Netflix has unveiled the official trailer for a South African BMX dramatic thriller titled Riding with Sugar, made by the director of Pride previously - Sunu Gonera. As painful memories spin in his head, a young refugee pedals toward a new future under a charitable mentor when fate challenges his BMX racing hopes. The film stars Charles Mnene as a boy named Joshua, who loves to ride his BMX bike. Also starring Hakeem Kae-Kazim, Simona Brown, Hlayani Junior Mabasa, and Paballo Koza. A coming-of-age, feel-good story about a young refugee's quest for BMX glory and the pursuit of identity, safety, happiness and love. This looks awesome! Exclusive: Netflix has found its Young Wallander – the Svod service has cast Swedish actor Adam Pålsson in the role alongside Argo’s Richard Dillane and Black Mirror’s Leanne Best.
Pålsson, who starred in Svt drama Don’t Ever Wipe Tears Without Gloves as well as The Bridge, takes on the role previously played by Kenneth Branagh in the adaptation of Henning Mankell’s novels.
The six-part series, which has just started filming, tells the story of detective Kurt Wallander’s first case and is produced by Banijay-backed Yellow Bird UK. The story focuses on the formative experiences – professional and personal – faced by Wallander as a recently graduated police officer in his early twenties. It launches on Netflix in 2020.

- For the fifth year Screen International has put out their annual list of the next big things in UK Cinema. The UK Stars of Tomorrow is considered a major launching pad for fresh talent both in front and behind the camera. Past honorees include the wanted James McAvoy, the irresistible Emily Blunt, and the prince himself Ben Barnes. LONDON -- Alastair Mackenzie, James Pearson and Charles Mnene have joined Dougray Scott in the cast of writer-director Richard Jobson's Scottish-set thriller New Town Killers.
Mackenzie (The Edge Of Love), Pearson (Control) and Mnene (Chromophobia) appear alongside Scott in the tale of two high-flying financial whiz kids who get their kicks hunting people on the margins of society.
Jobson, whose directorial debut, 16 Years of Alcohol, garnered plaudits on the international film festival circuit, has begun shooting in Edinburgh. He is producing with Luc Roeg of Independent.
Executive producers are Michael Robinson and Andrew Orr of Independent, Paul Martin and his banner Str8jacket Creations, Carole Sheridan at Scottish Screen and Sheryl Crown at government-backed agency Screen East
The film is backed by Independent, Str8jacket Creations, Scottish Screen and the Screen East Content Investment Fund in association with LipSync and the Glasgow Film Office.
Independent is handling worldwide sales.
