Each Halloween season, people flip on horror movies, venture into haunted houses, and otherwise dare to expose themselves to various goose-bumps-inducing experiences. And of course, many of us, myself included, love a good horror movie no matter the time of year. But why do we go out of our way to experience fear - exposing our psyches to serial killers, demons, and death in the process? Why would we want to be shocked, terrified, bamboozled, or creeped up on, especially in a world that offers more than enough to be afraid of already?
As it turns out, there are actually plenty of psychological and scientific reasons why many of us enjoy fear and horror. Ahead of Halloween, we're exploring why many of us yearn to get scared out of our minds instead of just popping on a rom-com and calling it a night.

Rush Limbaugh breaks out “tranny,” Louis Tomlinson under fire for gay slur, Hedwig and the Angry Inch cast recording due in July
If you’ve got some time, I highly recommend heading over to Eaddy Mays’ Tumblr post about shipping. She asked followers about canon vs fanon, the dialog and responsibilities between fandom and creators, and expectations. She collected a mountain of responses, published them, and added her perspective. It covered Sterek vs. Dyler, queerbaiting, using fanon ships to promote a show, differences in fandoms like Supernatural, Teen Wolf, and Johnlock, and overall was really more thoughtful than I could ever do justice. But it’s wonderful seeing an actress listening and responding.
I honestly did watch the video of the One Direction boys smoking pot. Big deal. So I had missed that Louis made a racial slur and used “gay” in a derogatory fashion. Fans are now demanding an apology.

Candy Spelling dumped a lover over a penile implant, Rep. Allen West says Glsen is indoctrinating children, can marriage equality in all 50 states arrive by next June?
On a typical Monday in New York, a 26-year-old man and the 21-year-old prostitute he’d called to his home got into a fight when he refused to pay the man. It got ugly, breaking a glass door in the lobby, and police were having trouble reconstructing the fight when David Schwimmer appeared and told them his security cameras next door had captured the whole fight, making him a hero. I hope the prostitute got paid in the end. So that’s what Ross has been up to these days.
So it seems that Pixar’s next film, Inside Out, is basically Herman’s Head for teenage girls.

Splc pressures Amazon to drop Boy Scouts, Louis Smith praises Tom Daley, Katy Perry has seen Kacey Musgraves naked
Speaking at the Hay Festival, Jennifer Saunders confirms that she’s working on an Absolutely Fabulous movie for release sometime in 2015. “I am writing the film as we speak – it’s in the pipeline. I am hoping it will be released by the end of next year.” The paper notes that Chris Colfer is expected to be among the stars in the film, but doesn’t attribute that to Saunders, so it could just be their Twitter exchange a couple of months ago.
After Amazon said that they wouldn’t drop the Boy Scouts of America from their charitable giving program because banned organizations were picked from the Splc’s hate groups list, the Splc has written a letter to Amazon about why they should drop the Scouts. “But the lack...

Celebrities took to Twitter Tuesday night to express their delight that Barack Obama was reelected president of the United States. While he had many more high-profile star endorsements than Mitt Romney, do celebrity endorsements really make a difference?
Top lifestyle and business expert Jen Groover weighed in.
"It all depends on who the celebrity is and how authentic their endorsement is," Groover said. “It bodes well for the politician to align themselves with a celebrity who has already been involved with politics or made politically driven messages. For example, Ben Affleck has participated in politics in the past, so the public will be more apt to believe in his endorsement.”
Peter Shankman, a marketing entrepreneur, said he agrees. “They help, more often that not, because for better or worse, we're a society that likes when famous people tell us how to think. Not everyone, but in general, yes."

Kristen Stewart is so upset over cheating on Robert Pattinson that she wants to punish herself, according to top psychotherapist Dr. Robi Ludwig. "Kristen is punished herself by not taking care of herself," Dr. Ludwig explains. "She's grieving and wondering if she's lovable, and will anyone love her?" But Dr. Ludwig explains that as long as this doesn't go on for more than a few weeks, Kristen will be okay. "If this goes on for two weeks or longer, it's possibly a clinical depressive state and she should be evaluated," she tells us. "But right now, it might be more of an extremem depressive reaction, and it's understandable under the circumstances." Do you...

Time magazine's new controversial cover has caused quite a stir for its depiction of a mother breast-feeding her toddler, and cover model Jamie Grumet is defending her parenting choices on "Today" Friday (May 11).
"This isn't how we breast-feed at home, it's more of a cradling, nurturing situation," Grumet, 26, says. "I do understand why Time chose this picture because ... it did create such a media craze to get the dialogue talking."
Grumet, whose son, Aram, is almost 4, says she was breastfed until she was 6 but is hoping that Aram's fourth year will be his final.
"He's self-weaning right now," she says.
Dr. William Sears, author of "The Baby Book," joined Grumet on the show, noting that attachment parenting techniques are what parents would instinctively do if they were on an island with no one else around.
"I've never yet seen an attachment-parented baby who's become a school bully," Sears says.

Being gorgeous like Sandra Bullock, Jen Aniston or Elin Nordegren doesn’t protect you from a cheater. Here’s why men cheat!
Congressman/sexter Anthony Weiner‘s beautiful wife Huma Abedin is the latest high profile woman to be stunned to learn that her husband had a shocking sexual double life.
It seems that like Sandra Bullock, who publicly thanked her then-husband, Jesse James, at awards shows for his love, and Maria Shriver, who defended husband, Arnold Schwarzenegger, against cheating accusations when he ran for governor — Huma didn’t suspect a thing.
So why do men cheat on the world’s most beautiful women? And often with women, far less attractive and accomplished than their wives?
“It has nothing to do with one’s look. One’s look will not deter a man who is going to cheat, asserts psychotherapist Dr. Robi Ludwig, author of Til Death Do Us Part.

Arnold, there is No excuse for cheating on your wife, let alone cheating with your housekeeper because your wonderful wife was hard at work.
Apparently Arnold Schwarzenegger‘s infamous affair with Mildred “Patty” Baena, his family’s housekeeper for 20 years, began when Maria still had her NBC News Correspondent job. The future Governor of California was home alone and feeling sorry for himself, clearly giving himself the excuse to hit on his housekeeper according to a new report in the National Enquirer.
Patty’s friend, Maria Medel, claims Arnold complained to Patty that his marriage was “sexless,” and that Maria Shriver was “never around.” He complained to her that he felt lonely and unloved, and he started drinking — soon asking Patty to join him.
“One drink led to another, and then another,” says the report. Patty told her friend that they started kissing and “that led to their first sexual encounter.
