Since her debut at the world’s most prestigious fashion event in 2011, Chrissy Teigen has partied the night away at several Met Galas. Many fans expected to see her grace the famous carpet in a boundary-pushing outfit. However, the 38-year-old model took to her Instagram stories on the day of the Met Gala to explain her absence. Wearing a neck brace, Teigen said she injured herself but later walked her statement back, clarifying that she was “never going to the Met this year.”

[Warning: The below contains major spoilers for Project Runway All-Stars season finale.] Redemption was on the mind of designers taking part in Project Runway’s first-ever All-Stars season, which featured contestants from previous seasons of the Bravo show. During the milestone Season 20 finale, which aired Thursday, September 7, it came down to Bishme Cromartie, Brittany Allen, and Laurence Basse. For the last challenge, the final three were tasked with creating eight looks in eight days that really told the story of who they are in the fashion world. Along with mentor Christian Siriano, they had to impress judges Nina Garcia, Brandon Maxwell, and Elaine Welteroth, plus designer Zac Posen and Billy Porter, the Pose star who is no stranger to any runway. As the show reached its climax, Bishme was named winner. The self-taught designer from season 17 earned $250,000, a mentorship with the Cfda (Council of Fashion Designers of America), a feature in Elle magazine, and six months of...

It all came down to this. “Project Runway” season 20 ended on Thursday night, September 7, by deciding which returning All-Star contestant would take home the grand prize. For the first time, the final challenge was a race against time: the three remaining designers had to create their eight-look collections in just eight days — so you could think of this like eight one-day challenges all in a row. No rest for the weary. Helping to decide the winner were guest judges Zac Posen and Billy Porter. Two-thirds of ‘Project Runway’ fans agreed with the decision to send Prajje Oscar Jean Baptiste home
Prajje Oscar Jean Baptiste was eliminated from “Project Runway” last week in the flamboyant menswear challenge “Let Me See Your Peacock!” Were the judges right to send him home? About two-thirds of the “Runway” fans we polled after the episode (66.81%) agreed that it was his time to go. Scroll down to see our complete poll results at the bottom of this post.
The challenge in “Let Me See Your Peacock!” was to create men’s red carpet looks that made extravagant fashion statements. Jean Baptiste was eliminated for a look that judge Brandon Maxwell compared to a nutcracker going to a gay club, while Nina Garcia positively hated the copper-colored sheer turtleneck underneath.

But this wasn’t Jean Baptiste’s first struggle this season. On the contrary, this was the fifth week in a row that he got a low score from the judges.

Laurence Basse was originally a contestant in the 15th season of “Project Runway.” She reached the finale episode but ultimately finished in third place behind ultimate winner Erin Robertson after the finalists showed their collections. We’ve assembled all of her looks above and ranked them from worst to best. Do you agree with how we (and the judges) assessed her work?

Laurence Basse competed in the 15th season of “Project Runway” where she made it to the finale but finished in third place behind ultimate winner Erin Robertson. But it looked like her journey might come to a screeching halt the very next week in “Toying with Fashion.” That was the unconventional materials challenge in which she had to create a playful look using toys gathered from Fao Schwarz.

By the end of his run on “Project Runway” season 20, Fabio Costa had been yanked back and forth by the judges, getting one critique from them for two weeks straight and then being told the opposite on his way out the door. Anyone in his position might have been confused. Perhaps that’s why only 29.59% of the fans we polled thought he deserved to be eliminated in “Fashion, Inside Out.” That means more than 70% thought he should have stayed in the competition. Scroll down for our complete poll results.
In “Seeing Red” and “Like Totally ’90s,” Costa was told by judge Nina Garcia that his designs were too quiet and safe. So he pumped up the volume for “Inside Out,” in which designers had to create looks that highlighted couture undergarments … and was told he needed to edit himself down. Specifically, fabric hanging from his model’s midsection obscured the whole look.

“Project Runway” season 20 is halfway over and the competition is down to its top eight. So who’s going home next in tonight’s denim-centered episode “Uncut Hems”?
Last week only a handful of “Runway” fans who made their predictions here in our predictions center correctly bet that Fabio Costa would be sent home in “Fashion, Inside Out,” but more of us probably should have seen it coming. Costa had struggled the two weeks prior. He got low scores in “Seeing Red” and “Like Totally ’90s,” both times with looks that Nina Garcia deemed too subtle, quiet, and safe. Costa seemed confused by that description of his work, so he was thrown off in “Inside Out.” He made an effort to pump up the volume on his design this time, only to be told that he needed to edit this one down. Sometimes you just can’t win.

What does it take to win a design challenge on “Project Runway”? That’s the question the designers face every week on the fashion competition series where one day you’re in and the next day you’re out. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so the judges’ tastes and expectations can be a moving target. But there are a few generally consistent ways you can impress the panel: be original and forward-thinking, be modern, demonstrate a clear and consistent artistic vision, and for the love of God don’t be boring. All things being equal, it’s better to be ambitious than to play it safe. Scroll down to see who met those high standards and won their challenges every week in season 20, which was a special “All-Stars” edition of the series.

The only thing more ruffled than Anna Yinan Zhou‘s look on this week’s episode of Project Runway were the feathers of her fellow designers.
Thursday’s challenge required the 11 remaining contestants to craft ensembles that conveyed their unique points of view. The catch? They all had to use 15 yards of the same red fabric, resulting in “a lot of very similar looks,” according to judge Nina Garcia, who was also disappointed by how many minimalist designs and simple draped looks she spotted on the runway.

In fashion, one day you’re in and the next you’re out. That’s the guiding principle of “Project Runway,” now in its 20th season. Even in a year like this, which brings together experienced All-Star contestants from the show’s history, some outfits are bound to fail. The fashion design competition has strict time limits and no seamstresses around to help you sew, which can trip up even the most gifted artists. So who had the worst looks of the season according to judges Nina Garcia, Elaine Welteroth, and Brandon Maxwell? And did you agree with their withering criticisms? Last week’s “Project Runway” had a bit of a surprise ending. “Toying with Fashion” was an unconventional materials challenge where designers had to obtain their supplies from Fao Schwarz. Laurence Basse expressed disdain for the challenge from the beginning, and judge Nina Garcia chided her for not even trying. But they sent home Mila Hermanovski instead for an unfinished look without a point of view. Will we be surprised again this week?

Bravo’s Project Runway is back with its most epic competition yet. Season 20 of the fashion design competition series returns this June, and it brings together 14 beloved designers from past seasons for a high-stakes, all-star outing.
‘Project Runway’ Season 20 premieres June 15
Hundreds of designers have passed through the Project Runway workroom since the show premiered in 2004. Most end up going home empty-handed. But in the show’s landmark 20th season, which premieres June 15 on Bravo, a select group of past contestants will get another chance to prove they can make it work.
In the two-part season premiere, the designers return to the workroom to fight for one last chance to wow the judges and walk away with a career-changing win. On hand to provide guidance and support will be someone who knows exactly what they’re going through: mentor and season 4 winner Christian Siriano. Ariana DeBose, Anne Hathaway, Issa Rae, Sydney Sweeney, Sigourney Weaver, Olivia Wilde and Michelle Yeoh were honored at Elle’s Women in Hollywood celebration on Monday, along with a starry lineup of presenters and attendees.
The event, held at The Getty Center and coinciding with the magazine’s eight honoree covers, was hosted by Nick Kroll, with opening statements from Elle editor-in-chief Nina Garcia. (Zoe Kravitz was also among the honorees but was not in attendance).
Mindy Kaling kicked off the awards presentation with a speech for her Oceans 8 co-star Hathaway, calling her “one of my favorite actresses, and actually, one of America’s favorite actresses — probably because the sheer magnitude of the talent forces everyone to take stories about women seriously. Anne Hathaway won an Oscar for playing Fantine in Les Mis, but honestly, I would have given her an Oscar for Devil Wears Prada.

New York designers learned several lessons from the Covid-19 pandemic, not only in how to sustain a luxury-focused fashion business amid a global lockdown, but also the importance of making choices wholly rooted in personal fulfillment versus a paramount concern about the bottom line. And if a contented designer equals a commercially successful collection, perhaps that’s no accident.
That’s how both Brandon Maxwell and Carolina Herrera creative director Wes Gordon approached the Spring/Summer 2023 collections they debuted this week. Gordon’s presentation at The Plaza exuded an unabashed joy in each of its elements, from its iconic New York location to its spotlight on bright floral prints — a theme inspired by the 1911 Frances Hodgson Burnett novel The Secret Garden — and especially the show’s soundtrack, a mix of Barbra Streisand’s most exuberant Broadway and cinema hits.

“Project Runway” ended season 19 in historic fashion — no pun intended. It was the first time in the show’s history that women made up the entire final four presenting their collections at New York Fashion Week: Coral Castillo, Kristina Kharlashkina, Shantall Lacayo, and Chasity Sereal. In last week’s penultimate episode the judges could have made the decision to cut them down to the final three, but liked them all so much that they all got a ticket to the finale. But there could be only one winner.
After last week’s show the four designers were sent back home with $10,000 apiece and five months to put together their 10-look collections. Mentor Christian Siriano checked in with each of them two months into their creative journeys. Shantall was first. She was working on her collection at the Istituto Marangoni School of Fashion in Miami, which gave her more space to...

Last time, on the 12th episode of “Project Runway” season 19, fashion editorial icon Coco Rocha served as both guest judge and “model as muse” for the final five designers as they created a look that Coco would wear on a photo shoot of their own vision. Without a runway presentation, the designers were judged live at the photo shoot based on how well they were able to translate their design for editorial purposes. Bones Jones created a gorgeous dress that was ultimately not as effective for print as the others and so he was sent home. Once again, Shantall Lacayo was declared the week’s winner, making it four overall for her on the season.

Last week’s “Project Runway” episode, “Couch Couture,” hoped to elevate pandemic loungewear into something luxurious, but the judges brought the mood way down at the end of the night by eliminating two designers: Octavio Aguilar and Zayden Skipper, whose looks were unoriginal and unflattering, respectively. So what happened when the remaining designers embarked on the most difficult challenge of every “Runway” season: the unconventional materials challenge?

On last week’s fifth episode of “Project Runway” season 19, the 12 remaining designers worked in pairs to create exciting looks for Tara Lipinski and Johnny Weir to wear as commentators at the upcoming 2022 Winter Olympics. As the clients, Tara and Johnny chose Anna and Bones as the winners for Anna’s stunning white beaded gown for Tara and a complementary look for Johnny created by Bones. They weren’t as jazzed by what Sabrina and Prajje assembled for them, and opted to send Sabrina home for her costumey interpretation of the assignment.

On last week’s third episode of “Project Runway” season 19, night descended in the studio as the designers created glamorous masquerade gowns for a “hauntingly chic” runway. Chasity Sereal came out on top in the challenge, lavishly praised by guest judge Taraji P. Henson for what she called “hot sex on a platter.” Kenneth Barlis didn’t fare so well, confusing the judges with a snake-inspired “Batman costume,” according to Nina Garcia.

So there’s no shame in having an off day. Nevertheless, these are the worst looks of season 19 according to the judges. Did they get it right by picking these as the poorest designs? Or did you think any of them were criminally underrated? Scroll down to see the losing looks, updating each week as the season progresses.
The season started with 16 designers: Octavio Aguilar, Darren Apolonio, Kenneth Barlis, Caycee Black, Bones Jones, Coral Castillo, Meg Ferguson, Prajje Oscar Jean-Baptiste, Kristina Kharlashkina, Katie Kortman, Shantall Lacayo, Chasity Sereal, Sabrina Spanta, Aaron Michael Steach, Zayden Skipper, and Anna Zhou.

On last week’s second episode of “Project Runway” season 19, a “#Streetwear” challenge threw the design studio into chaos when Meg Ferguson became openly hostile to Kenneth Barlis over his request to switch models with him for cultural representation reasons. The verbal altercation escalated and reverberated throughout the studio, culminating in Meg’s decision to voluntarily leave the competition. Series judges Nina Garcia, Brandon Maxwell and Elaine Welteroth, joined by host and mentor Christian Siriano this season, all agreed that after Meg’s exit none of the other designers should be eliminated.

“Project Runway” made a triumphant return for its 19th season by embracing the spirit of revival in New York City with a “colorful” premiere on October 14. Series judges Nina Garcia, Brandon Maxwell and Elaine Welteroth joined host and mentor Christian Siriano as well as 16 fresh designers who in week one competed in a two-team face off of monochromatic looks within “warm” and “cool” color palettes. Bones Jones led the warm team as the overall winner while Caycee Black was sent home from the cool team for her unfinished garment. This week the designers worked on their own to create a three-piece streetwear look with an impact, but one designer’s point of view had the most dramatic impact on the entire competition.
