“Barbie” is a cultural phenomenon, grossing nearly $1.5 billion and racking up eight Oscar nominations, all while launching scores of catchphrases and memes.
So it’s understandable that Mattel, the company behind the iconic doll, is looking to capitalize on its cinematic success by developing dozens of movies based on its games and toys. Moviegoers can look forward to Barney, Bob the Builder and He-Man hitting the big screen in the not-so-distant future.
But as Hollywood raids toy store shelves to feed its insatiable hunger for IP, it’s worth noting that when it comes to this type of film, for every “Barbie”-sized smash there’s a “Battleship”-like bomb. With that in mind, here are some of the movies that Mattel has in the works.

Filmmaker Lee Isaac Chung broke out with 2020’s “Minari,” which landed multiple Oscar nominations including two for Chung (Best Director and Best Original Screenplay) and Best Picture. (The film won an Oscar for Yuh-Jung Youn in Best Supporting Actress.) Now, four years later, Chung is back and with an expected follow-up: “Twisters,” a sequel to 1996’s blockbuster hit “Twister.”
Universal debuted the first trailer for “Twisters” during Sunday’s Super Bowl, and the spot immediately spiked online interest in Chung’s first studio picture thanks to the way the spot teases the film’s massive set pieces and star appeal courtesy of Glen Powell. The actor, who helped “Anyone But You” become a sleeper hit and pops off the screen in Netflix’s “Hit Man” (out June 7), plays a storm chaser named Tyler Owens who helps “Twisters” protagonist Kate Cooper (Daisy Edgar-Jones) regain her mojo after a tragedy. Netflix chief content officer Bela Bajaria was a mix of confident and casual on Jan. 31 as she led a very network TV-like presentation to explain why Netflix is nothing like a traditional TV network.
“No entertainment company has tried to program with this ambition — for this many tastes, cultures and languages. Ever,” Bajaria told a few dozen entertainment reporters who gathered Wednesday at the streamer’s Tudum Theater in Hollywood for a TV and film preview event dubbed “Next on Netflix 2024.” She cited the sheer scale of the company’s 260 million worldwide subscriber base as something that can’t be compared to past network TV dynasties.
“We can’t define ourselves narrowly, even though many of you would always like us to. But we can’t. We have to think much more broadly about who’s watching and what they want,” Bajaria said. “The biggest mistakes I see creative...

"Humans are the greatest weakness in any security system." Peacock has revealed an official trailer for a film called Bosco, a prison escape thriller based on a true story. Finally something that might just live up to the classic Escape from Alcatraz! Hopefully. Based on the true story of Quawntay "Bosco" Adams, who also produced the film. Sentenced to 35 years for attempted possession of marijuana, Adams miraculously escaped from a Federal maximum-security prison in 2006 while under 24-hour surveillance in solitary with the help of a woman he met through a lonely-hearts ad. This features a compelling cast including Aubrey Joseph as "Bosco", Nikki Blonsky as "Tammy", Tyrese Gibson as "Tootie", Vivica A. Fox as "Willa", Theo Rossi as "Ramos", and Thomas Jane as "Hunt". Bosco will feature original music from leading hip-hop artists, including Snoop Dogg, French Montana, The Game, Ddg, & more. Looks solid though probably not a new prison escape classic.

Veteran Univision anchor Jorge Ramos has become the latest prominent member of the Hispanic community to criticize the network for its controversial interview with former President Donald Trump, which has been viewed by some as being too friendly.
Writing in a column Saturday on his website, Ramos said Trump’s Nov. 9 sit-down with veteran journalist Enrique Acevedo “put in doubt the independence of our news department, and created discomfort and uncertainty within the newsroom.”
“We cannot normalize behavior that threatens democracy and the Hispanic community, or offer Trump an open microphone to broadcast his falsehoods and conspiracy theories,” Ramos added. “We must question and fact-check everything he says and does. Univision anchor Jorge Ramos doesn’t like the way his network handled an interview with former President Donad Trump.
Ramos criticized the network in a column published Saturday, saying that journalists must continue to question those in power. Ramos is a long-time Trump critic, and his remarks were aimed at a Hispanic audience that some feel may be growing more disillusioned with Democrat policies and may swing what is expected to be another tight presidential election in 2024.

Jorge Ramos, the Univision star anchor who has become as defined by his clashes with the Trump administration as he has by his coverage of major world events, has become the latest of the Spanish-language network’s top anchors to take issue with an interview broadcast by the news division earlier this month with the former President.

Matt Ramos, 22, was just 7 years old when the original “Iron Man” hit theaters. He was not the target audience for the film; nor was his Gen-z responsible for making Marvel and the MCU a cultural and box office behemoth.
But like the “Young Avengers” teased in “The Marvels,” Gen-z are the ones who will make or break the next decade of the MCU.
Today, Ramos has more than 3 million TikTok followers (he’s known there as “Supes”), influencing a passionate fan base consisting primarily of 16-24 year olds. For Ramos and his peers, Marvel fandom is alive and well.
“When the first ‘Iron Man’ came out, it was still not cool to be a Marvel fan. But then by the time ‘Avengers: Endgame’ came out in 2019, it was weird if you weren’t a Marvel fan,” Ramos told IndieWire. “For Marvel fans, there is that essential need. Because when a...

Aaron Eckhart stars in the 2023 crime thriller Muzzle as Jake Rosser, a disgruntled police officer in charge of a K9 dog named Ace. Directed by John Stalberg Jr., the movie runs for 1 hour and 39 minutes and is more-or-less an entertaining watch that explores how people deal with the loss of creatures who are extremely close to them. There aren’t too many movies of this sub-genre, and were it not for a few errors and slightly underwhelming script, this movie would have won many accolades. Here’s a detailed summary and ending of the 2023 crime thriller, Muzzle.
Spoilers Ahead
What Happens To Ace?
Muzzle opens with Officer Jake Rosser driving around the more rundown parts of LA in his car, along with his most trusted companion, Ace, a German shepherd. Jake is a part of the K9 unit, and Ace seems to be his best friend and partner in the line of duty,...

Anthony Ramos has made a name for himself in the entertainment industry, thanks to his major roles as John Laurens and Philip Hamilton in "Hamilton" and Usnavi de la Vega in "In the Heights." Ramos not only rose to fame in 2015 with his breakout roles in Lin-Manuel Miranda's hit Broadway musical, but he also met someone who would change his life along the way. The New York native starred onstage alongside many talented actors, but it was Jasmine Cephas Jones who he'd eventually fall in love with.
Ramos and Cephas Jones - who played Peggy Schuyler and Maria Reynolds in "Hamilton" - started dating in February 2015, and announced their engagement in 2019. However, they broke up after six years together in late 2021. During their time together, Ramos was vocal about how Cephas Jones changed his life. "I think that's a blessing," Ramos told People about how it feels to witness success in "Hamilton" together.

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts triggers a frisson not uncommon to happily mindless franchise movies. It exudes the energy of talented filmmakers trying to wring something creative, unique, or, heaven forbid, human, from a generic template, or trying to sneak just a little bit of flavor into the boxed mix. This palpable effort makes Beasts watchable on a moment-to-moment basis. It has talented actors, Dominique Fishback and Anthony Ramos, doing their best to interact with green-screen concoctions. It has a sense of humor. It has a Nineties hip-hop soundtrack put...

The giant shape-shifting robots are back, in the seventh instalment in the live-action Transformers film series, this time without Michael Bay on board as director. The result is a significant improvement on the previous films, thanks to a script that includes an increased focus on character, dialogue and actual emotion, while still providing plenty of robo-carnage.

Talking about Indian cinema and what does he know about it, pat came the reply from Ramos, who plays the role of Noah in the Steven Caple Jr’s directorial: "It has to be ‘Rrr’."
‘Transformers: Rise of the Beasts’ is the seventh installment in the Transformers live-action film series. It stars Anthony Ramos and Dominique Fishback, as well as the voice talents of Ron Perlman, Peter Dinklage, Michelle Yeoh, Liza Koshy, Michaela Jae Rodriguez, Pete Davidson, Colman Domingo, Cristo Fernandez, Tongayi Chirisa, and returning franchise regulars Peter Cullen, John Dimaggio, and David Sobolov.
‘Transformers: Rise of the Beasts’, which is all set to release on June 9 by Paramount Pictures, has a big scoop of humour mixed with foot-tapping background score.
How much does humour and music help in amping up a film?
Ramos said: "It helps a film lift a film up. Sometimes films can get a little heavy.

When it comes to the Transformers franchise, one tends to grade on a curve: “Well, this one wasn’t as bad as Revenge of the Fallen…” or “That one was a little better than Age of Extinction…” When at least four of the seven films in a franchise are all but unwatchable, damning with low expectations is where we end up.
With the seventh and latest film, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, one might say, “Well, it wasn’t as good as Bumblebee…” but in this case, that doesn’t instantly spell doom. Rise of the Beasts is easily the best movie in the main narrative since the original Transformers in 2007, for which this acts as a prequel of sorts (as well as a sequel to Bumblebee—the series is circling back on itself!). And the lessons learned from the Bumblebee spinoff, the first film in the franchise not weighed...

The Transformers: Rise of the Beasts red carpet in New York City was filled with fans-turned-stars, who grew up watching the movies and playing with the toys, and now found themselves celebrating their parts in bringing these iconic characters to life.

The actor voices Wheeljack, the first Latin Autobot in Transformers history. “I just hope this opens more doors for more Latino talent out there,” the Ted Lasso star added.

Plot: The fate of the Earth, and potentially hundreds of other planets, once again hangs in the balance when an alien beacon in NY grabs the attention of both Autobots and Decepticons to its location. The beacon can either send the Autobots to their home planet or summon the evil Unicron, and the Autobots will need the help of new human friends and the animalistic Maximals to ensure order and peace are once again restored.

The big news about the new Transformers movie (not a sentence I envisioned writing while attending journalism school) is that this seventh installment features the first appearance of the Maximals on the big screen. Whether that information means anything to you or not will determine if you’re the target audience for Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, a de facto sequel to 2018’s Bumblebee that features enough rock ‘em, sock ‘em robot action to thrill the faithful while showcasing appealing performances by Anthony Ramos and Dominique Fishback as the token humans on hand.
The story begins in New York City circa 1994, providing plenty of opportunity for the soundtrack inclusion of classic ‘90s-era hip-hop cuts to complement the thundering score by Jongnic “Jb” Bontemps. We’re introduced to Noah (Ramos, In the Heights), a former Army private and tech wiz trying to make ends meet by setting up illegal cable boxes for his friends.

In the world of action cinema, the Transformers series has always been a cinematic spectacle to behold. Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, the latest in this high-octane franchise, doesn’t stand out amongst the previous films as anything more than a cash grab. The early “Transformers” films — in fact, just about all the “Transformers” films — were two things at once. They were industrial showroom expos of chop-shop magicianship, with cars and trucks and motorcycles turning themselves inside out, their guts flipping as if a trash compactor had exploded into bits and pieces, only to reassemble themselves into towering robots. The spectacle of those gigantic shape-shifting droids is something that I, more than a lot of critics, always found to be fun. But, of course, the “Transformers” movies were also unrestrained pileups of sheer Michael Bay-ness — kiddie diversion on processed steroids. The plots sprawled all over the place yet somehow never mattered; the films went on way too long; the endless clashing titans made you yearn for the human nuance of a “Godzilla” movie.

If you’re a Transformers fan of a certain age, there’s one name in particular sure to conjure a sense of awe and fear: Unicron. No, it’s not some unexpected Covid variant, but one of the deadliest foes in the robots-in-disguise franchise – a Galactus-esque planet-eater who originally menaced the Autobots in 1986’s animated favourite Transformers: The Movie. Now, he’s back to strike fear into our heroes’ metal hearts in live-action in Transformers: Rise Of The Beasts – colliding the post-Bumblebee movie universe with the wild lore of ‘90s animated series Beast Wars, and throwing the biggest of baddies into the mix too. Check out the supersized trailer here.
There’s plenty to unpack there – away from the Unicron devastation, this one centres on Anthony Ramos’s winged Airazor. They arrive into the mythology with a dire warning – and with Unicron looming, there’s much to be worried about.

Paris, April 9 (Ians) Goals from Lionel Messi and Sergio Ramos powered Paris Saint-Germain to a 2-0 victory at Nice to snap their two-match losing streak in French Ligue 1.
The win on late Saturday night also put the 10-time league champions back to six points in front of Lens in the standings, to some degree temporarily easing the pressure on every member in the team, especially head coach Christophe Galtier and superstar Messi.
“It was a difficult match. We knew we had a lot of pressure on our shoulders both because of our poor performances and because of Lens winning, and especially because Nice are a really good team who have been on a great run,” said Galtier, who led Nice to a fifth-place finish last season before taking the rein of the Parisians.

Madrid, Feb 24 (Ians) Paris Saint-Germain’s and former Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos has announced that he is retiring from international football after a record 180 appearances for Spain.
The 36-year-old, who will be 37 in March, published a letter on Thursday night, in which he confirmed he would no longer be available for the Spanish national side — nearly two years after he made his last appearance on March 31, 2021, as a substitute against Kosovo.
Ramos commented that new Spain coach Luis de la Fuente had spoken to him to explain he was no longer in his plans.
“The time has come, the time to say goodbye to the National Team, our dear and exciting Red Shirt (Spain’s colors). This morning I received a call from the current coach (de la Fuente) who told me that he won’t be counting on me, regardless of the level I can show or how I continue my sports career,...

Sydney, Jan 1 (Ians) Daniel Evans booked Team Britain’s spot in the City Final of the ongoing United Cup when he clawed past Team Spain’s Albert Ramos-Vinolas 6-3, 1-6, 6-3, here on Sunday.
Evans entered the match with his nation holding a 2-1 lead in the tie. With the pressure on, the 32-year-old delivered to secure Britain an unassailable 3-1 lead in the tie and top spot in Group D. It will play the winner of Group C in the City Final on Wednesday.
“It is great to qualify Britain for the City Final. It has been amazing to be part of the event up to this point. Watching so much great tennis. Watching the ladies compete so hard, they’ve done so well for our team and got us some big points. Badosa and Dart played an amazing match before me. It is one of the best matches I have watched Harriet play,...

Netflix has opted not to renew new comedy series Blockbuster for a second season.
The decision is not surprising. The single-camera workplace comedy starring Randall Park had a quiet run after launching Nov. 3 and never cracked Netflix’s weekly Top 10.

Netflix’s pickup of the series was full of irony since Netflix originated as an underdog movie rental upstart that was almost crushed by then-dominant giant Blockbuster Video before ultimately turning the tables and forcing Blockbuster out of business.
