Awards season may well be over for another year in the world of film, with the Oscars, BAFTAs, and Golden Globes just a distant memory now. But on Sunday evening, one of the biggest nights in British TV, the BAFTA TV Awards — this year hosted by comedians Rob Beckett and Ramesh Ranganathan — took place at London’s Royal Festival Hall. And on a night where the two most nominated shows, Black Mirror and The Crown, failed to snag a single win, Happy Valley, Top Boy, and The Sixth Commandment enjoyed great success in key categories, each taking home two awards apiece.
On the night, Sarah Lancashire won Leading Actress for her all-timer of a turn as police sergeant Catherine Cawood in Happy Valley, her second BAFTA for the same role. The show also snagged the public-voted Memorable Moment award for Catherine and Tommy Lee Royce’s (James Norton) remarkable final kitchen showdown.

Updated with complete winners list: Despite being up for four acting category awards, The Crown‘s final season left the BAFTA TV Awards empty handed tonight in London.
Elizabeth Debicki, Lesley Manville, Salim Daw and Dominic West were all snubbed, as the the likes of Matthew Macfadyen, Jasmine Jobson, Timothy Spall and Sarah Lancashire all triumphed and the Netflix show went out quietly.
There was also a major surprise in the International category, where little-known French drama Class Act beat the likes of Beef, The Bear and The Last of Us to win the prize. Among the most shocked was the show’s star Laurent Lafitte, who urged the audience to find and watch his show — to the amusement of the audience.

It was a night of surprises at the BAFTA TV Awards, with “The Crown” and “Black Mirror” failing to pick up any awards while “Succession” walked away with only one for Matthew Macfadyen for best supporting actor.
Macfadyen did not attend the awards at London’s Royal Festival Hall, prompting Helena Bonham Carter, who presented the category, to walk off with the iconic gold BAFTA mask with the promise she would get it to Macfadyen.
The international category also saw upset, with frontrunners “Succession,” “Beef” and “The Bear” all failing to win the award. They were instead beaten by little-known French series “Class Act.” It was a fact acknowledged by the show’s shocked lead actor Laurent Lafitte, who, upon accepting the award, told the audience: “Please watch our show. It’s called ‘Class Act,’ it’s quite good — not just because I’m starring in it.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday mourned the demise of ghazal maestro Pankaj Udhas, calling him the “beacon of Indian music”. In his tribute to the departed soul, the Pm said Pankaj Udhas’ death leaves a void in the music world that can never be filled.
Pm Modi shared pictures with Pankaj Udhas, and wrote on X, “We mourn the loss of Pankaj Udhas Ji, whose singing conveyed a range of emotions and whose Ghazals spoke directly to the soul. He was a beacon of Indian music, whose melodies transcended generations.”

This is a must watch movie for all Indians. The narrative is about the abrogation of Article 370 with a brief on what Article 370 is, what it meant, why it remained effective for such a long time and finally the actions taken to abrogate the special status. The story is narrated from the perspective of two fictitious characters who lead the thought of removing the special status of J&k. The reasons narrated through a few episodic sub plots / scenes are the ones we have seen on the national news channels and can relate to the same.
Intelligence agent Zooni Haksar (Yami Gautam Dhar), stationed in Kashmir eliminates a militant named Burhan Wani but gets in trouble for not following the rules. She is transferred to Delhi, where she is engaged in tasks of lesser interest to her. She makes up her mind to give up the forces and take a job.

However, it was not until the abrogation of Article 370 of the Indian Constitution, which gave special status to the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir, that people sat up and took note of the region in the eye of the storm since 1947.

Pain Hustlers is a 2023 drama film directed by David Yates and based on the 2022 book of the same name by Evan Hughes. The film stars Emily Blunt, Chris Evans, Andy García, Catherine O’Hara, Jay Duplass, and Brian d’Arcy James.
A medicine that relieves cancer pain is a good thing, right?
This is where the story of medicine, sales, and a medication containing harmful compounds like fentanyl begins, with prescriptions causing the harm portrayed in the movie.
The film blends drama, comedy, and a lot of rhythm to create a swift, coherent, and entertaining narrative. It doesn’t invent anything, but it still manages to entertain and provoke thoughts about the industry and business behind medicine.
The best part (as expected) is Emily Blunt in a role that seems tailor-made for her.
The major issue with the film is the difficulty in finding a likable character that we can empathize with.

David Yates’s Pain Hustlers puffs itself up as a dynamic epic about the American dream but ends up glorifying some truly grotesque characters. Wells Tower’s script pulls loosely from Evan Hughes’s book about how executives at pharmaceutical company Insys Therapeutics were convicted in 2019 of conspiring to bribe doctors to overprescribe the fentanyl spray Subsys. The story has every ingredient for gripping melodrama: greed, timeliness, money, drugs, death, betrayal, and an Icarus-like fall. Thomas Jennings’s Frontline episode “Opioids, Inc.” and the second part of Alex Gibney’s The Crime of the Century have already turned the sordid tale into powerful, infuriating nonfiction. But in the course of fictionalizing the Insys story, Yates and Tower lose sight of what made it compelling to begin with.
Though ostensibly about the 2010s’ epidemic of synthetic opioid overdoses, Pain Hustlers really hangs its story on the oh-so American grit and determination...

According to filmmaker David Yates, the Fantastic Beasts film franchise is falling under a dark spell. Speaking with Total Film Magazine, the director of the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts said the enchanted spin-off prequel franchise is “parked” after three movies. Initially, the plan involved making five Fantastic Beasts films. However, that no longer appears to be the case.
“With ‘Beasts,’ it’s all just parked,” Yates said. “We made those three movies, the last one through a pandemic, and it was enormous fun but it was tough. We were actually filming when there wasn’t a vaccine. Thankfully, no one got sick, but we did have the most detailed protocols in place.”
The three movies in the Fantastic Beasts film series include Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (2016), The Crimes of Grindelwald (2018), and The Secrets of Dumbledore (2022). While the first film in the series delighted fans, earning $812.5M worldwide,...

If the trailer for Netflix’s Pain Hustlers has a familiar-ish ring, it’s because we’ve seen the topic – a big pharma company making billions off the [hurt] backs of patients – done multiple times before. This outing benefits from a big-name cast and narrowing the focus to one particular employee, played by Emily Blunt.
“I feel like it’s been bucket list name after bucket list name,” stated producer Lawrence Grey. “It is such an incredible cast.”

Netflix’s Pain Hustlers is a largely fictionalized tale of a very real-world and rather eye-opening business: selling an easy fix for what ails us, even if it leads to addiction and death.
Although names have been changed and characters invented (though inspired for some by actual cases and people), the original source material is all too real. Based on a New York Times article by Evan Hughes and then developed as Hughes was turning his research into the book The Hard Sell: Crime and Punishment at an Opioid Start-Up, screenwriter Wells Tower has fashioned a riveting if disturbing scenario brought to life by director David Yates, who was looking for a less fantastical tale to tell other than the Harry Potter movies he was directing. He found it, and also his way in to what might be quite a shocking exposé of just how far into a grift some...

The opioid crisis is a scourge that seemingly no one will ever face any consequences for, and it's all driven by pure, unapologetic greed. To quote the poet Lana Del Rey, money is the reason we exist — and pharmaceutical manufacturers and their salespeople saw a chance to make a killing with opioids. There was money to be made on all different fronts, and seemingly ordinary people got swept up in the lust for cash. And you can almost understand why — it's expensive to live in America. Greed and drugs are at the center of "Pain Hustlers," a new Netflix film starring Emily Blunt and Chris Evans. Based on the non-fiction book by Evan Hughes, the film follows a single mom (Blunt) who becomes a pharmaceutical rep and ends up getting mixed up in a racketeering scheme in the process. All of this makes for what appears to be a very hectic,...

There is something of In Bruges about this Belgium-set tale of whistleblowers in hiding, with a little bit of David Brent
Neil Maskell is the charismatic British actor known for his complex, seriocomic tough-guy performances in the movies of Ben Wheatley and Paul Andrew Williams; now he makes a worthwhile feature debut as writer-director in this diverting if slightly lightweight black-comic sketch about political paranoia, on which Wheatley has an executive producer credit.
Amit Shah and Sura Dohnke play Ewan and Silke, a married couple who are whistleblowers hiding out in Belgium, having revealed a government secret to a newspaper.

From terrifying audiences in Kill List to squaring up to Elba in airline thriller Hijack, the actor has made his name playing a host of wrong’uns. Now he’s leaving the baddies behind to direct a Belgium-based whistleblower drama
If you know Neil Maskell as an actor, you might fancy you’d know him as a film-maker, too. And you’d be right.
