"You've got your life, I've got mine." Samuel Goldwyn Films has unveiled a new Us official trailer for the emotional romantic drama Dirt Music from Australia, the latest film from filmmaker Gregor Jordan. It's scheduled for Us release on VOD in July. Adapted from the novel by Tim Winton, the stunning landscape of Western Australia is the backdrop for an impassioned tale of love and grief. Talented actress Kelly MacDonald stars as Georgie, who is stuck in an unhappy relationship with a local fisherman. She goes off on a journey of self-discovery and meets a former musician named Lu Fox, played by Garret Hedlund. This also stars David Wenham, Aaron Pedersen, Dan Wyllie, Chris Haywood, and Ava Caryofyllis. I'm not sure if it's just the trailers or what, but this looks like such a damn good, impassioned, beautiful film about listening to your heart. A must watch trailer. Here's the...

It’s no secret that while these fair British Isles basically invented acting and movie-making, another country out there has a particular knack of making some tremendously emotional and jarringly real films and TV shows… Australia I am looking directly at you!
For years now I have championed some of the titles that come out of Australia (especially on the indie scene) the wealth of talent in front of and behind the camera is incredible. Look no further than TV shows like Underbelly or Wentworth; movies like Two Hands, Babadook, Chopper, Wolf Creek, Ned Kelly or Animal Kingdom to name a few.
Now I get to add West of Sunshine to my list of Aussie movies that more than deserve your attention.
I am a sucker for a movie...

The admirable ambition to frame the film with all the iconoclastic, outlaw verve of its rogue antihero is both the making and the unmaking of “Sew the Winter to my Skin,” the proto-Western sophomore feature from rising South African powerhouse Jahmil X.T. Qubeka. As shown in his well-received noir-indebted debut “Of Good Report,” Qubeka has filmmaking energy to burn, but this time it sparks and flares over much broadened horizons — often literally, in the form of returning Dp Jonathan Kovel’s striking landscape photography, featuring vistas so huge they have visibly different weather on one side than the other.
But the narrative enlargement is less successful: While the project of infusing a local legend with grandly cinematic, mythic status is a worthy one, the film can’t quite get out of its own way, and the result is incoherently at odds with itself, with two outsized personalities — the hero John...

Aaron Glenane in ‘Danger Close: The Battle of Long Tan.’
Aaron Glenane is honoured to be among the 10 finalists for this year’s Heath Ledger Scholarship, which will be announced by Australians in Film (AiF) on Friday local time.
“It’s very moving to have the support of AiF and the industry behind you,” the actor tells If from the Toronto set of his current production. “That says, ‘You’re doing all right, keep going.’”
The fellow finalists for the $US30,000 Scholarship are Harvey Zielinski, Shalom Brune-Franklin, Ezekiel Simat, Gemma Bird Matheson, Kipan Rothbury, Brenna Harding, Bethany Whitmore, Charmaine Bingwa and Nicholas Denton.
Arguably Glenane is doing rather better than all right after scoring roles this year in his current project, Kriv Stenders’ Danger Close: The Battle of Long Tan, Rachel Griffiths’ Ride Like a Girl and Drunk History, Eureka Productions’ half-hour comedy which screened during Network Ten’s Pilot Week.
