COLOGNE, Germany -- German media executive Hans Mahr is returning to broadcasting giant RTL Group where he will head up the company's sports-rights business as well as overseeing RTL's expansion into Eastern Europe.
Mahr left RTL just two years ago, where he was executive coordinator of group synergies and deputy managing director of the company flagship, RTL Television. He is credited with helping secure RTL a broadcasting license in Croatia, one of the group's first beachheads in Central and Eastern Europe.
Mahr had a brief term as head of sports and new business at German pay TV group Premiere but was fired after just six months. Premiere CEO Georg Kofler evidently blamed Mahr for Premiere losing the rights to Germany's Bundesliga soccer to pay TV upstart Arena.
In March, Mahr set up his own media consulting firm, Mahr Media, which has Formula One racing star Ralf Schumacher as one of its clients.
RTL confirmed that Mahr will be returning to the company but declined to give further details.
