Production is moving forward for Jensen and Danneel Ackles. With their latest endeavor, “The Winchesters” slated to premiere on The CW on Oct. 11, the couple recently renewed their first-look deal with Warner Bros. Television for two more years and teases there’s a few more stories they’re looking to share in the future through their production company, Chaos Machine.
“We are excited to continue our relationship with Warner Bros. as it’s been our home for a long time. It feels only natural that The Winchesters would stay within the Warner Bros. family and continue on the Supernatural legacy,” said the couple in a joint statement.
The “Supernatural” prequel series, is a continuation of the Ackles’ relationship with the CW –– and despite recent changes in leadership as Mark Pedowitz stepped down as CEO and the network’s recent sale to Nexstar, Jensen says he and his wife/business partner...

Netflix’s decision to scrap its Grendel comic book adaptation after all eight episodes were shot is not sitting well with one of the show’s stars.
“Hundreds of talented, tireless, wonderful people shot not just a pilot, not just a few episodes, but an entire season that now might go unseen,” Flash alum Andy Mientus (aka Grendel’s Larry Stohler) lamented Wednesday on Instagram. “I’m used to shows closing or getting cancelled, but only after they at least get to meet the world, their fate decided (mostly) by their audience. Netflix has grounded its adaptation of the Dark Horse Comic book Grendel.
Deadline revealed the news Tuesday, stating that the show had been in production and that plenty of scenes had been filmed.
Based on Matt Wagner's groundbreaking comic book series, Grendel follows Hunter Rose, a gifted fencer, writer and assassin as, seeking to avenge the death of a lost love, he goes to war with New York's criminal underworld, only to realize...why beat them, when you can join them?
That was the logline shared when the series got a formal pickup a year ago.
Deadline notes that producers plan to shop the series around, but there's no telling what paved the way for the cancellation.
The cast of the project was to include Abubakr Ali as the titular “Grendel”/“Hunter Rose.”

“Grendel” is no longer happening at Netflix, Variety has confirmed.
Based on Matt Wagner’s popular comic books, the series (which had an eight episode order) follows Hunter Rose, a fencer, writer and assassin who fights organized crime in New York to avenge the death of a lost love, until he ends up taking over the crime scene himself. It was originally picked up at Netflix in September 2021.
Producers now have the option to auction the project elsewhere. No further information has been released.
Abubakr Ali is set to play the show’s titular role. Ali is known for playing Sebastian ‘Bash’ Kamal-Stern in “Power Book II: Ghost.” His other credits include playing Raj Patel in “Katy Keene” and a leading role in “What If?,” the upcoming feature from Orion Pictures and Killer Films directed by Billy Porter.

Fans looking forward to Netflix’s Grendel series will be disappointed to learn that the adaptation of the Dark Horse Entertainment property is not moving forward. The Grendel series, led by Abubakr Ali, initially received an eight-episode order as a part of Netflix’s first look deal with the publisher. Thankfully, Grendel could have the chance to be sold to another platform. If another outlet picks up the show, Ali will be the first Arab Muslim male actor to portray a series lead in a comic book adaptation.
Resident Evil and Supernatural alum Andrew Dabb wrote the Grendel series in addition to serving as showrunner and executive producer. According to Deadline, Grendel follows Hunter Rose (Ali), a gifted fencer, writer, and assassin, seeking to avenge the death of a lost love. Netflix has nixed its Grendel comic book adaptation, one year after granting it an eight-episode series order.
Hailing from Supernatural co-showrunner Andrew Dabb and starring Abubakr Ali (Katy Keene) as the masked vigilante from the award-winning Matt Wagner/Dark Horse comic books, the series was to follow Hunter Rose, a gifted fencer, writer and assassin who, in seeking to avenge the death of a lost love, goes to war with New York’s criminal underworld. Except then he realizes, “Why beat them, when you can join them?”

Netflix will not be going forward with Grendel, a series based on the masked vigilante from Matt Wagner’s popular, award-winning Dark Horse comic book series, which had an eight-episode order. Abubakr Ali stars in the titular role, the first Arab Muslim male actor to portray a series lead in a comic book adaptation. “Grendel,” the live-action series adaptation of the Dark Horse comic book of the same name, will not be moving forward at Netflix, individuals with knowledge of the matter have told TheWrap.
The decision, which was not “taken lightly,” will not impact Dark Horse Entertainment’s overall deal with the streamer.
The show’s producers have the opportunity to shop the project externally if they choose to and find the best home for their show, but no other details were given.

The first live-action series in the Resident Evil franchise will be a short-lived one.
Netflix has canceled the series after a single season. The decision comes six weeks after Resident Evil’s July 14 debut and after both the streamer’s own metrics and external measurements showed the series didn’t have a long shelf life with viewers.
The series was the first live action show in the media-spanning Resident Evil universe after a host of video games and movie adaptations and a Netflix animated series that premiered in 2021. It’s set primarily in 2036, 14 years after a deadly virus caused a global apocalypse, and centers on a young woman (Ella Balinska) fighting for survival amid hordes of zombies and other monsters.
The cast also includes Lance Reddick, Tamara Smart, Siena Agudong, Adeline Rudolph, Paola Nuñez, Ahad Raza Mir, Connor Gosatti and Turlough Convery.

Netflix has canceled “Resident Evil” after one season, TheWrap has confirmed. The eight-episode horror series, based on the game franchise of the same name, premiered on the streamer July 14.
The cancellation is unsurprising given the series’ mixed-to-negative critical and audience response: On Metacritic, “Resident Evil” holds a critics’ consensus score of 53 and an overwhelmingly negative user score of 1.5. The show holds a similar 55 critics’ score and 27 audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Upon its debut, “Resident Evil” held the No. 2 slot on Netflix’s Top 10, logging 72.67 million hours viewed. It dropped to No. 3 and No. 5 in the consecutive weeks, eventually exiting the list after its third week.

The live-action “Resident Evil” series at Netflix has been canceled after just one season.
The eight-episode first season premiered on Netflix July 14. The show was originally ordered to series at Netflix in 2020.
The series debuted to a mixed critical response, registering just a 55 approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes coupled with a 27 audience approval rating. Per the weekly Netflix Top 10 rankings that the streamer issues, “Resident Evil” was streamed for over 72 million hours the week it debuted, making it the number two program of the week behind only “Stranger Things” Season 4. After just one season that premiered this past July, Netflix has already made the decision to cancel their live action “Resident Evil” series, Deadline reports this afternoon.
Deadline notes, “The news, which comes a month and a half after the series’ July 14 release, is not entirely surprising as the drama did not have a particularly strong showing on Netflix’s Top 10 and cost vs. viewing is the streamer’s leading renewal criterion.”
The idea behind the Netflix series was to adapt different parts of different Resident Evil games, opening up the universe and allowing anything to be possible within the show’s world. In fact, there had been hints that elements from Resident Evil Village would be making their way into future seasons, with an appearance from Lady Dimitrescu being teased by the creators.
Alas, Netflix’s “Resident Evil” is no more. The fate of many shows in the streaming era.

The big question for longtime Resident Evil fans with regards to Netflix’s new take on the franchise is whether or not it exists within the same canon as the games. Does this show continue or enhance the timeline of the video games in some way?
The definitive answer is revealed in episode 7, “Parasite,” in which we learn that the show’s Albert Wesker (Lance Reddick), father to Jade (Ella Balinska/Tamara Smart) and Billie (Adeline Rudolph/Siena Agudong), is one of several clones the Wesker from the games made of himself. We even see Reddick don the signature leather trench coat and shades for a short flashback scene in which the original Wesker physically and verbally abuses every soul in his vicinity, as only he can.

Netflix’s new Resident Evil series points the franchise in a very unexpected direction, completely changing what we think we know about the villainous Albert Wesker. Played by Lance Reddick (Fringe) in the new streaming show, the Wesker of this series is much more than just a mad scientist hellbent on world domination — he’s also a family man with two daughters with their own teen drama to sort out. Jade (Ella Balinska/Tamara Smart) and Billie (Adeline Rudolph/Siena Agudong) give us an inside look into what it’s like growing up a Wesker, and by the end of the first season, we’ve learned just what it means to be tied to such a dark legacy.

The latest series adaptation of "Resident Evil" just premiered on Netflix, and according to series writer Andrew Dabb, things are going to get real bloody in the survival horror show.
In an interview with Rotten Tomatoes, Dabb talks about the blood and gore aspect of the "Resident Evil" series, and how important it was for the showrunners to maintain a not-too-serious, fun vibe without making it look too "cartoonish":
"They gave us an unlimited blood budget, let's just put it that way... If you're going to do that, let's have some fun. But at the same time, there are moments where it's like, Blood makes sense...

Warning: The following contains spoilers from all eight episodes of Netflix’s Resident Evil.
Netflix’s Resident Evil series, which dropped all eight episodes on Thursday, centers on Dr. Albert Wesker’s creation of the pharmaceutical drug containing the T-virus and the apocalyptic aftermath it creates 14 years later. There’s just one problem: Wesker died in 2009 after a fight that ended with him falling into a volcano and being hit with an explosion on top of that.

In 2002, the first “Resident Evil” live-action film based on the zombie horror video game dropped in theaters. Although director Paul W.S. Anderson’s adaptation featuring Milla Jovovich was entertaining enough to garner a sequel, the film barely touched the original storyline and underwhelmed gamers and critics alike. 20 years, seven live-action movies, and about 12 games later, Netflix’s “Resident Evil” series is here to disappoint jaded fans yet again.
Created by Andrew Dabb (“Supernatural”), this new eight-episode Netflix series focuses on fraternal twins Jade and Billie Wesker, the daughters of scientist and Umbrella Corporation scientist Albert Wesker. The previous movies, including the recent “Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City,” were action-horror spectacles. But this “Resident Evil” series feels like a YA time-hopping genre mystery unfolding across two timelines.

Anyone who’s ever watched Supernatural knows that Sam and Dean Winchester’s unbreakable bond was the heart of that series. The brothers didn’t always get along, but they still fought tooth and nail for each other, regardless of the consequences.

Netflix has released a full-length trailer for its Resident Evil series, and it ups the monster factor by a lot.
The clip showcases more of the scale of the series, which is based on the long-running video game turned movie franchise, than an earlier teaser did. There are giant spiders, an enormous wormlike creature that bursts from underground and several other nightmare-fuel creatures, along with the hordes of zombies showcased in the previous clip.
Netflix picked up the series in August 2020. The TV adaptation is the first live-action series for the long-running franchise, whose first video game iteration debuted in 1996. It has also spawned seven feature films and a Netflix animated series that premiered in July 2021.

“Resident Evil” is heading to the small screen, but the monsters appear to be bigger than ever. Netflix debuted a new trailer for their live-action “Resident Evil” series Monday as a part of their jam-packed Geeked Week, and the new footage offers some hints at plot details, along with plenty of mystery and even more monsters.
A new approach to the long-running video game, film and animation franchise, Netflix’s series (the first live-action series in franchise history) follows Jade Wesker (Ella Balinska) – daughter of familiar “Resident Evil” character Albert Wesker (played by Lance Reddick) – as she “fights for survival in a world overrun by the blood-thirsty infected and insane creatures. In this absolute carnage, Jade is haunted by her past in New Raccoon City, by her father’s chilling connections to the Umbrella Corporation but mostly by what happened to her sister, Billie.”

Just a year after the premiere of its last live-action adaptation, the “Resident Evil” franchise has risen from the grave in the first trailer for the upcoming Netflix horror series.

“Resident Evil” is back, and this time it’s heading to streaming. Netflix debuted the teaser trailer for its live-action series adaptation of the hit video game and film franchise on Thursday, revealing the first footage from the upcoming adaptation — and it’s jam-packed with all the “Resident Evil” hallmarks — the nefarious doings of the Umbrella Corporation, the spread of the T-Virus, blood-thirsty mutant animals and, of course, a whole lot of zombies.
After a glimpse at the false promise of Raccoon City’s 2022 utopia, the trailer jumps to post-zombie-outbreak London in 2036, delivering an action-packed (and blood-soaked) glimpse at the first live-action “Resident Evil” series. All eight episodes debut globally on Netflix on July 14.
No doubt, “Resident Evil” fans will be searching for Easter eggs in the new trailer – and while you’re at it, keep an eye out for a couple of hidden opportunities to hunt down more sneak peeks online.
