Mark Miller, who portrayed the patriarch of a castle-dwelling family on the 1960s NBC sitcom Please Don’t Eat the Daisies and co-wrote the Keanu Reeves-starring romantic drama A Walk in the Clouds, has died. He was 97.
Miler died Friday in Santa Monica of natural causes, a family spokesperson announced. Survivors include his daughter and Tony-nominated actress Penelope Ann Miller.
Miller also wrote, produced and starred in the classic family film Savannah Smiles (1982), which was inspired by and named for his youngest daughter. It’s the story of a runaway girl (Bridgette Andersen) who forms an improvised family with the two escaped convicts (Miller, Donovan Scott) who find her.
On Please Don’t Eat the Daisies, which aired for two seasons and 58 episodes from 1965-67, the native Texan played college professor Jim Nash opposite Patricia Crowley as newspaper writer Joan Nash. They are the...

It’s been a crazy weekend for Marisa Miller as she and her husband Griffin Guess welcomed their second child together on Friday (May 29).
Named Grayson Lee Bazyl Guess, the bundle of joy weighed in at 8 pounds, 14 ounces and measured 21 inches long. Proud papa Griffin explained, “In honor of such a cool thing, we gave him the second middle name Bazyl, which means Kingly. The veiled birth’s meaning is coined as ‘Kings by right,’ so we felt it was a perfect opportunity to make his name reflect a cool story like this. And yes, that is a dimple on that baby’s smiling face!”
Marisa told People magazine, “My son Grayson is healthy and such a sweet baby. I feel so blessed and excited to see both my boys grow up together. I felt very prepared for labor this time around. I was a little anxious as to when it would happen though.

A bunch of undead cops return to Earth to atone for past misdemeanours in this messy fantasy adventure
Like its comic-strip characters, caught in the purgatory between life and death, this wildly uneven fantasy adventure inhabits a misjudged limbo between the mainstream riffs of Men in Black and the rougher edges of Maniac Cop.
Ryan Reynolds is the only slightly crooked Boston cop, whisked to a netherworld owing more to A Life Less Ordinary than A Matter of Life and Death, with the office furniture of Brazil thrown in for good measure. To escape judgment, Reynolds opts to serve undead overtime with the titular team, returning to Earth with Jeff Bridges' old west sheriff, the odd-buddy couple taking on the avatars of James Hong and Marisa Miller respectively. And if you think there's nothing funny about the pairing of a short Asian guy and a tall underwear model, then R.I.P.D. is not for you.

Marisa Miller debuted her son, Gavin Lee Guess, during a San Francisco 49ers game at Candlestick Park over the weekend. This is the first time we've seen Marisa's little one since she and husband Griffin Guess welcomed him in December 2012. The Sports Illustrated model, who is also a lifelong 49ers fan, made sure to dress her baby boy in the team's signature colors and even slipped him into a tiny jersey. Marisa shared a cute snap of the two on the playing field, saying, "Gotta start young. He's the 4th generation of 49er fan in the family!" We caught up with Marisa earlier this Summer while she promoted her big-screen debut alongside Ryan Reynolds in Ripd. She opened about motherhood and gushed about her son, Gavin, telling us that "becoming a mom has been the best thing ever." Source: San Francisco 49ers...

Summer popcorn films offer the quality of enjoyable escapism, 90 minutes of getting lost in a not-too-serious film with a modicum of expectation. Though that may be the sentiment R.I.P.D. was aiming for, regrettably, besides a few laughs, the enjoyment is short-lived. The film attempts to be the haunted version of Men in Black, but ends up being a confusing mess of ideas.

Jeff Bridges and Ryan Reynolds star in R.I.P.D. But did it deserve more box office success than it got?
Nick (Ryan Reynolds) is a Boston cop with a bright future. He has a lovely wife, but there's not a lot of money involved in police work, so when his partner Hayes (Kevin Bacon) has a great idea to make off with some stolen gold found during an investigation, Nick doesn't listen to his conscience and takes the plate. However, pretty soon his better nature takes over, and he tells Hayes he wants to go straight. That's enough to trigger Hayes' worse nature, so he executes his partner during a big drug raid.
Fortunately, Nick has a special set of skills that makes him coveted by the Rest In Peace Department, or R.I.P.D.. They stop deados, bad souls who have refused to...

Mary-Louise Parker’s character in R.I.P.D. is probably the best written in the film, so it’s not surprising that she came aboard the project, especially when Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges were already attached. Parker chatted with us briefly recently at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Columbus Circle here in New York City.
DC: So, was it a little bit of a letdown being in an action movie and not really getting to be in an action scene and do some action, or was it kind of a relief to not work with those elements?
Mary-Louise Parker: Not really, um, because generally the action, the heavy action scenes, there’s a big reset afterwards so there’s like hours in between takes, you know what I mean? So, there’s a lot of sitting around, there’s a lot of technicalities and I prefer getting to interact with the other actors.

It's two leading ladies in the same sexy leather long-sleved mini!On Wednesday, "R.I.P.D" star Marisa Miller sported the cut-out Catherine Malandrino dress in cobalt blue to the Espy awards. The model/actress, who gave birth in December, is definitely not harboring any of that baby weight anymore! The blonde beauty looked great in the sheer number, wearing her hair straight and parted to the side, and finished her look with nude Christian Louboutin peep-toe pumps. But she's not the only actress to sport the revealing ensemble! In April of 2012, Jennifer Lopez wore the memorable look in black onstage at the "American Idol" top 7 live performance. J.Lo wore her hair straight in half up, half-down 'do and finished her look with black spikey Christian Louboutin heels. While both of the ladies look absolutely lovely in the Malandrino dress -- we have to give the nod to Marissa!

During a tightly packed press conference earlier this week, Ryan Reynolds (looking dapper and slightly bored) and Jeff Bridges (appearing relaxed and ever curious) delighted a crowd of journalists who were all probably a little more into the actors themselves than the movie they happened to be promoting - but that’s usually the case.
The proceedings were light-hearted with a few laughs as both actors seemed genuinely happy to be around each other again.
DC: Ryan, you’ve done a number comic book films now with Green Lantern, Blade: Trinity, X-Men: Origins, this one, hopefully Deadpool … Is there something about the genre that appeals to you? Do you find it more fun to act in films that aren’t necessarily grounded in reality? And Jeff, these are films that we don’t usually see you in. R.I.P.D. – yet another brainless summer blockbuster to provide theater-goers an hour and a half worth of sweet, sweet air-conditioned entertainment. In other words, it’s nothing but a flashy time-waster commissioned as a cash-grabbing distraction.
The good news is, Robert Schwentke’s film didn’t absolutely suck like I thought it would, given the lack of pre-screenings and sudden flooding of negative reviews. The bad news is, Men in Black 4 is still another mess of a “popcorn-popper,” filled with terrible CGI, cheesy scripting, and zero depth. It’s like if you bit into an M&M only to find they forgot to fill the delicious candy shell with chocolate. You still get the sugar rush – but with none of the substance. Wait, Men in Black 4? Sorry, I meant R.I.P.D. – although the titles are pretty interchangeable based on this undead buddy cop’s makeup.
So what is the R.I.P.D.? Well, as...

Based on the Dark Horse comic of the same name, R.I.P.D. is a spectacular wild and whimsical buddy-cop action/adventure that critics will excoriate but despite that, will likely find an audience. If the previews and trailers have reminded you of Men in Black, the movie will feel like a trip down memory lane. Directed by Robert Schwentke (Red, The Time Traveler's Wife), R.I.P.D combines elements of Mib with flavors of Beetlejuice, Ghost and hints of many other popular films.
The film plays as if it hopes that by being entirely derivative of hits it will likewise be a hit, and that's what sets off alarm bells in a critic's mind. But try as I might, every time I started to think "Here's where it starts to suck," the movie did something to make me laugh in spite of myself. That's quite an accomplishment for a writing...

R.I.P.D.
Directed by Robert Schwentke
Written by Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi
2013, USA
It’s said that Hollywood is always trying to make the thing which was a hit last year. In the case of R.I.P.D., it simply took Universal ten years to get the movie done. The project must have been pitched shortly after the release of Peter Lenkov’s 2001 comic book with the log line “Men in Black with ghosts instead of aliens”, but it spent some time in development hell and was finally released last weekend more out of pity than hope for success.
Ryan Reynolds plays a Boston police detective who dies in the line of duty after pulling something dishonest with partner Kevin Bacon. He’s offered a new lease on unlife by the titular Rest In Peace Department, hunting the restless dead (“deados”) with former Old West marshal Jeff Bridges. Exactly how or why...

Chicago – Did everyone see “Men in Black”? Or the film’s two sequels? They you saw “R.I.P.D.,” which unfortunately for the production team has “rip” in the title, because the film is a lazy rewrite and rip-off of “MiB.” Jeff Bridges and Ryan Reynolds are the protectors assigned in this one.

The pitch had to go something like this. Picture “Men in Black” except instead of aliens the heroes are chasing lost dead souls. And by-the-way, the heroes are also dead, instead of being men in black. No, the pitchmen weren’t thrown out of the studio office, they green-lighted this 130 million dollar exercise in unoriginality, based on a source comic book. There are ultra special effects here, as it’s poured on like so much syrup on pancakes. Enough of the product makes the dish better, too much makes it cloying. “R.I.P.D” has its moments...

Time for yet another big budget action flick based on a comic book series. This is not from the big two: DC (Man Of Steel) and Marvel (Iron Man 3). It’s from Dark Horse, the company that’s the home of big screen heroes like The Mask and Barb Wire among others. Oh, and did I tell you that this is another variation on the mis-matched law enforcement team best represented recently by the box office smash The Heat. Here it’s a wiseguy younger fella’ teamed up with a crotchety old-school veteran. Plus it’s set in a fantasy world right in the middle of that film’s backdrop, Boston. Of course the normal citizenry is blithely unaware of these fantastic events. Hmm, is this sounding similar to another movie franchise? Judge for yourself if you chose to enter the world of R.I.P.D. at your local multiplex.

Ryan Reynolds and Jimmy Fallon got involved in a bit of a wet-shirt contest on last night's Late Night With Jimmy Fallon. Ryan was there to promote R.I.P.D. and was game to play Jimmy's famous "Water War" - and we are certainly not complaining! Ryan has been making the rounds for his movie, which hits theaters today. His costar Marisa Miller talked about Ryan's "razor-sharp wit" and his chemistry on and off screen with Jeff Bridges when she stopped by Popsugar Live! yesterday. So, what do you think: is this the hottest splash fight ever? Then again, Jimmy did play water war with Robert Pattinson, too. To see the video, just read more.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, a sarcastic young cop is recruited into a secret police force tasked with rounding up otherworldly entities hiding in plain sight, but not before being partnered with a grizzled veteran loner to prevent a cataclysmic event that may bring about the end of the world that only they can stop – Men In Black was a great movie wasn’t it, you guys? R.I.P.D., on the other hand, is not a good movie at all. It’s unfortunate because despite my sarcasm it does have certain things almost going for it, but ultimately winds up as an embarrassing CGI-filled bore that is as unfunny as it is unimaginative.

Marisa Miller has opened up about her first film role in R.I.P.D.
The model-turned-actress appears with Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges in the supernatural comedy about a dead police force tracking evil spirits on earth.
Miller recently told E! News that it was "so exciting" to make her film debut opposite top Hollywood stars such as Bridges and Reynolds.
"[Ryan] is so funny, naturally. And that was so great about being on set with him," she declared.
The star went on to say: "Me working for the first time on set with Kevin Bacon, Jeff Bridges, Ryan Reynolds - I mean, this is an all-star cast so I thought I was gonna be really nervous and intimidated but having someone like Ryan make you laugh was just the best."
Miller also revealed that she performed some of her own stunts in the movie.

There's no doubt in my mind Universal gave up on R.I.P.D. as soon as they saw a first cut and were willing to only do the bare minimum to salvage what they could. The final product looks unfinished from the beginning as a giant blob of a man storms down a hallway, busts through a wall and chaos in the streets ensues. On top of this, many additional effects look unfinished and temporary, and while it's not as if effects would have saved the picture in any way, they are evidence of a production left floundering. The film underwent reshoots at the end of 2012 as I can only assume Universal decided it was best to spend a little extra money on story rather than effects and while I wouldn't say R.I.P.D. is an all-out disaster, it falls apart little-by-little before it settles on an ending we've seen countless times before.

Stars and athletes stepped out on the red carpet at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles for the biggest sport event of the year -- the 2013 Espy Awards! It's great to see athletes out of their uniforms and all dressed up for the red carpet. So who looked great?Marisa Miller made her red carpet return after giving birth to son Gavin last December. The supermodel little to the imagination in a sexy striped Catherine Malandrino dress that hugged her curves. 6'2" tennis player Maria Sharapova looked statuesque in J. Mendel, while Miss Alabama (and A.J. McCarron's girlfriend) Katherine Webb resembled a majorette in a marching band in her strapless sequined dress.Click on the "Launch Gallery" above to see all the red carpet arrivals, including Danica Patrick and Olympic gymnast Gabrielle Douglas. Gabby looked super cute in her Lbd, but we weren't impressed with teammate McKayla Maroney's mullet dress!

There's a reason why Marisa Miller is one of the world's A-list bathing suit models: She happens to look really, really good in a bathing suit (and pretty much everything else).
Marisa is about to jump from the pages of everyone's favorite annual issue of Sports Illustrated and on to the big screen in "R.I.P.D.," a sci-fi comedy in the vein of "Men in Black" in which she plays the real-world avatar of Jeff Bridges' rootin'-tootin' ghost cop. Yeah, it's not the best joke in the world, but are you going to turn down the opportunity to indulge in some Marisa Miller eye candy? No, you're not.

Even the dead can't catch a break. Newly deceased police officer Nick Walker (Ryan Reynolds) finds himself recruited by the otherworldly R.I.P.D., the Rest in Peace Department upon his demise. His new assignment: team up with the rowdy gunslinger Roy Pulsipher (Jeff Bridges) to help bring down the deviant souls who escaped the great beyond (or is that the great below?) and track down the man who slaughtered him.
The department uses the term "rest" loosely since our heroes are also tasked with saving the world when a portal to the world of the dead opens up, threatening life as we know it in R.I.P.D.
Hear stars Ryan Reynolds, Jeff Bridges and Marisa Miller talk about being recruited into the R.I.P.D. in this featurette beyond the cut!
