Despite some questionable eliminations in the early rounds, American Idol's fifteenth season has given fans one of the strongest top four in recent Idol history. So it was nice to see all four talented singers—Mackenzie Bourg, Dalton Rapattoni, Trent Harmon and La'Porsha Renae—get the hometown visit treatment: parades, home-cooked meals and all. And it's no coincidence that the songs they each dedicated to said hometowns in the first round were some of their best performances of the season. Mackenzie sang the done-a-million-times "Hallelujah," but it was still great. Dalton picked "Calling You," by Blue October, a band from North Texas (like him). Trent put a beautiful spin on the...

With an Ep name like "Miracle," Harvard Of The South are really setting a high bar for themselves. Their brand of roots-tinged, Elbow-style pop-rock hits more subtly than a good ol'-fashioned supernatural activity, and that's due to the expertise of the songmakers. Harvard Of The South consists of rock veterans Steve Schlitz (of Longwave) and Blue October brothers Jeremy and Justin Furstenfeld, plus bassist Matt Noveskey. Today HitFix exclusive reveals the lyric/music video to the title track "Miracle," which Jeremy calls a "special" tune. "This is a special one to us... I think it showed us we were on the right track, and we should continue this 'Experiment.' I remember during the process of this song, I was playing a straight beat. S The video we made for this video caught me by surprise. Steve's friend, Bill, put this together for us using his own ideas and imagination of the song.

I've come to the conclusion that 2013 is the year when pop music died thanks to Katy Perry and Lady Gaga. Indie rock is the new norm, for some terrifying reason, as Arcade Fire and Vampire Weekend became more common than The Black Keys. Rap is more contrived than ever thanks to Kanye West and Jay-z's bloated egos and mediocre albums. And overall the music has suffered greatly because of it all making this past year far weaker in my eyes than 2012. Before I run down what I feel are my favorite and most disappointing albums of the year I have to acknowledge the very worthy runner-ups. Although they didn't make the list: Filter, Blue October, The Lonely Island, Gemini Syndrome, Dropkick Murphys, Eminem, Hatebreed, Queens of The Stone Age, Snoop Lion, Dave Grohl's 'Sound City' collaborations...

Watch the Throne stays at #1, despite 59 percent drop in sales.

After an impressive debut week on the Billboard 200 chart, Kanye West and Jay-z's collaborative effort Watch the Throne, will once again sit at the top. Adding to the 436,000 copies they sold last week, the hip-hop dynamos moved another 177,000 this week, bringing their current total to 613,000, according to Nielsen SoundScan figures.
While the Throne won't get bragging rights to 2011's biggest first-week seller on the Billboard charts (that honor still belongs to Lady Gaga), they successfully beat Coldplay's Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends record for one-week sales on iTunes. And needless to say, they've claimed the #1 spot on iTunes once again.
Though the second week of Watch the Throne saw a 59 percent drop in sales, it was enough to hold off chart newcomers. None of the week's debuts saw six-digit sales,...

Twilight author Stephenie Meyer loves Blue October. Simple as that.
Back in June, 2008 she and Blue October announced that for Breaking Dawn's release, she and lead singer and songwriter Justin Furstenfeld would be joining hands for a mini-tour across the United States.
Check out this video of the two of them talking about that very news, and you will see how enthusiastic Stephenie Meyer was about having Furstenfeld in her corner for the event.
The band is also featured on Meyer's New Moon playlist for "Sound of Pulling Heaven Down" and "Hate Me (Radio Edit)," her Eclipse playlist for "Overweight (Radio Edit)," and, naturally, her Breaking Dawn playlist for "Congratulations." (Also, the band is cited for their songs "Ugly Side" and "You Make Me Smile" on Stephenie Meyer's Midnight Sun playlist.)

Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and the rest of the "Twilight" franchise cast spent their summers working on other projects and getting their photos snapped by every paparazzo in the universe before heading back to Vancouver to film "Eclipse." Sliding just a bit further under the radar, "Twilight" author Stephenie Meyer drifted through the sunny season listening to indie rock and sneaking into a movie theater to catch the trailer for the latest adaptation of her vampire saga.
In an update on her Web site, Meyer wrote, "Admittedly, I went to see the 'New Moon' trailer on the big screen (yes, I'm a total dork. Who cares? It was worth it)."

We have a new interview with Blue October for you that was originally on Fuse TV. The interview is really quite lengthy as the group talks about their new album Approaching Normal. They also speak about where the inspiration for their music and lyrics come from. At about 450 into the interview Justin talks about getting to know Stephenie Meyer and how they came to work together on the Breaking Dawn concert series and what the Twilight fans mean to him. Enjoy! Thanks Alissa!Im a huge fan of Blue October and I really like Justin so I really enjoyed this interview. I love how they draw inspiration for their music from real life. I also love how genuinely grateful Justin is to Stephenie Meyer and the Twilight world. What did you think of this interview? Do you like how much Stephenie was inspired by their music? There are several Blue October tracks on Stephenies playlists.

The sound of Bell X1 is definitely unique, mixing shades of U2 and Blue October into their somewhat .folky. new album, .Blue Lights on the Runway.. Their new album is not entirely mind blowing, but there are a couple of really catchy hooks in the songs and it is easy to find yourself humming .The Great Defector. hours after listening to the song. I noticed the significant use of a synthesizer in their songs, which gives a little more flavor and color to their style. The Irish band could make a huge splash in the U.S. markets with the rhythmic, smooth sound on the CD. The music gives meaning to the word .artist.. Although the lyrics...

A music video in accompaniment of Blue October's new single "Dirt Room" has been premiered. It captures a man breaking into a house and trying to steal some jewelry. Despite the fact that she is only a lady, the owner seizes the guy.
Tying both his hands and feet, she blusters at him by carrying a shovel and digging a hole in her backyard. She then puts the frightened man in the hole but instead of burying him there, she leaves him and comes back with police officers and several neighbors.
"Dirt Room" is one of the new tracks included in Blue October's forthcoming fifth studio effort "Approaching Normal". The Steve Lillywhite-produced album will be in U.S. stores on March 24, while the song has been available for purchase since December 2008.
