MEXICO CITY -- HBO Latin America is set to begin production on "Capadocia", its first scripted TV series in Mexico.
The first season, consisting of 13 episodes, will be filmed entirely in Mexico, HBO Latin America said Thursday. Filming begins Saturday.
Mexican independent producer Argos is co-producing the series, which depicts women struggling to survive in a Mexico City prison.
Javier Patron ("Beyond the Sky"), Carlos Carrera ("The Crime of Father Amaro") and music video helmer Pedro Pablo Ibarra will direct episodes of "Capadocia".
Actors attached to the project include Ana de la Reguera ("Nacho Libre"), Dolores Heredia ("Vantage Point") and Cecilia Suarez ("The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada").
"Capadocia" is HBO's fourth fictional TV series produced in Latin America, following Argentina's "Epitafios" and Brazil's "Mandrake" and "Hijos del Carnaval", both of which received International Emmy nominations last year.
Executive producer Luis Peraza said HBO Latin America has been developing the program for three years.
