Following May screenings of their giallo-inspired feature Sororal at the Fantaspoa Film Festival in Porto Alegre, Brazil, the team at Nakatomi Pictures announce the release of the film's soundtrack, marking the milestone with the unveiling of the official poster artwork.
From the Press Release:
In aspiring to produce Australia’s first neo-giallo thriller, writer-director Sam Barrett was aware from the outset that the score would be critical to successfully creating the surreal parallel universe in Sororal.
He put the challenge in front of composer Christopher de Groot.
“A lot has been said about the beautiful imagery in hallmark giallo films, but there is no over-estimating the importance of music in the genre. The best giallo scores can take you away to a strange dream world that is beautiful, erotic, and frightening, a world which Chris has definitely sculpted for Sororal,” says Barrett. “True, we used a dizzying array of references as a starting point,...

Huffin & Puffin: McLean Continues Flaccid Exploration of the Menacing Aussie Outback
Tourists are again reminded that the Australian Outback is a statistically menacing place in Wolf Creek 2, which is of, course, Greg McLean’s follow-up to his 2005 indie horror hit Wolf Creek, lauded by the likes of Quentin Tarantino for the psychotically delightful lead performance from John Jarratt, returning here. Not nearly as eerie as the first installment happened to be, indebted as it was to the Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise, McLean revisits the same formula with just a titch of variance. Insistently straightforward and plodding along inevitably despite some attempts to mix things up a bit, those looking for more of the same torture porn antics should be sated, but anyone hoping for something beyond the generic formula will be a bit bored.
Laughably opening (once again) with a smattering of statistics after the eerie ‘based on true events’ slogan arrives,...

With his iconic laugh and maniacal mean streak, Wolf Creek's Mick Taylor is on par with Baby Firefly as one of the coolest cinematic killers – just not nearly as attractive. John Jarratt brings Mick to a new low as the gritty, downright dirty evildoer from Down Under in the long-awaited sequel.
Inventively entitled Wolf Creek 2, the flick is due out in theaters on May 16th. We got the chance to pick John’s brain (before Mick could pick ours – thank goodness the interview was done over the phone), and here’s what he had to say to all the horror fans who’ve been anxiously awaiting his return.

It is incredibly unusual for a sequel to take eight years, and it's even more uncommon for a sequel made after that kind of delay to actually be made by the creative team behind the original. Normally, if it had taken this long to get a sequel made, it would most likely be a whole new group of people working with a property, but here, we've got writer/director Greg Mclean back in the driver's seat, working with co-writer Aaron Sterns (who has worked with Mclean in other capacities on earlier films) and with John Jarratt, who once again plays outback serial killer Mick Taylor. I hadn't seen the original in so long that I had to go back and find my original review to try and remind myself what my issues with it were. I knew I liked the original, but that something had made me hesitant to give it a whole-hearted recommendation.

Mick Taylor is back to his tourist-killing ways in Wolf Creek 2 and, with the movie hitting Us VOD services next week, we caught up with John Jarratt for the latest segment in our Q&A series. In this feature, John Jarratt talks about who inspired his portrayal of Mick Taylor, what he’s working on next, and he shares one of his favorite on-set moments from Wolf Creek 2:
In both Wolf Creek films you do a wonderful job of balancing between a kind, happy-go-lucky guy and a menacing, maniacal guy. How do you prepare for a character like Mick? How do you find that balance?
John Jarratt: The happy go lucky guy is an impersonation of my father who was a fun loving outback, knock about, guy. Just add menacing and maniacal and you’ve made Mick.

I know some people greatly dislike Greg Mclean’s Wolf Creek. If I had to take a guess as to why, it would be because it was released right around the height of the “torture porn” craze. When Saw and Hostel made it popular, studios cashed in with both super-low-budget features, and features with a decent budget. Wolf Creek was different, to me. It wasn’t just another “torture porn” film. It was part of the Ozploitation resurgence that occurred during the mid-to-late portion of the last decade. It was stunningly photographed, and oozing with atmosphere. It featured a solid slow-burning pace, where at any moment, you felt, things could go from bad to worse in any imaginable way. It also featured John Jarratt as one of the most terrifyingly charismatic psychopaths to hit the screen in the last couple of decades. It was slow, however. So, people of the...

It's been nearly ten years since pigshooter Mick Taylor (John Jarratt) terrorized a young group of people exploring the Outback in Wolf Creek, but now he's got a new set of victims. Wolf Creek 2 continues the horror with a couple exploring the vast Wolf Creek National Park, until the sadistic serial killer with a penchant for bloodthirsty sport stumbles upon their campsite and aims to make the rest of their life (which won't be long) a living hell. The first trailer looks like more of the same for anyone who enjoyed the first film, but hopefully Mick Taylor will step up his game a little bit to be even more ruthless this time around. Here's the full theatrical trailer for Greg Mclean's Wolf Creek 2, originally from Yahoo: Wolf Creek 2 is directed by Greg Mclean (Wolf Creek, Rogue), who co-wrote the script with newcomer Aaron Sterns. Director: Greg Mclean. Writers: Greg Mclean and Aaron Sterns. Cast: John Jarratt, Ryan Corr, and Shannon Ashlyn. It is almost always a good thing to a see a film well before its release date. Sometimes, this opportunity will act as a warning and sometimes as encouragment, for horror fans to see the film. For Wolf Creek 2, it is the second scenario. This slasher film, which is loosely based on the victims of serial killer Ivan Milat, is a truly unsettling film. Full of gruesome imagery, Wolf Creek 2 is blood-soaked and ready to thrill. This sequel is much bigger than the first film, especially in settings and this viewer would recommend Wolf Creek 2 to most horror fans. The story for the film is similar to the first. Serial killer Mick Taylor (John Jarratt) is stalking the Wolf Creek Crater in Australia, in search of murder victims. Mick uses...

In case it isn’t obvious, I’m a pretty big fan of the horror genre, and so I wanted to spotlight some of my most anticipated horror films of 2014. Between the big studio releases and the crop of independent features from some of our favourite directors, 2014 looks to be a great year.
Note: I am not including such movies as Big Bad Wolves or Cheap Thrills, or any other film I had the pleasure of watching at a film festival in 2013. For those, you should check out my list of favourite horror films of 2013. I am also not including Godzilla, since it appears on our list of most anticipated sci-fi films.

Face it. No matter where you go in this world, you have to abide by that area's rules, both spoken and unspoken. Growing up in Brooklyn, New York, I can tell you for a fact that walking two blocks the wrong way could mean the difference between safety and horror.

Greg Mclean, creator of Wolf Creek and the upcoming sequel, is determined to avoid being pigeonholed as the guy who makes scary movies about a serial killer.
As a writer, director and executive producer, Mclean is developing a raft of projects which span diverse genres and should demonstrate he.s equally adept at family films as horror/thrillers.
The filmmaker has joined the agency CAA after leaving Wma, is fielding several offers and hopes to settle on his next directing assignment within a few weeks.
Hugo Weaving is attached to star in One Foot Wrong as the father of a five-year-old girl who makes friends and communicates with inanimate objects like trees and spoons. Mclean wrote the screenplay based on a novel by Sophie Laguna and he will executive produce, working with producers Bianca Martino and Ayisha Davies. Serial killer Mick Taylor is back- and it seems he.s even scarier and more brutal.
Wolf Creek 2, the sequel to Greg Mclean.s 2005 hit horror movie, had its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival on Friday.
The first few reviews generally are pretty positive, paying tribute to Mclean.s direction and the performances of John Jarratt as Taylor and Ryan Corr as his principal victim. However all found fault with aspects of the film, which Roadshow will release in February.
The screenplay by Mclean and horror novelist Aaron Sterns follows Taylor as he encounters three backpackers, a Pom and two Germans, played by Corr, Shannon Ashlyn and Philippe Klaus, in the Outback.
.Though showing a smidgen of mercy to female members of the cast, possibly to counteract accusations of misogyny in No. 1, Wolf Creek 2 knows better than to deviate from the classic scenario of a mad...

Screen Australia says it has not mismanaged its finances by spending its annual production funding in just six months - a state of affairs which it says reflects the strength of the local film industry.
The government screen agency revealed in mid-December 2012 that it had spent its entire annual $42 million drama production allocation due to the unprecedented number of quality feature film and television projects seeking support. The shock announcement was reminiscent of the agency's abrupt decision to cut its investment cap in 2009 while several films were mid-financed. That decision.threw several major Australian productions into dissaray including The Tree and the biggest box office hit of.2010, Tomorrow When the War Began (Omnilab Media had to increase its investment at the last minute to ensure production).
Overspending on such a scale has never occurred before, even going back to the era of Screen Australia.s predecessor funding arm, the Film Finance Corporation.

On the third week of January in my wonderful city of Melbourne, Australia I got to experience my very first Horror Convention, Oz Horror Con 2013. It may very well have been the first of it’s kind for the country, at least in recent years. Horror for some reason is a genre that seems to have very little outlets here, it has always been a task to find like-minded people and find places that seem to know their stuff.
It was a great pleasure to attend this Convention, I felt at home there, alongside other fans of horror and stalls where I could look through DVDs of my below genre as well as stalls of books and all sorts of memorabilia.

Wolf Creek fans will be happy to hear that Wolf Creek 2 is definitely coming! The sequel comes seven years after the original movie, and the good thing is that Greg Mclean is once again on board to direct the whole thing. At this moment we also know that John Jarratt is set to reprise the role of Mick Taylor, while the rest of the cast will include a brand new cast of Australian talent. The sequel to Australia’s highest grossing R-rated film ever has started production in South Australia after long delays.
Wolf Creek 2 has begun principal photography, again helmed by writer-director-producer Greg Mclean.
It will be a welcome relief to Mclean after the film struggled to get off the ground due to financing issues. In 2011 private investor Geoffrey Edelsten agreed to $5m investment but was later accused of failing to honour his commitment.
In a counter-suit, Edelsten claimed he was misled into being the major private investor.
The film was back on track by September but Edelsten has not returned as an investor in the project.
However the film does see the return of notorious pig hunter Mick Taylor played by John Jarrett, currently seen in Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained.
