: Hawaiʻi Field Office. The finale of the third season, which will now be a series finale, will air on May 6th. Sources say that while it wasn’t meant to be a series finale, the episode won’t end on a major cliffhanger that will leave fans frustrated. With just three seasons under its belt, this places NCIS: Hawai’i has the shortest series in the franchise, following NCIS: New Orleans with 7 seasons and NCIS: Los Angeles with 14 seasons. The flagship series is still going strong and was...

CBS is shutting down one of its NCIS field offices.
The network has canceled NCIS: Hawai’i after three seasons. The show’s season — and now series — finale is set to air on May 6.
The series, which stars Vanessa Lachey and added former NCIS: Los Angeles star LL Cool J to its cast this season, will likely end up as the most watched show to be canceled this season — topping two other canceled CBS shows, CSI: Vegas and So Help Me Todd. NCIS: Hawai’i is averaging about 7.8 million viewers in Nielsen’s seven-day linear ratings this season, and it hits 10 million viewers over 35 days of cross-platform viewing.
Those numbers would make for easy renewals most anyplace else, but they put NCIS: Hawai’i only in the middle of the pack at CBS. The network will also introduce a new NCIS series in the 2024-25 season, a prequel subtitled Origins that follows a...

“NCIS: Hawai’i” has been canceled at CBS.
The “NCIS” spinoff is currently airing its third season at the broadcast network. The season finale scheduled to air on May 6 will now serve as the series finale.
“NCIS: Hawai’i” was the fourth series in the “NCIS” franchise and is now the third series to end. Both “NCIS: New Orleans” and “NCIS: Los Angeles” ended in the past few years after seven and 14 seasons respectively.
That is not to say the franchise is not still going strong. The mothership series was renewed at the beginning of April. CBS is also prepping a prequel series about a young Jethro Leroy Gibbs, while Paramount+ is readying a spinoff that will see the returns of both Cote de Pablo and Michael Weatherly. Paramount+ and CBS also air “NCIS: Sydney,” which was renewed for a second season in March.

Fans desperately want to know if NCIS: Hawai’i will be canceled or renewed for a fourth season.
As of the writing of this article, CBS has not announced the future of the NCIS spin-off.
The network might not be as sure of the Monday night drama as it once was.
One of the issues that CBS faces is the number of successful dramas that have already been renewed for Fall 2024.
The success of Elsbeth, Tracker, and Fire Country has taken up three hours of primetime slots. And CBS recently renewed S.W.A.T. as well.
In some unfortunate news for television viewers, CBS has also canceled So Help Me Todd and CSI: Vegas.

Only three new episodes remain on the NCIS: Hawai’i Season 3 schedule.
It’s a shorter season than usual, meaning the summer hiatus also arrives soon.
Questions still exist about whether or not CBS will renew the NCIS spin-off.
When this article was published, the network had not renewed or canceled the hit drama.
And it is still a hit show, with NCIS: Hawai’i ranking 12th in linear viewership among all broadcast non-sports shows. That’s impressive.
But will CBS have room for NCIS: Hawai’i on the schedule after ordering NCIS: Origins and renewing Tracker, Elsbeth, and S.W.A.T. already? Stay tuned.

NCIS: Origins has added Daniel Bellomy (Power Book II: Ghost), Caleb Martin Foote (Made For Love) and Robert Taylor (Longmire) in recurring roles. The CBS prequel to the venerable procedural has a straight-to-series order for the 2024-2025 broadcast season.
Executive produced and narrated by Mark Harmon, Origins begins in 1991, years before the events of NCIS, and chronicles Leroy Jethro Gibbs’ younger years. In the prequel, Gibbs (Austin Stowell) starts his career as a newly minted special agent at the fledgling Nis Camp Pendleton office where he forges his place on a gritty, ragtag team led by NCIS legend Mike Franks (Kyle Schmid).
Additionally, Mariel Molina will play Special Agent Lala Dominguez, Tyla Abercrumbie will play Field Operation Support Officer Mary Jo Sullivan and Diany Rodriguez will play Special Agent Vera Strickland.

It will be a long wait until the first NCIS: Europe episode arrives.
That’s the unofficial name some NCIS fans gave the new spin-off featuring Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo.
The name does fit, as it’s an NCIS show in Europe, leading to a very fitting possible name. But CBS hasn’t announced what they are calling it yet.
Since it’s easier to keep calling it that as a point of reference, it’s what we will do for the rest of this article.
NCIS: Europe tells the continued stories of NCIS agents Anthony Dinozzo and Ziva David. One chapter in their overseas lives will be examined in the first season of the new series.
Tony and Ziva are raising their daughter (Tali) in Paris. When Tony’s security company gets attacked, the family flees through Europe. Thus making this the first mobile NCIS series.

In case you somehow missed it, the 1,000th episode of the NCISverse is upcoming.
That will be NCIS Season 21 Episode 7, airing on CBS at 9 p.m. Monday, April 15.
The event was heralded by an Entertainment Tonight special hosted by Kevin Frazier, which aired April 8 on CBS. It's likely still available on streaming service Paramount+.
NCIS has been on 21 seasons, NCIS: Los Angeles lasted 14 seasons, and NCIS: New Orleans seven. NCIS: Hawaii is in its third season, while NCIS: Sydney recently finished its first season. You do the math to get to 999.
So, as the NCISverse's 1,000th episode approaches, would now be the peak for the franchise, with two spinoffs airing this season and two new spinoffs planned for next season?
Not at all, although this certainly could be seen as the golden age of NCIS Recycling, which admittedly is at least in vogue now.

“NCIS” and “The Neighborhood” have both been renewed at CBS.
The renewal will bring “NCIS” to its 22nd season, while “The Neighborhood” will be back for its seventh season. Both shows currently air on Mondays on the broadcast network.
“’The Neighborhood’ and ‘NCIS’ are the very best definition of a CBS comedy and drama,” said Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment. “They embody authentic storytelling with heart, humor, and family dynamics. We are proud to bring them back next season.”
“NCIS” has long been a cornerstone of the CBS scripted lineup. Per CBS, the series is still averaging 12.9 million multiplatform viewers, even this late in its run. The show serves as the foundation for a TV franchise that continues to pay off for CBS and parent company Paramount. Many NCIS and NCIS: Hawai’i fans may be in for a shock. Today, CBS announced that the current seasons are close to ending.
The NCISverse celebrated April 8 with a primetime special about the first 1,000 episodes. This includes content from NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles, NCIS: New Orleans, NCIS: Sydney, and NCIS: Hawai’i.
It’s a huge milestone for the franchise, and many new episodes are still coming- just not this spring.
As a reminder, two Hollywood strikes caused delays in production for most scripted shows. This means shorter seasons for the hit dramas.
NCIS Season 21 has only 10 episodes, with the seventh airing on April 15. That’s the night the franchise debuts its 1,000th NCIS episode.
NCIS: Hawai’i Season 3 also has only 10 episodes, and Vanessa Lachey recently celebrated filming ending.

The world of NCIS keeps growing, with two shows currently airing new seasons (the mothership and Hawai’i), one already set to return for another (Sydney), and two more ordered to series for some time in 2024-2025. One of those new ones is NCIS: Origins, a prequel story about Leroy Jethro Gibbs’ early years, picking up in 1991. (The other is a spinoff about Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo’s characters.) Mark Harmon serves as narrator and executive producer, and Austin Stowell will play the young version of the character he starred as for 19 seasons on NCIS. “I was aware of it before it got going. I knew about the initial ideas of it and stuff, but NCIS: Origins sounds to me something that could be very, very cool,” NCIS star Sean Murray (who has played Timothy McGee since Season 1) tells TV Insider. “I mean, Gibbs in the early days...

NCIS would welcome several new actors into Mark Harmon’s team of special agents over the years. Michael Weatherly joked one new co-star’s attractiveness was overlooked by the show, which made things complicated on set.

When Cote De Pablo first left the show, it left a wide absence that NCIS was hoping to fill. The long-running procedural would cast Wickersham in the role as agent Eleanor Bishop in season 11. And at the time, she was well aware that a few might see her as an attempt to replace De Pablo’s Ziva David. This just added to her nerves, but Wickersham was welcomed with a warm reception by most NCIS fans that put her at ease.

The NCIS franchise continues to expand, and one of the upcoming shows is going to give fans exactly what they’ve wanted for years: more Tony (Michael Weatherly) and Ziva (Cote de Pablo)! De Pablo left NCIS in 11 before returning for the Season 16 finale and four episodes of Season 17. Weatherly exited at the end of Season 13 and was last seen at the end of the tribute to Ducky and the late David McCallum in the current 21st season. The new series was given a straight-to-series order on February 28. “We’ve been talking about this story for many years, and now with John McNamara at the helm, we are ready,” said Weatherly and de Pablo at the time. “The world of Tony and Ziva (and daughter Tali) promises to be an action-packed roller coaster fueled by love, danger, tears and laughter. We also want to acknowledge and thank the fans from...

A new NCIS spin-off focuses on the return of Anthony Dinozzo and Ziva David.
NCIS cast members Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo are attached to the project that some fans have dubbed NCIS: Europe.
Having these fan-favorite characters back in the mix opens new doors for the franchise.
Ahead of appearing on the new spin-off, Michael popped in for the Ducky tribute episode on NCIS.
It was good to see Michael and Sean Murray (Timothy McGee) interacting again, almost as if no time had passed.
Now, work begins on a new chapter in the lives of Tony and Ziva, with the spin-off serving as a continuation for those characters.
Why won’t NCIS: Europe be shown on CBS?
The new NCIS spin-off is being filmed with the intent of only streaming it on Paramount+. This means only subscribers to the service can watch the new show.

If you’re a bit jealous that Paramount+ will be the exclusive home of the new NCIS spinoff revolving around Tony and Ziva, know that the head of CBS Entertainment is, as well.
Announced on Feb. 28 as a Paramount+ original and reuniting franchise vets Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo on-screen for the first time since October 2013, the yet-to-be titled spinoff will follow Tony Dinozzo and Ziva David as they go on the run across Europe, trying to figure out who is targeting them, so that they and daughter Tali can finally have their “happily ever after.”

The NCIS franchise will be airing its 1,000th episode on April 15, and CBS Studios President David Stapf has been involved in every single one of them. Because he was head of CBS current programming at the time, he even participated in the development of the mothership series from Day 1 because it originated as two back-door pilot episodes of an existing show, Jag, that aired in April 2003. He was in on all casting sessions and still remembers Pauley Perrette’s audition that won her the role of Abby in the room.

On March 19, CBS announced that it had renewed NCIS: Sydney for a second season, which will air during the 2024-25 broadcast season. The renewal corresponds with a season 2 order from Paramount+ Australia.
NCIS: Sydney premiered in November 2023. The show was originally created for Paramount+ Australia, but it earned a spot on CBS’s fall schedule due to the Hollywood strikes. It was a ratings success, averaging 8 million viewers per episode across different platforms.
“The global power of the NCIS franchise became even stronger on broadcast and streaming with the addition of NCIS: Sydney,” said Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment.

Has NCIS: Sydney been renewed for Season 2? This new hit CBS military procedural series was the biggest hit of the fall 2023 broadcast season. This was the first international NCIS spinoff.
Originally, this spinoff was destined for Paramount+. However, as the strikes prevented CBS from making new episodes, they patched up a new schedule of primarily game shows and moved this series to CBS. The result was a surprisingly huge hit for the network.
Therefore, has this Aussie-based series been renewed for Season 2?

NCIS is rolling out a new spin-off that brings back some characters from the past.
Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo have signed on to star in a new NCIS drama, allowing them to tell more stories about their fan-favorite characters.
Cote played Agent Ziva David for many years, and she originally left NCIS in Season 11. She would later return for some intense episodes involving Leroy Jethro Gibbs (played by Mark Harmon).
Michael ended his NCIS run as Agent Anthony Dinozzo in Season 13. The story had him exiting the job to care for a daughter he shared with ZIva. At the time of Dinozzo’s exit, he believed Ziva had died.
Many years have passed since Tony and Ziva shared the screen, but that all will change thanks to a new show that folks are calling NCIS: Europe (not the official name… yet).

There were plenty of teases throughout the series, but although the characters were getting closer, there were times they were also constantly at odds with each other. Exclusive: Mariel Molino has been tapped as the female lead opposite Austin Stowell in CBS‘ Young Gibbs drama NCIS: Origins, a prequel to the venerable procedural, which has a straight-to-series order for the 2024-2025 broadcast season.
Narrated by Harmon, the CBS Studios-produced show begins in 1991, years prior to the events of NCIS, and chronicles Leroy Jethro Gibbs’ younger years. In the prequel, Gibbs (Stowell) starts his career as a newly minted special agent at the fledgling Nis Camp Pendleton office where he forges his place on a gritty, ragtag team led by NCIS legend Mike Franks.
Molino will play Special Agent Lala Dominguez, a former Marine who navigates her 1990s male-dominated field with a steely resolve and a dark sense of humor. When a tormented Leroy Jethro Gibbs joins her team, the ensuing story between these two enigmatic outsiders is filled with sparks and turns that will keep the audience guessing.

The 1,000th NCIS episode in franchise history debuts this spring on CBS.
To celebrate the big event, characters from the past and the spin-off shows will appear.
Sean Murray (he plays Agent Timothy McGee) shared NCIS set photos revealing a character returning to the show.
Much like how they dealt with the build-up for the Ducky tribute episode, cast members have been sharing social media images for Episode 1,000.
It’s also possible that some surprises are being held back to entertain viewers tuning in on the big night.
The 1,000-episode count includes NCIS and all of its spin-off shows. That includes Los Angeles, Hawai’i, and New Orleans. Reaching the 1,000-episode mark for the franchise is very impressive.
Guest stars slated to appear on special NCIS episode
NCIS spoilers have revealed some fun new details about the April 15 episode. This is when the 1,000th episode of the franchise will debut on CBS.

For its tribute to the late David McCallum and his character, Dr. Donald “Ducky” Mallard, NCIS pulled off quite the surprise: the return of Michael Weatherly as Tony Dinozzo. It was kept under wraps, besides those who needed to know, and the scene allowed for the show to honor Ducky and reunite Tony with close friends Timothy McGee (Sean Murray) and Dr. Jimmy Palmer. It, of course, included a new nickname for McGee (McHurry). When TV Insider caught up with Murray — lots of fun stuff to come from this chat, but here’s the start! —we asked him about filming that as well as the upcoming Tony and Ziva spinoff with Weatherly and Cote de Pablo. Michael Weatherly just returned for that fantastic tribute to Ducky and David McCallum, and that episode made me cry. It was so good. Sean Murray: That was a really good one. And Dietzen helped pen that one.

NCIS Season 21 is still filming upcoming episodes, with the season finale slated to air this spring.
Despite this being a shortened season due to the Hollywood strikes, NCIS is about to have a monumental event.
NCIS will soon debut the 1,000th episode of an NCIS program (counting all its spin-offs). This is a big deal for the franchise.
That big episode is reportedly slated to arrive on Monday, April 15, with plenty of fanfare from CBS expected.
To take a franchise to 1000 episodes and beyond is extremely impressive, and there are no signs of the NCIS Universe slowing down.

NCIS has been part of the television landscape for the past two decades.
Following a two-episode backdoor pilot on Jag in 2003, the redundantly named Navy NCIS: Naval Criminal Investigative Service debuted in the fall of that year.
Although it started slowly ratings-wise in its first couple of seasons, a franchise soon was born.
Now in its 21st season, NCIS has produced more than 450 episodes and six spinoff series, a record unmatched in TV history (although Law & Order fans doubtless will quibble).
Maybe now, shortly after the series said goodbye to its second-most popular character on NCIS Season 21 Episode 2, would be a good time for a hiatus.
That's insane, you say, what with two new spinoffs in the pipeline.
Look back fondly

Millions of viewers are watching NCIS on Monday nights again this winter.
Though two Hollywood strikes delayed the start of Season 21, NCIS returned on February 12 with new content.
Four consecutive weeks of new episodes aired on CBS, including a touching Ducky tribute episode.
Michael Weatherly returned for that tribute to actor David McCallum. Seeing Michael on screen as Anthony Dinozzo again was a treat.
On March 4, the episode Left Unsaid debuted, but it also began a new hiatus where fans have to wait for a few weeks.

When does NCIS return with new episodes?
March 11 and March 18 will feature repeat episodes of NCIS. CBS will show the season premiere again (Algún Día) and follow that with The Stories We Leave Behind (Ducky tribute).

The NCIS prequel at CBS has found its young Gibbs.
Austin Stowell (Peacock’s A Friend of the Family) will play the younger version of Leroy Jethro Gibbs in NCIS: Origins, which is set in 1991 and will look at the early days of Gibbs’ career in the Navy’s criminal investigations branch. The show’s time frame, 12 years before NCIS began, and Stowell’s real-life age, 39, track with that of Mark Harmon (51) when he originated the character on NCIS predecessor Jag in 2003.
NCIS: Origins is set to be part of CBS’ 2024-25 schedule, as the network gave the show a straight-to-series order in early January. The franchise from CBS Studios currently encompasses the main series, which is in its 21st season; 3-year-old spinoff NCIS: Hawai’i; NCIS: Sydney, the first international edition of the show; and a forthcoming Paramount+ spinoff that will feature the return of former regulars Cote de Pablo and Michael Weatherly.

Paramount Global CEO Bob Bakish derided a planned streaming venture backed by Disney, Fox Corp. and Warner Bros. Discovery for having “only a subset of sports.”
In his first public comments since the announcement of the service, which does not include any Paramount or NBCUniversal properties, Bakish noted several gaps it will have.
“There’s still a lot we don’t know about this service, things like price, packaging, consumer appetite,” he said on Paramount’s fourth-quarter earnings call. “To the consumer point, for the true sports fan, this product only has a subset of sports. It’s missing half the NFL, a lot of college, has virtually no soccer or golf, etc. It’s hard to believe that’s ideal, especially at the price points that have been speculated.”
