"Enchanted" alum Amy Adams (Giselle), Patrick Dempsey (Robert Philip), James Marsden (Prince Edward), and Idina Menzel (Nancy Tremaine) all return for the new film, which also features newcomer Gabby Baldacchino as Robert's daughter, Morgan Philip. Rachel Covey played the character in the original movie, so you may be wondering - why was she recast? Let's investigate.
Why Was Morgan Recast in Disney's "Disenchanted"?
According to the film's synopsis, "Disenchanted" takes place 15 years after the events of the original movie. Giselle and Robert are now married and decide to move from New York to the suburb of Monroeville with their teenage daughter, Morgan. Over the course of 15 years, Amy Adams’ zest for musical fairytales hasn’t faltered one bit. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for all of her co-stars. “Disenchanted,” the sequel to Disney’s beloved “Enchanted,” lands on Disney+ over a decade after the original first charmed audiences.
But hey, it’s still half the time it took for “Hocus Pocus 2” to be made. Whatever is in the water over at the Walt Disney Company, both casts have barely changed, and it feels like no time has passed on the magical ticking clock of aging. But was it worth the wait?
Adams gives it her wide-eyed all in “Disenchanted,” reprising her role of Andalasian princess Giselle, who stumbled into Manhattan through a botched portal and fell for divorce attorney and single father Robert (Patrick Dempsey) all those years ago. The sequel, also starring returning scene-stealers James Mardsen and Idina Menzel,...

In Disenchanted, fifteen years after happily ever after, our favorite princess Giselle (Amy Adams) and her beloved prince Robert (Patrick Dempsey) leave the fairy tale kingdom of Manhattan to move to the fairy tale suburbs of Monroeville. Joining them is Giselle’s stepdaughter Morgan. Disney+ shared the official trailer for the sequel at the D23 expo on September 9. The trailer opens with Giselle explaining to her pigeon and rat friends that “I know that change can be scary, but it can also be exciting.” The happy family goes off to start their new life in Monroeville, and upon seeing their new home, Giselle explains, “It’s all part of the adventure.” Her stepdaughter replies, “That’s not an adventure, that’s a landfill.” “A land filled with adventure!” Giselle, ever positive, quips back. They seriously need some help from Chip and Joanna Gaines. They’re welcomed to their new humble...

The Anaheim Convention Center melted into the magical land of Andalasia on Friday, when the first teaser for “Disenchanted” — the long-awaited sequel to Kevin Lima’s 2007 fantasy musical “Enchanted” — debuted to press and fans attending the annual convention D23 in Southern California.
Set 15 years after the events of the first film, “Disenchanted” sees six-time Oscar nominee Amy Adams reprise her role as Giselle: a sing-songy, whimsical, animal-loving princess who gives up her fantastical life to marry a cynical New York divorce attorney named Robert, played by the ever-dashing Patrick Dempsey. James Marsden, who plays Giselle’s former prince charming Edward, and Idina Menzel, who plays Robert’s ex-turned-fairy princess Nancy, also reprise their roles. “Disenchanted” is directed by Adam Shankman, known for the 2007 “Hairspray” remake.

“Enchanted” will always be known as the movie that introduced most of the world to Amy Adams, whisking her from the darling of indie films like “Drop Dead Gorgeous” and “Junebug” to one of Hollywood’s most in-demand actors.
But a large part of the reason audiences fell in love with Amy Adams is because they fell under the spell of “Enchanted” as a whole. In director Kevin Lima and writer Bill Kelly’s 2007 film, Adams plays Giselle, a maiden of the mythical Andalasia who sings to forest critters and dreams of falling in love. She finds what she’s looking for in Prince Edward (James Marsden), but before they can go live happily ever after, his nefarious mother Queen Narissa (Susan Sarandon) sends her flying through a portal to New York City. There, Giselle crosses paths with cynical divorce lawyer Robert (Patrick Dempsey) and his daughter Morgan (Rachel Covey). Soon,...

Amy Adams during an appearance today on The Talk gave a brief update on the status of Disenchanted, Disney’s long-in-the-works sequel to its Adams-starring 2007 hit about Giselle, the singing animated Disney princess who crosses over into the real world.
“I am absolutely up for that,” Adams said when asked by co-host Sara Gilbert about reprising her role in a sequel. “We’re working on it — so hopefully.”
There has been no recent movement on the project at Disney — the sequel is currently in development with Adam Shankman attached to direct. But Enchanted 2 was in the works as far back as 2014, when Anne Fletcher was aboard to helm a script written by J. David Stem and David N. Weiss from an earlier draft by Jessie Nelson. Barry Josephson and Barry Sonnenfeld are back as producers.
Aside from Adams, who since Enchanted scored four of her five Oscar nominations, the original pic co-starred Patrick Dempsey,...

An update on the status of an Enchanted sequel has arisen from the depths of the film’s development from the film’s director, Adam Shankman, revealing that the project is finally moving along.
The follow-up, which has been in development since 2010, will be titled Disenchanted and will follow Giselle – which sees Amy Adams reprise her role – 10 years after the original. Set in New York, Giselle may be rethinking her love of the real world.
Whilst on the Television Critics panel for Step Up: High Water, the YouTube Red series he is producing based on the Step Up films, Shankman divulged the information of where the production stands at this point and what we can expect to see if the final script is greenlit.
“We are handing in a script in a couple weeks that I’m super happy with,” Shankman said, “Then gotta get the music written.

Ever, ever after seems like such a long, long time ago. Believe it or not, it's been nine years since Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures' Enchanted hit theaters. In the musical, Princess Giselle (Amy Adams) was tricked into leaving her animated world of Andalasia and entering the live-action world of New York City. Though Prince Edward (James Marsden) tried to find his bride-to-be, Giselle didn't discover true love's kiss until Robert (Patrick Dempsey), a divorce attorney and single father, came into the picture. (Robert can thank his daughter, played by Rachel Covey, for playing cupid.) In the end, Giselle and Robert managed to take down the evil Queen Narissa (Susan Sarandon) and build a life...

Paramount Pictures is moving forward with their plans for a third G.I. Joe movie, and they've hired Jonathan Lemkin to write the script. According to Variety, the story will focus on Dwayne Johnson's character, Roadblock, who was introduced in G.I. Joe: Retaliation. Lemkin has previously worked on films such as Shooter with Mark Wahlberg, Devil's Advocate with Keanu Reeves, and Lethal Weapon 4. The studio is hoping to get the sequel into production in 2015 for a 2016 release. As big of a fan I am of the G.I. Joe franchise, the live-action movies that have been made sure have been a big letdown. This is one franchise I wouldn't mind seeing rebooted.
In other news, Disney has decided to dust off their plans for an Enchanted sequel and move it into development. The studio has hired J. David Stem and David N. Weiss to take on the duties of writing the screenplay.

It's been seven years since Amy Adams first portrayed princess Giselle in Enchanted. Now Disney is finally going to work on that sequel we've all been waiting for. The studio has hired writing duo David Stem and David N. Weiss (Smurfs 2, Shrek 2, Daddy Day Camp) to pen the script to the overdue followup.
Anne Fletcher (The Guilt Trip, The Proposal) is set to direct the sequel. However, there's no word on whether Adams will reprise her role as Princess Giselle. As a matter of fact, we don't know if any of the original cast members – which include Patrick Dempsey, James Marsden, Timothy Spall, Idina Menzel, Rachel Covey, and Susan Sarandon – will return.
In 2007, Enchanted's worldwide gross was more than $340 million. The movie earned numerous Oscar nominations and Golden Globe nominations.
Enchanted 2 is being produced by Barry Josephson and Barry Sonnenfeld. Jessie Nelson wrote an early draft of the script.
