Former CNN Newsroom host Brooke Baldwin is bringing her skills to Netflix for its new greed-centric reality competition series The Trust. The eight-part reality series is set to kick off on Wednesday, January 10, and puts eleven strangers at the center of the game which splits a quarter of a million dollars among the players evenly. The question is, will they take their fair share or will the possibility of winning more money divide them? In order to win more money, they’ll have to vote each other out, proving that The Trust is the ultimate test of human nature, as greed and mistrust threaten to destroy relationships made in the game. Ultimately, everyone starts as winners and they can all leave as winners, if they decide to share fair and square. In the vein of Peacock‘s Alan Cumming-hosted The Traitors, this new show puts these players in a...

Exclusive: Netflix is taking on The Traitors at its own game. The streamer has ordered The Trust, an eight-part reality series that delves into the theme of greed.
Eleven strangers are given a quarter of a million dollars to split evenly. Will they take their fair share? Or will the allure of more money cause them to vote each other out to keep more for themselves? It’s the ultimate test of human nature, as greed and mistrust threaten to destroy even the strongest of relationships. In this game, everyone starts as winners and they can all leave as winners – if they choose to share.
It’s described as a cross between Peacock’s Alan Cumming-hosted hit and Big Brother.
The series is hosted by Brooke Baldwin, who previously hosted CNN Newsroom and left the news broadcaster in 2021.

Don Lemon’s abrupt firing on Monday just moments after he co-hosted “CNN This Morning” sent shockwaves throughout the news industry and now the reasons behind why CNN gave the anchor his walking papers are coming into focus.
Speculation was rampant both internally and externally Monday as Lemon’s colleagues and media peers wondered why exactly the anchor was fired: Was it the Nikki Haley comments that were deemed misogynistic? The heated interview with GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy? An on-set clash with co-host Kaitlan Collins? Was it the morning show’s low ratings? It was all the above, apparently.
According to insiders, the decision wasn’t related to any one thing but rather a sum of the parts. And it certainly didn’t help Lemon that internal research showed that he was “not working” with CNN’s female-skewing audience in the morning, a network executive told TheWrap.

Don Lemon is leaving CNN after 17 years of pushing its boundaries.
The anchor, who had become one of the Warner Bros. Discovery network’s most popular faces in recent years, announced on social media Monday that he had been ousted from CNN.
“I was informed this morning by my agent that I have been terminated by CNN. I am stunned. After 17 years at CNN I would have thought that someone in management would have had the decency to tell me directly. At no time was I ever given any indication that I would not be able to continue to do the work I have loved at the network. It is clear that there are some larger issues at play,” Lemon said. “With that said, I want to thank my colleagues and the many teams I have worked with for an incredible run. As 2022 goes out, so too will a recent holiday tradition: During CNN’s broadcast of various New Year’s Eve celebrations, Don Lemon probably won’t be downing shots on camera.
The Warner Bros. Discovery-backed news outlet wants to pare back some of the zany antics that have become a staple of its wee-hours coverage of the last night of the year. While Anderson Cooper will still be able to imbibe during primetime hours — along with his co-host Andy Cohen — while the duo holds forth in Times Square, correspondents and anchors who may have slurped down alcoholic concoctions on camera (or off) in the past will be required to halt the practice.

Kristin Chenoweth, Kathy Najimy, Linda Perry, Lauren Blitzer and Chely Wright are being announced as the compilers of a forthcoming book that, inspired by (but not limited to) the #MeToo movement, lets women from the entertainment industry and other walks of life describe a crucial point of adversity that propelled them into forward motion for good.
The essay collection, titled “My Moment: 106 Women on Fighting for Themselves,” has been acquired for world rights by Gallery Books, an imprint of Simon & Schuster, and will come out April 26, 2022.
“For so long, women have been silent about things that have hurt them or made them feel ashamed,” says Chenoweth. “I’ve kept my story quiet for a long time, and yes, it was scary to tell, but I’m doing it because I feel so empowered to stand with these incredible girls and women. After making a business in delivering news with a conservative point of view, Fox Corporation is looking to do the same with sports.
The company has purchased Outkick, the conservative-leaning sports-news site founded by entrepreneur and online personality Clay Travis.
The acquisition was unveiled by Lachlan Murdoch, the company’s CEO, during a call with investors on Wednesday. Financial terms were not disclosed. Outkick, said Murdoch, is a leader “in sports news, and more critically, sports opinion,” and is likely to align with Fox’s core audience.
Travis, a former attorney, founded the site as an extension of his work doing sports columns for CBS, Deadspin and FanHouse. He is known for outspoken, even flip, commentary, and many people who are not close followers may best know him from a CNN appearance in which he was taken off the air by anchor Brooke Baldwin after he made references to female anatomy.

CNN viewers are going to have to get used to waking up with someone new in the morning.
The WarnerMedia cable-news outlet on Monday launches its “New Day” a.m. franchise into a new era, with Brianna Keilar, who has gained notice over the past year with a take-no-prisoners demeanor on CNN’s afternoon schedule, joining the versatile anchor John Berman. A new executive producer will oversee it all: Eric Hall will guide the action from behind the camera.
“We will play to Brianna and Berman’s strengths — being blunt, being candid,” said Hall in an interview. “Calling a spade a spade.”
Since launching in 2013 near the start of the Jeff Zucker era at CNN, “New Day” has played no small role in pushing morning programs toward a tougher, in-your-face stance. The show’s previous anchors, Alisyn Camerota and Chris Cuomo, didn’t shy from interviews with government executives and...

CNN’s Brooke Baldwin urged women to “speak up and keep pushing” for diversity and equality in her final sign-off from her show on Friday.
“We do need diverse voices telling our stories from in front of the camera and to the executive suites,” Baldwin said. “We are making progress. So, whatever industry you’re in, my parting words: Get a little uncomfortable. Speak up and keep pushing.”

Outgoing CNN anchor Brooke Baldwin opened up this week about gender pay disparity at the network, but said “it’s getting better.”

“There’s no way we will have progress if a bunch of white women are winning,” she said. “It’s brown women, Black women, Asian women, it’s across the board.

CNN shook up its daytime schedule, unveiling a series of changes that will affect both its “New Day” morning program as well as its afternoon programming — the latest in a series of change at the nation’s big mainstream TV news outlets in the aftermath of the 2020 election.
The WarnerMedia cable-news outlet intends to move early-afternoon anchor Brianna Keilar to co-host “New Day” with John Berman, pair morning host Alisyn Camerota with Victor Blackwell in the 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. slot previously led by Brooke Baldwin and feature Ana Cabrera at 1 p.m. weekdays. The moves come as CNN has been working to feature a lineup of anchors from more diverse backgrounds than it has in the past. Internal dynamics played a factor in the decisions as well: Camerota, who has been at the helm of “New Day” for six years, has made known for some time that she...

Times Square in New York will be closed to the public Thursday night for New Year’s Eve celebrations, the first time there won’t be a crowd at the iconic locale on December 31 since the first ball drop in 1907 (the first celebration at One Times Square in Manhattan was in 1904). But in a year in which the entertainment industry has had to adjust to a virtual stage, the show will go on and the ball will still drop at midnight.
Official Times Square New Year’s Eve co-organizers Times Square Alliance and Countdown Entertainment will present a six-hour commercial-free webcast (closed to the public and following New York state health protocols), with Jonathan Bennett returning as host. When Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen try to show CNN viewers the sights and sounds of New Year’s Eve in Times Square this year, they will face one of their biggest challenges: There won’t be any.
The throngs of people who come to see the fabled ball drop in what is billed as New York’s “Crossroads of the World” won’t be in attendance, due to concerns about the coronavirus pandemic. For Cooper and Cohen, however, the show must go on.
People at home will want to watch and ring out a terrible year, says Cooper. “We want it to be a New Year’s Eve without all the mishegoss. You don’t have to have all the sturm and drang. Brianna Keilar isn’t looking for a fight in the early afternoon on CNN. Sometimes, she gets one anyway.
In recent weeks, Keilar has tilted at Fox News Channel anchor Tucker Carlson in a fact-checking segment about his criticism of U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth, and appeared to be on the verge of tangling with U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi after asking her if she trusted White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows when negotiating a coronavirus relief package. “That’s not an appropriate question for you to ask,” Pelosi responded. Keilar used tough words with Tim Murtaugh, the communications director of the Trump 2020 Campaign, who kept asking her to “hold on a second” as she questioned him about the administration’s coronavirus policy.
Keilar’s reply: “I can’t hold on a second when you’re not being honest.”

CBS News veteran Lesley Stahl revealed a weeks-long battle with coronavirus in the waning minutes of Sunday’s broadcast of “60 Minutes,” adding to the list of prominent journalists who have grappled with the disease.
CBS News and Stahl, who is 78 years old and the “60 Minutes” correspondent most associated to the show’s earlier days under founding producer Don Hewitt, had not disclosed her illness previously, though the ViacomCBS unit had made public in March that a number staffers at “60 Minutes” had tested positive.
“One of the rules of journalism is ‘Don’t become part of the story.’ But instead of covering the pandemic, I was one of the more than one million Americans who did become part of it,” Stahl said at the close of the newsmagazine’s Sunday broadcast,. “I wasn’t alone from this broadcast. “60 Minutes” host Lesley Stahl revealed during Sunday’s broadcast that she had been diagnosed with the coronavirus and had managed to make a full recovery after being hospitalized.
Stahl, who is 78, noted that she was far from the only member of the “60 Minutes” staff to have tested positive for Covid-19 — one member of the news team had displayed no signs of infection, while others suffered extreme symptoms. Stahl said she experienced the latter, dealing with pneumonia for two weeks to the point that she had to be admitted to the hospital.

Fox Corp. said that as part of a Covid-19 relief effort up to 34 food service workers at the Fox studio lot in Los Angeles have started preparing 2,000 meals daily for people with disabilities as part of a four-week partnership with the L.A. Mayor’s Office.
A team of Fox workers Monday started putting together meals five days a week in the Commissary and News Cafe kitchens at the Fox lot in Century City. (Rupert Murdoch hung on to the historic lot even when he sold most of 21st Century Fox’ entertainment assets to Walt Disney Co.). Fox workers assemble, pack and truck the meals to a distribution point – in this case the parking lot of the Palms-Rancho Park Branch of the L.A. Public Library – for distribution.

The larger-than-anticipated figure – representing 21.2% of New York City residents – could indicate that the death rate for those exposed might be much lower than previously believed.

Fox News’ Laura Ingraham took a break from misleading viewers about all things coronavirus to disparage those at CNN who have shared their experiences while battling the virus.
On Wednesday night, Ingraham, who regularly trolls in dangerous coronavirus advice like touting untested drugs and encouraging people to take part in anti-stay-at-home protests, devoted more than five minutes of her program to talk smack about the newscasters, complete with pre-packaged graphics.
