Be More Chill and What The Constitution Means To Me, currently on Broadway, are among the just-announced Lucille Lortel Award nominees for their previous Off Broadway versions.
The Lortels, which honor Off Broadway productions, mark a sort of unofficial kick-off to New York’s theater awards season. Broadway’s Tony Award nominations will be announced Tuesday, April 30.
Winners of the 34th annual Lortel Awards will be announced Sunday, May 5 at an event hosted by Wayne Brady.
Another nominated Off Broadway production that later made its way to Broadway is Mike Birbiglia’s The New One, nominated in the Outstanding Solo Show category.
Tying for most Lortel nominations are Classic Stage Company’s Carmen Jones starring Anika Noni Rose and Ars Nova’s Rags Parkland Sings The Songs Of The Future, each with six nominations.
The nominations were announced today by the Off-Broadway League. The 34th Annual Lucille Lortel Awards will be handed out Sunday,...

Winners of the 63rd annual Drama Desk Awards were revealed on June 3 during a ceremony at the Town Hall in midtown Manhattan that was hosted once again by Michael Urie. As with the Outer Critics Circle Awards, these kudos also consider both Broadway and off-Broadway fare. To that end, the Broadway production of “The Band’s Visit” was ineligible, save for its sound design which was deemed to be new and won with these voters.

The current American president is never mentioned in bookwriterlyricist Quiara Alegria Hudes and composerlyricist Erin McKeown's lovely and touching chamber musical Miss You Like Hell. But even though the piece has been in development well before anyone thought of the former reality TV star as a serious candidate, his presence is well-felt in their story of an undocumented Mexican-American mom who is facing deportation while trying to rebuild her relationship with her citizen daughter.

Immigration, parental absence and cyber-relationships all figure in to the road trip musical “Miss You Like Hell,” an earnest — and now very Trump-topical — show that too often gets stuck in a traffic jam of multiple themes, characters and storylines. The book by Quiara Alegria Hudes, writer of the Pulitzer Prize-winning drama “Water by the Spoonful” and the Tony-winning musical “In the Heights,” has the same longing spirit of both of those tenderhearted shows. Now playing at Off Broadway’s Public Theater after a premiere in late 2016 at San Diego’s La Jolla Playhouse, “Miss You Like Hell” — an exploration and refinement of Hudes’ earlier play “26 Miles” — is overstuffed with ideas and incidents that don’t add up to a sweeping, satisfying whole.

Good morning!
If you're a fan of horor films like I am, then you might already be planning on seeing the Evil Dead remake. Well it appears there is a very bloody lesbian kiss in the film, which you can see at the end of this video. Horrifying!
Erin McKeown is blogging about music this week for Wnyc's Soundcheck.
New York magazine interviewed Dana Rudolph of Mombian.com, saying lesbian mommy blogs are all the rage. Well I guess if they say so! Dana's been at it for years, so she noted the biggest change she's seen since she started blogging:
In general, there's a lot more visibility for Lgbt families both within the gay media and also in the mainstream media. Even mainstream parenting sites usually have at least one Lgbt blogger who writes for them now,...

Good morning! Happy Monday!
A film called Vic and Flo Saw a Bear follows French actresses Pierrette Robitaille and Romane Bohringer as lovers who are also ex-convicts. The drama follows the women as they are released from prison and attempt to live normal lives, despite the presence of parole officers. It won the Alfred Bauer Prize at Berlinale this week, and sounds like it might have a bit of comedy to it, despite being referred to as melodramatic.
On Friday's episode of Portlandia, both Carrie Brownstein and Fred Armisen fall in love with and start dating their roommate, played by Chloe Sevigny. What you really need to know about this is that Carrie and Chloe make out. Thank you, IFC. Thank you.
So apparently Patti Stanger (aka The Millionaire Matchmaker) was once "a lesbian for a year.

Singer-songwriter Erin McKeown is back with her seventh studio album Manifestra, and to celebrate the album’s release today she has also released the official video for her song “Proof.” The video is a visual anomale featuring a fresh-faced McKeown amid a stark background and covered in paint. As McKeown sings the lyrics to the track, the paint appears to be moving backwards, dripping up and off of McKeown. It’s a visual representation of the the stain of a relationship being lifted off of McKeown’s shoulders. You can watch the video exclusively below, and if you’re intrigued about the paint effects,...

McKeown continues to distinguish herself with clever lyrics and instrumentation
It can be hard to stand out in today’s landscape of female songwriters, where vocal acrobatics and wild orchestral accompaniment have become de rigeur, but on her latest, Erin McKeown offers a few blossoms in the brush. While the lush instrumentation on openers “to a Hammer” and “santa cruz” is bright and pleasant, and the playful rockabilly number “the Rascal” is a foot-stomping good time, Hundreds of Lions truly shines as it begins to slow down.
