Ok, seriously, is there anything the Stranger Things boys can't do?! The Netflix show's famous foursome - Gaten Matarazzo, Noah Schnapp, Finn Wolfhard, and Caleb McLaughlin - just teamed up with James Corden to show off their singing chops on The Late Late Show - and, honestly, we're pretty blown away by their talent. James and the boys first gave us a hilarious glimpse at how their singing group, The Upside Downs, came to be before taking the stage together for a chills-worthy, in-studio performance. Together, they belted out a series of Motown classics, starting with the Jackson 5's "I Want You Back" and ending with The Four Tops' "Reach Out I'll Be There." On a scale of one to 10, their medley is definitely an Eleven. Watch the entire video above, and we can guarantee it'll make you love the Stranger Things kids even more than you did after finishing season two.

On a scale from one to ten, we’re giving this Motown medley an Eleven.
James Corden on Wednesday ditched the carpool lane for an in-studio performance with the cast of Stranger Things, forming late-night’s funkiest supergroup The Upside-Downs. The Late Late Show host was joined by TVLine’s Performer of the Week Gaten Matarazzo, Finn Wolfhard, Caleb McLaughlin and Noah Schnapp on a crowd-pleasing selection of R&B classics, including Jackson 5’s “I Want You Back,” The Temptations’ “My Girl” and The Four Tops’ “Reach Out I’ll Be There.”

The Hawkins Five! Turns out the child stars of Stranger Things – Finn Wolfhard, Caleb McLaughlin, Gaten Matarazzo, and Noah Schnapp – have a musical past… well, sort of.
On Wednesday’s The Late Late Show, host James Corden revealed that he was once in a Motown cover band with the Netflix stars.
“People thought it was weird that James hung out with us because he was an adult, but we actually went to school with him. He was held back a couple of years, but we’re in the same grade,” Wolfhard jokingly explained during the clip.
“The boys and I, we have so much in common. We love playing video games, we all like taking naps, most importantly, we all love Motown,” Corden said. “We sold out a retirement home for old folks and we killed. We killed, literally.”

I spent all week trying to scheme for some angle to not have to see Mortdecai. Maybe this would be a good week to go see a couple Oscar contenders that we missed, maybe our readers would rather hear about The Boy Next Door and see if there’s any chance of a J. Lo comeback, anything to keep me from having to write about a movie that looked to be Johnny Depp doing his best to murder his career on the same hill Mike Meyers went to for The Love Guru. Finally, late on Friday, I came up with a counterpitch that stuck: I should go see Strange Magic because it’s a George Lucas film (or at least a George Lucas story credit) and ComicMix readers probably have a strong opinion one way or the other on the man who launched and arguably sank two of the biggest geek franchises of all time.

You might not know who Gary Rydstrom is, but you've certainly heard him before. This is a man whose pioneering sound work has won him seven (!) Academy Awards and brought to life groundbreaking technological advancements like the first film presented in DTS sound ("Jurassic Park") and re-crafting sound mixes in 5.1 surround (after his breakthrough work on "Terminator 2: Judgment Day," he and James Cameron created a new multi-channel mix for the original "Terminator"). He's also directed a pair of Pixar short films ("Lifted" and "Hawaiian Vacation") and overseen the English language dubs of four Studio Ghibli movies ("Tales from Earthsea," "From Up on Poppy Hill," "Arrietty," and last year's Oscar-nominated masterpiece "The Wind Rises"). In short: he's kind of the coolest dude around.
And this weekend he adds another accomplishment to his already unfathomably long list, when his debut feature film "Strange Magic" debuts in theaters nationwide. This bizarre, George Lucas-produced animated fairy tale,...

Within the past week, two former gay students of mine texted to relate their agony at not having boyfriends and the inability to see any in their futures. All the potential Romeos they meet are just interested in one-night stands or are on the down-low. No love on balconies.
“You both have just encountered the Walking, Raging, Testosterone-Filled Humanoids -- or Men. Run!!!!” I thought.
Of course, when I was their age, during the Sexual Revolution, copulation always seemed to come first and possible relationships occasionally built upon those chance encounters. Nowadays, the young Lgbt crowd has the option of gay groups and courses on campus, the Gay Community Center, and, of course, NewFest at Lincoln Center, which annually brims over with documentaries and narratives showcasing the ins and outs of same-sex intimacies. What safer way is there to learn about life and meet a mate while purchasing popcorn? “Take that,...

Every movie has to have its signature song and that certainly goes for the action-oriented males in film that are fortunate to have these finger-snapping tunes represent them on the big screen. The movie theme song indulges the audience and delivers a whole new kind of intrigue and feeling that we invest in the roguish ruffians on the big screen that some men would like to emulate and the ladies would love to cozy up to intimately.
There are music selections that do bring to mind the euphoria of the male action-packed characters we regard highly despite their moral compass. Maybe one can get excitable when hearing Black Sabbath’s “Iron Man” tune for the Marvel Comics superhero of the same name? Perhaps any of the musical themes for the countless James Bond films tickle your fancy? (there are two included in this article incidentally). Your preference might be in...

Zombies, vampires and werewolves, oh my! Classic monsters are always a good way for horror filmmakers to go, but sometimes we see more... unique... beasties on the screen. And when they go well (and even when they don't), they're some of the most memorable characters in the genre.

Detroit — More than 40 years have passed since the recording of Marvin Gaye's "Save the Children," but a replay of the song in the studio where it was recorded compressed time and brought tears to the eyes of Louvain Demps.
Demps was no mere fan visiting what's now the Motown Historical Museum. She was one of the women singing the angelic, high harmonies on the recording – and hearing it in Hitsville USA's Studio A was too much.
"It's my heart, it's my heart," she said.
For Demps and her fellow Andantes, Jackie Hicks and Marlene Barrow-Tate, moments like these have been private, since the wider world knew only their voices, not their faces. But now in their 70s, the unsung backing group who sang on thousands of Motown songs is finally getting acclaim for its contributions to the groundbreaking, chart-topping music made in Detroit in the 1960s and early `70s...

At the beginning of American Idol’s results night, Jimmy Iovine did not mince words when predicting who he believed should go home: Florida ice-cream scooper Lazaro Arbos. After several weeks of Arbos continually flubbing lyrics and wilting under the Idol lights, who could argue with Iovine? After all, it was Arbos who struggled the most in the show’s failed group number of The Four Tops’ "I Can’t Help Myself" with Burnell Taylor and Devin Velez. The act was so bad, Iovine gave them a fitting name for their group: "Wrong Direction." Iovine also directly addressed Nicki Minaj’s criticism

This week's "Idol" results are in and Devin Velez is going home.
He sang Perry Como's "It's Impossible" in both English and Spanish, bringing Mariah Carey to tears. Carey, Randy Jackson and Keith Urban were on their feet. However, the judges decided not to keep Devin around, despite the audience chanting, "Save! Save! Save!"
Unsurprisingly, the three remaining men -- Velez, Lazaro Arbos and Burnell Taylor -- wound up in the Bottom 3. After Wednesday night's Detroit-themed performances, many believed the trio of guys would wind up in the bottom. The judges, Nicki Minaj in particular, annihilated their take on The Four Tops "Can't Help Myself." Angie Miller also fell slightly out of the judges' favor with her solo performance of guest mentor Smokey Robinson's "Shop Around."
Kree Harrison was the first contestant to be safe, followed by Candice Glover, Janelle Arthur and Angie Miller.

It's Detroit night on "American Idol," which is a great theme. However, so was the Beatles and we all know how that turned out. It's interesting that it's not limited to Motown -- so should we expect some Kid Rock and Eminem, then?
Smokey Robinson is the mentor this week. He's fantastic, though dude needs to lay off the nips and tucks. Also, Smokey always takes us back to this nightmare fuel from our childhood. Totally scared the crap out of us.
1. Candice Glover, "Heard it Through the Grapevine," Marvin Gaye
She's putting a bluesy spin on a very iconic Motown song, so hopefully it works. The opening few bars are fantastic -- the saxophone and her big, throaty voice. Then when the tempo kicks up, it's just very .... cool. Just smooth and hep cat and sexy, we love the way she effortlessly goes up into her upper register at moments.

Tune in to Et tonight for the broadcast debut of Michael Jackson's nephew Austin Brown's brand new music video Menage A Trois!

Motown Records founder Berry Gordy is reportedly investing $100 million into a Broadway musical of his life.
The 81-year-old music mogul - the creator of the legendary music label, widely regarded as the home of soul music - is developing the production to tell the true story on the inception and running of the label, which had 110 top 10 hits in the Us between 1961 and 1971.
Berry is believed to be working with former Universal Music CEO Doug Morris and "Rent" producer Kevin McCollum on the autobiographical story, which will be set against a backdrop of the 60s civil rights movement in America.
A source told the New York Post newspaper, "Berry's been wanting to do this for a long time. He's got the money and investors lined up."

The American Idol Top 5 are singing two songs tonight, culled from the completely clear and specific theme of ”Now & Then,” with “Now” being music from, um, “now,” and “Then” being music from the 1960s. I do not envy the contestants their task in choosing songs from such a wide-open field of possibilities, especially now that they pretty much need to pull out a show-stopper every time in their ever-narrowing march to the Nokia Theatre. And speaking of “now,” now is the time for contestants like Lauren to blow us out of the water, and contestants like James to continue his momentum by making surprising choices.

First linked to the role back in May, Steve Carell is now officially set to star in and produce the narrative feature remake of 2008 music documentary "Of All the Things" at Warner Bros. Pictures reports Variety.
The original documentary centred on songwriter-producer Dennis Lambert, one of the top songwriters of pop music from the late 60's to the mid 80's, working with such famous bands as The Four Tops and The Commodores.
In 1972 his attempt to become a recording artist flopped as his debut album "Bags and Things" was virtually ignored upon release. Yet there was a twist - a single from the album, "Of All the Things", became a massive hit in the Philippines and is still played at Filipino weddings to this day.
Lambert was always asked to perform there but he declined until 2007 where he played five dates and managed to sell out a Valentine's Day concert at Araneta Coliseum.
The original documentary centred on songwriter-producer Dennis Lambert, one of the top songwriters of pop music from the late 60's to the mid 80's, working with such famous bands as The Four Tops and The Commodores.

American Idol has entered the MySpace era (aka 2006), and is tapping into the powerful musical legacies of Toni Basil, Billy Ray Cyrus, and the Crash Test Dummies. Nope, I’m not pulling your leg. For the first time in its ten-season history, Fox’s behemoth of a singing competition is giving contestants the chance to audition online at myspace.com/americanidol from now through Oct. 6. Hopefuls between the ages of 15 and 28 (as of July 15, 2010) can submit 40-second videos in which they belt out one of 90 pre-approved tracks (listed below). Idol producers will then invite a select number of online auditioners...

Perhaps I'm wrong in this assumption, but I've always felt that Joel and Ethan Coen's debut film, Blood Simple (1984), has a tendency to fall under the shadow of their later neo-noir accomplishments, most notably Fargo (1996) and No Country for Old Men (2007). While the film has popped back up into popular consciousness during the past decade thanks to the theatrical release of a Director's Cut (one that was shockingly shorter and leaner than the original theatrical version...make a note Judd Apatow) and Zhang Yimou's incredibly loose remake A Woman, a Gun and a Noodle Shop (2009, unreleased in the Us), it still feels neglected, stranded somewhere in the mid-1980s. This feeling of neglect struck me when teaching American Film History in fall 2009 to a class of undergraduates. My traditional discussion icebreaker (which consists of asking the student for their name, major, and favorite film) yielded many students to throw...

Craig David taped a sexy music video for the second single of his latest album "Signed Sealed Delivered", getting naked with a woman in the shower and showing her naked body in silhouette. The new music video is made in support of the single "All Alone Tonight (Stop, Look, Listen)".
"Signed Sealed Delivered" which was dropped in U.K. in March is basically a cover album because the only original song is the last track called "This Could Be Love". Like "All Alone Tonight" which obviously sampled Diana Ross and Marvin Gaye's "Stop, Look, Listen (to Your Heart)", other singles are covers of the Motown era.
The first single was "One More Lie (Standing in the Shadows)" which sampled The Four Tops' 1967 classic "Standing in the Shadows of Love". The record is the first that David made after signing with Universal Records.

Songs by The Temptations, Goffin-King/Dusty Springfield, Curtis Mayfield, The Ronettes, Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, The Supremes and Kim Weston are also included. Below is a complete tracklist. What should the "American Idol" Top 10 sing for the R&B/Soul week? Make your picks here.
Even though Usher kinda spilled the "Idol" mentoring beans over the weekend, it was officially announced during the Wednesday, March 24 results show that he would be mentoring the Top 10 for R&B/Soul week.
We love that R&B/Soul reaches way back into Motown because some of the non-Michael Lynche singers need some oldies thrown in there.
The song list is available here, but here is the whole list:

Craig David is going to the club in a music video for his new single "One More Lie (Standing in the Shadows)", moving his body among the clubbers. Wearing a black hoodie, he is also seen walking on the wet street of Miami.
"One More Lie" is sampling The Four Tops' 1966 hit "Standing in the Shadows of Love". It will be released in March as the first single from Craig's upcoming fifth studio album which is titled "Signed Sealed Delivered".
A follow-up to Craig's 2007 effort "Trust Me", "Signed Sealed Delivered" reportedly will hit the stores across U.S. weeks after its lead single is released. This will be his first project under Universal Records. Details about the album are still under wraps, but he has recorded a demo of Stevie Wonder's "Signed, Sealed, Delivered, I'm Yours".

Chicago – The legendary Richard Curtis returns this week with “Pirate Radio,” the story of Radio Rock and the first disc jockeys to ever play rock and roll in the United Kingdom. Co-starring Philip Seymour Hoffman, Bill Nighy, Nick Frost, Kenneth Branagh, Tom Sturridge, and many more, “Pirate Radio” is another ensemble comedy from the man who made the beloved “Love Actually” and wrote “Four Weddings and a Funeral,” “Notting Hill,” and created “Black Adder”. Curtis recently sat down with HollywoodChicago.com (and Matt Fagerholm of Film Monthly and Locke Peterseim of RedBlog) to discuss his new film and its inspirations.
Naturally, if a writer is going to make a film about the power of rock music, he probably has a pretty close kinship to the tunes of the era himself. Curtis vividly remembers tuning into Radio Rock on his transistor, a moment copied for the very first shot of “Pirate Radio...

Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame Live DVD - Review
One of the things that hits you about the midway point when watching this set is that this has to be one of the greatest live “Best Of” compilations ever put to DVD. The luminaries of rock and roll that appear within this presentation is enough to make it a worthwhile purchase for yourself but certainly is something that ought to be considered a solid gift for anyone who appreciates a wide spectrum of music.
