From the makers of The Viper’s Hex, Chocolate Strawberry Vanilla, and the producers of Skinamarink comes a new gory slice of retro horror, My Cherry Pie.
Fresh out of prison, Freddy (Sotiris Tzelios) hooks up with his partners in crime, Jack (Dylan Heath) and Green (Tim Jason Wicks). After a violent series of events, they are forced to flee the city and when their car breaks down, they find themselves stranded in the middle of “bum-fuck nowhere”. Befriended by a curious local, Edwin Crow (Glenn Maynard), who invites them back to the notorious old Pleasant Creek Hospital, where Crow dwells with shy young Cherry (Trudi Ranik). But there’s a shadowy, grotesque figure stalking the grounds, and soon enough the cocktail of illicit drugs and all that stranger danger will collide with wild and brutal results.

Black Forest Films, Mad Alice Productions and Nk-fx have released the official poster for the upcoming Australian slasher film My Cherry Pie. The poster comes courtesy of visionary artist Chris Barnes of Brutal Posters. My Cherry Pie is the latest film from Aussie filmmaking duo Addison Heath & Jasmine Jakupi who describes the film as “Chopper meets Friday The 13th Part V”.
On the day of his prison release, Freddy (Sotiris Tzelios) joins his right-hand men Jack (Dylan Heath) and Green (Tim Jason Wicks). Together they embark on a violent crime spree across Melbourne. When things go from bad to worse, the gang finds themselves on the run. After car troubles and a chance meeting with Edwin Crow (Glenn Maynard), they are offered a place to stay at the historical Pleasant Creek Hospital. It is here they meet the shy but friendly Cherry (Trudi Ranik). When day turns to night a...

Filmmaking pair Addison Heath and Jasmine Jakupi are set to unleash another blood-spattered adventure in the form of crime/horror mash-up My Cherry Pie.
Billed as Chopper meets Friday the 13th V, the film stars Sotiris Tzelios, Dylan Heath and Tim Jason Wicks as three Melbourne criminals whose car breaks down as they attempt to flee the city, leading to an encounter with the ominous Crow Family.
What begins as a seemingly well-intentioned invite from the leader of the family (Glenn Maynard) soon unravels as the trio realise they face an evil beyond anything they have encountered in the underworld.
My Cherry Pie was written by Heath, who is producing alongside Jakupi, and Dylan Heath with support from Black Forest Films.
The micro-budget film, which was shot across two weeks between Melbourne and Stawell last November, is the sixth film Heath and Jakupi have collaborated on.
It comes after they...

Celina Yuen and Matthew Victor Pastor.
If anyone can lay claim to the mantle of Australia’s most prolific indie filmmaker – and the fastest – it would be Matthew Victor Pastor.
The writer-director-producer has churned out no fewer than six films in the past 18 months, each of the the last four on a remarkable shooting schedule of 5-7 days.
“I grew up around weird and wonderful people in the 3174 postcode [Noble Park, 25km south-east of the Melbourne Cbd] and go between suburban Australia and high-rise Asian-Australian apartment living,” says Pastor, who was born in Melbourne in the year his mother emigrated from the Philippines.
“My crazy filmmaking comes from always being from two worlds, something I used to find discomfort in until I embraced it and turned it into art. Where I’m from I shouldn’t really be a filmmaker, or one who is as efficient as me.
“I wonder, had I tried to be a director from...

2017 has been, at least for me, a fantastic year for movies. There has been some great films in the cinema, on DVD and VOD and the film festivals we’ve covered have been jam-packed with quality movies. Which makes it Very hard to narrow down a list of the Top 10 of the year! Even moreso when it comes to Dtv releases…
So, with that being said, I’ve decided that this year I’d split my picks into two distinct lists – the ten best films I saw in cinemas, be it at the local multiplex or at film festivals; and the ten best direct-to-market titles of the year, be they DVD or VOD.
This list takes in All the direct to DVD, VOD premieres, etc., that never made it to cinemas, so many in fact (32 in the shortlist!) that there’s enough honorable mentions to do multiple top tens and...

A brand-new take on the Japanese Yakuza films of the 1960s, Mondo Yakuza is clearly inspired by the nihilistic work of Seijun Suzuki (Branded to Kill) in particular. The film tells the story of Ichiro Kataki (Shimada), a violent Yakuza gang member travels to Melbourne, Australia after his beloved sister Yuko is brutally murdered by a group of criminals. Hell bent on vengeance he teams up with Cassidy Arizona (Skye Medusa), a lady of the night with a vendetta of her own…
Seijun Suzuki’s prolific work in the yakuza genre was marked by a few things: his visual flair, the often avant-garde nature of his movies, sheer coolness… and actor Joe Shishido; who appeared in a number of Suzuki’s movies,...

After a civilian massacre in a foreign war zone, Navy Seal Rick Tyler (Dominic Purcell), is falsely imprisoned for the crime. But Rick is offered the chance of freedom – all he has to do is enter and survive a deadly game show, which pits him against some of the world’s most ruthless killers in a series of brutal locations. The rules are simple: kill or be killed. Can Rick survive the game, win his freedom and find out why he was framed for a crime he didn’t commit?

Director-writer Addison Heath is such a fan of classic Japanese gangster movies his next film is entitled Mondo Yakuza.
Due to start shooting in Melbourne in August, the micro-budgeted film will star Australian-born Kenji Shimada as Ichiro Kataki, a violent Yakuza gang member in Japan.
When his younger sister is murdered in Melbourne, he sets out to wreak vengeance on those responsible and teams up with Cassidy Arizona (Skye Korvin), a lady of the night who is on her own vendetta.
Glenn Maynard will play Ryan Beckett, a sadistic, mid-level criminal with a thirst for violent torture, whose days are numbered.
Shimada and Maynard appeared in Heath.s debut feature, Under a Kaleidoscope, which premiered at last year.s Monster Fest, where it was voted best Australian feature.
For the key support roles Addison is holding auditions in Melbourne on July 4. He describes it as .a violent action film which...

Addison Heath, writer of the recently released Chocolate Strawberry Vanilla, re-teams with some of the cast from that film – including Kristen Condon, Aston Elliot and a scene-stealing Glenn Maynard (as a crazy TV evangelist) – for his feature film directorial debut Under a Kaleidoscope, a film which is less of a traditional narrative tale and more a look at life through an LSD haze.
The crux of the film deals with Caleb Loomis (Shimada) an agoraphobic twenty-something who spends his days making UFO movies with cardboard props, eating baked beans, smoking weed and downing an unhealthy amount of LSD. One afternoon, after hearing his neighbour Beatrice (Condon) being being abused for the umpteenth time, he strikes up a friendship with her through a hole in the wall…

It’s been four years since Stuart Simpson hit my cinematic radar with El Monstro Del Mar a rockabilly meets monster movie that, despite its low budget nature, was a tremendously fun flick – plus it didn’t hurt that the cast were good on the eye! Since then I’ve been following Simpson on Facebook,Twitter – you know, the usual social media outlets – and in particular the progression of his next feature, Chocolate Strawberry Vanilla…
Awkward ice cream van driver Warren Thompson’s only respite from his drab existence comes in the form of gorgeous soapie star Katie George. Besotted with the young actress, Warren can’t help but imagine what life would be like with Katie at his side. After suffering another in a long...

Review by Scott Clark of Cinehouse
Stuart Simpson’s Chocolate Strawberry Vanilla is a strange but welcome kind of cathartic character study. Warren (Glenn Maynard) is an ice cream man, he lives alone with his cat and tunes in daily to his favourite soap opera. However, after an awful accident, Warren’s life begins to spiral out of control: he becomes dangerously obsessed with his favourite soap star, a local drug dealer starts muscling in on his patch, and his sanity begins to disintegrate alarmingly.
First things first, Glenn Maynard deserves an overwhelming amount of praise for his performance, considering the entire film rests on his laurels. Warren is a hop and a skip away from being a dull kind of caricatured loner, however...

All ice cream man.Twitch was pleased to present the Tom Hodge designed poster for El Monstro Del Mar director Stuart Simpson's latest cult opus Chocolate Strawberry Vanilla last week and now we're even more pleased to follow that up with a first look at the trailer for the film. Soon to premiere at Monster Fest in Australia, here's how the festival describes it:Stuart Simpson is a major Australian talent. His films defy genre and expectation. Chocolate Strawberry Vanilla is his best yet. A meticulously crafted journey into the fragile psychology of an ice-cream van driver, it is dramatic, black and hilarious.
