Jug Face was just released to theaters and we were given the opportunity to have actress Lauren Ashley Carter take part in our latest Q&A feature to talk about her role in the movie. Aside from discussing her favorite on-set memory and other Jug Face details, she also talks about her love of horror movies and what’s next:
Thank you for taking the time to talk with us. Can you tell us how you became involved with Jug Face? Was it something you heard about and auditioned for or did they reach out to you specifically for this part?
Lauren Ashley Carter: Thanks for having me! Andrew Van Den Houten and I have worked together previously on two films, Rising Stars and The Woman. He asked me to read the script and tell him what I thought. I called him after I finished and told him I really liked it.

108 Media is not only an international sales agent but works with U.S. Distribution Guru Mark Urman. They recently opened Michel Gondry's The We And The I, the Sundance-prize-winning drama My Brother the Devil, and Deepa Mehta's Midnight’s Children in the U.S.
Now 108 Media has picked up international sales for Jug Face which won the Slamdance Grand Prize for Best Screenplay by Chad Crawford Kinkle in January 2013. When producer Andrew van den Houten stated his confidence that "no stone outside the U.S. market will be left unturned", I wondered (and still am wondering) whether the same is not going to be true within the U.S. Market.
The film was produced by Andrew van den Houten and Robert Tonino for Modernciné, with Lucky McKee, Arrien Schiltkamp, and Loren Semmens serving as Executive Producers. The deal was negotiated by Rastogi and van den Houten. Gravitas Ventures has domestic VOD distribution and the film will be distributed in theaters by Modernciné.
“Working with a company that only takes select films to the international market each year allows for each film to have a unique campaign in finding the right home,” said van den Houten. “Modernciné has always enjoyed being represented by the passion and enthusiasm that people like Mr. Rastogi and his team exude. We look forward to this new collaboration and are confident no stone outside the U.S. market will be left unturned.”
Expanding the slate of films in its international sales operation, 108 Media has acquired the terrifying feature Jug Face, it was announced by 108 CEO Abhi Rastogi. Based on the Slamdance Grand Prize Winning screenplay by Chad Crawford Kinkle, international sales will commence at the Cannes Market this month.
Written and directed by Kinkle, Jug Face thrilled audiences and critics at its Slamdance premiere in January with its dark story of a demonic power worshipped by an isolated rural community. The monster offers health and protection in exchange for human sacrifices, identified when their faces materialize on ceramic jugs fabricated by an entranced potter. Bloody chaos ensues when the newest victim is hidden from the monster. The ensemble cast features Sean Young (Blade Runner), Larry Fessenden (The Last Winter), Lauren Ashley Carter (The Woman, Premium Rush), Daniel Manche (The Girl Next Door), and Sean Bridgers (The Woman, Sweet Home Alabama).
“Chad Kinkle has created a masterfully creepy film with Jug Face,” said Rastogi. “I’m looking forward to introducing his talent and this film to the world and we’ve already started to receive strong interest from multiple buyers in territories spanning the globe.”...

A few weeks back, Image Entertainment released the zombie flick Dead Season on DVD everywhere and to support its home debut, Dread Central had the opportunity to chat with writer/producer/editor Loren Semmens about the project.
Dead Season follows a group of survivors a year after a zombie outbreak to a remote island where things aren't exactly as they seem and the undead running amok may not be the biggest threat to the residents living there. Directed by Adam Deyoe, the film stars Scott Peat, James C. Burns, Marissa Merrill and Corsica Wilson.
Check out our interview with Semmens below and look for Dead Season on DVD shelves now.
Dread Central: Can you start off by telling us how Dead Season came about?
Loren Semmens: Well, the director Adam and I had been friends for a while and we had always wanted to make a zombie film together.

“Dead Season” writer/producer/editor Loren Semmens originally wasn’t going to a write a zombie film when he and “Dead Season” director Adam Deyoe were searching for a place to shoot a completely different film. But the two happened upon the right spot at the right time. “Adam and I traveled to Vieques [part of Puerto Rico], which is the island where we did principal photography. Our goal was to location scout for a different film we were in the process of writing, which was actually a buddy comedy. And when we got Vieques, we realized that these declassified military [sites and chemicals] were the perfect backdrop for something more horror related,” [ Read More ]...

Image Entertainment recently released Dead Season on DVD and I had a chance to talk with the film’s writer/producer Loren Semmens. For those who are unfamiliar with the film, it is a zombie movie that takes place mostly on an island and I had a chance to learn about the difficulties of filming on Vieques, creating a zombie movie on a budget, and the possibility of a sequel:
Thank you for taking the time to talk to us. Can you tell me how this project first came together?
Loren Semmens: Adam (the director) and I had always wanted to make a zombie film together. We took a trip to Vieques, the island where we shot the film, and thought it was a fantastic background for a zombie movie. We figured this was the time to do it and I raised some money. We wrote the script and...

Director: Adam Deyoe. Writers: Adam Deyoe, Joshua Klausner, and Loren Semmens. Cast: James C. Burns, Scott Peat, Marissa Merrill, Corsica Wilson, and Marc L. Fusco. With so many zombie genre films entering the market, this reviewer is wondering if filmmakers are simply trying to capitalize in on the undead craze. Films like The Terror Experiment are simply amateurish and this film added nothing to the genre. Now, Adam Deyoe of Yeti: A Love Story and Psycho Sleepover takes a mediocre stab at this genre from the director's chair. His film, Dead Season, starts from a weak place, a poor script. From here on out, the film feels like amateur hour spent in a tropical paradise. The film begins with the protagonist, Elvis (Scott Peat). He is a lone survivor of a zombie apocalypse. He has a friend who he can talk to on the radio. She is a mysterious figure.

Tagline: "On this island survival is no game." If your zombie survival plan involved finding sanctuary on an island, then Dead Season might make you change your mind. Characters Elvis (Scott Peat) and Tweeter (Marissa Merrill) try this plan when the undead are unleashed across the continental United States. They head for an isolated island in the Caribbean, but here they are enrolled in a fight to stay alive. The residents, already there, only have limited supplies, so Elvis and Tweeter must make themselves welcome with machete and bat. The official DVD artwork is also shown above, in the highest quality version available. Release Date: July 31st, 2012 (DVD). Director: Adam Deyoe. Writers: Joshua Klausner and Loren Semmens. The Woman has generated some controversy based on its misogynistic tones and scenes of torture. Early reviews from major news sources have called the film "an hour and a half of brutal misogyny" (Reporter) and "devoid of wit, flair and thematic focus" (Variety). However, most critics agree that the film is out to shock and there is often an audience for films that will push boundaries. The Woman will premiere in the United Kingdom August 27th and North America October 14th.
Part of the premise for The Woman is this focus on a feral person captured in the wild. Strangely, this is not an uncommon occurrence, with hundreds of stories of feral people being found in jungles and forests locally and abroad. Recently, there was a report of a Cambodian woman found malnourished and partially naked in Rattanakiri Prov. (2007). Her speech was imparied and her ability to socialize was diminished.

The producers of the independent zombie film Dead Season released the trailer today which can be viewed below. "This movie was a real challenge to make, but in a good way," said producer Loren Semmens. "Dead Season is more than a zombie movie. It deals with 'what if' situations in a post-apocalyptic society; realistic decision making that is necessary for survival" Dead Season tells the story of two post-zombie outbreak survivors, Elvis and Tweeter, as they escape America to find a safe haven on a tropical island. Upon arriving, they are forced to deal with a newly formed community that is anything but civil. The film stars James C. Burns, Scott Peat and Marissa Merrill.
