Artists from different genres and eras can create similar songs. Rihanna‘s “Diamonds” has some interesting similarities to a song from The Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. Both tracks have the same central theme, even if that isn’t obvious at first.
Rihanna’s ‘Diamonds’ was co-written by a pop star and a pair of important producers
Tor Erik Hermansen and Mikkel Storleer Eriksen are a pair of musical producers collectively known as Stargate. Stargate produced big singles like Beyoncé’s “Irreplaceable,” Selena Gomez’s “Come & Get It,” and Katy Perry’s “Firework.” They’ve also worked on several Rihanna hits, including “Diamonds,” which they co-wrote with pop star Sia. During a 2018 interview with Entertainment Weekly, Hermansen said they wanted to write something different, and Sia spontaneously came up with a lyric about “diamonds in the sky.”
There is one other pop hit with similar lyrics:...

Lawyers for Sam Smith and Normani are asking a judge to reject the bulk of an amended copyright infringement lawsuit that alleges the superstar duo’s 2019 multiplatinum hit “Dancing With a Stranger” stole from a 2015 song by the same name.
In a recently filed dismissal motion obtained by Rolling Stone, the lawyers say the revised complaint, filed Aug. 15, doesn’t go far enough in addressing the alleged deficiencies listed in their prior dismissal motion filed back in July, which was set aside to give the plaintiffs a chance to update their pleadings.

A new copyright infringement lawsuit claims Sam Smith and Normani copied essential elements of a 2015 song titled “Dancing With a Stranger” to release their own sultry single by the same name four years later.
In the complaint filed in federal court in Los Angeles on Friday, songwriters Jordan Vincent, Christopher Miranda and Rosco Banlaoi allege that Smith’s moody, multiplatinum duet with the former Fifth Harmony band member has the “same” title, chorus and composition as the song previously published on Vincent’s YouTube channel, Spotify and other streaming services on Aug.

This year her husband Jay-z reaped a leading eight bids for his lucky 13th studio album “4:44.” Kendrick Lamar has seven nominations for his album “Damn” while Bruno Mars earned six for his disc “24K Magic.” All three contend for the top prize, Album of the Year, as do Emmy winner Donald Glover (“Atlanta”) in his guise as Childish Gambino for “Awaken, My Love!” and Lorde for “Melodrama.” While Glover has five nominations in all, this is the only bid by Lorde, whose album was a critical favorite but did not produce any hit singles. The nominees are in for the 60th Annual Grammy Awards, and music's biggest night will feature some of your favorite artists ...though some were snubbed.
Singer-songwriter Andra Day announced the four major categories -- Best New Artist, Record Of The Year, Song Of The Year, and Album Of The Year -- on Tuesday's CBS This Morning.
As far as snubs go, Ed Sheeran was only nominated for Best Pop Solo Performance for his track, "Shape of You," to the shock of many of his fans. Lady Gaga and Kesha also received minimal nominations, despite the popularity of their albums.
However, Jay-Z and Kendrick Lamar earned quite a few Grammy nods, as well as Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee's "Despacito" song that features Justin Bieber.

After there was some chatter about what Rihanna's next Talk That Talk single would be, the singer confirmed it on Twitter late Tuesday night when she dropped the cover art for the album's title track.
"#TALKthatTALK love u guys! Been missin u," she tweeted along with the cover art, which features her looking fierce and done up in her street punk/rockabilly clothes as she slouches against a wall. The Stargate-produced track features her mentor, new dad Jay-z.
Rihanna confirmed that she and Hova would appear on the song together back in November, weeks before she dropped the album. "We are very happy with the song, and Jay's verse is crazy — same with Rihanna's part," Stargate member Tor Erik Hermansen explained at the time, adding that the song...

It's been a while since Jay-z and Rihanna have collaborated, and the release of her new album Talk That Talk on November 21 seems like as good a time as any.
Norwegian production team Stargate spilled the beans that Hova will appear on Ri's next album. In an interview posted on Complex.com, Stargate member Tor Erik Hermansen described the track as a "midtempo banger with hard drums, dirty synths, and Rihanna and Jay at their best.
"We are very happy with the song, and Jay's verse is crazy — same with Rihanna's part," he told the mag.
Rihanna took to Twitter on Tuesday (November 8) to confirm that her mentor will appear on the song "Talk That Talk": "Yes sir! Jigga man is on the title track #Ttt.

Lea Michele's Rachel belts her take on Katy Perry's self-esteem anthem.

Lea Michele performs "Firework" on "Glee"

Madonna and Lady Gaga had their very own episodes, but Katy Perry could very well be the unofficial queen of "Glee." Her music has found its way to the immensely popular series three times this season, twice this week alone, for some pretty big moments.
Her hit "Teenage Dream" got a second life as newcomer Darren Criss turned it into the show's fastest-selling single yet last fall. Then came this Sunday's post-Super Bowl episode, in which her ubiquitous summer song "California Gurls" set the scene for the Cheerios' over-the-top opening number.
Now, her chart-topping latest single, "Firework," has gotten the royal treatment from Ryan Murphy, when Lea Michele took a crack at the self-esteem anthem in Tuesday night's Valentine's Day episode, titled "Silly Love Songs." When...

Rihanna and Drake's collaboration on the remix of "What's My Name" wasn't one of those studies in industry politics where labels wrangle two stars for the sake of an on-trend hit. Instead, Rihanna personally invited Drake to jump on the track, which is slated to appear as a bonus cut on her upcoming release, Loud.
"She played the record to Drake backstage somewhere to try to get him on a verse," Stargate producer Tor Erik Hermansen, who has worked with the singer on her forthcoming fifth LP, told Billboard magazine. "She's calling me up saying, 'Where are the files?' That's one thing you don't hear often from artists on her level."
