$700 million man Shohei Ohtani made Dodgers manager Dave Roberts wish come true. Only not in the way he expected.
Roberts recently joked that Ohtani should gift him a Porsche when he broke his Dodgers record for most home runs by a Japanese-born player. Roberts was born in Naha, Okinawa, Japan, to a Japanese mother and American father. He hit seven home runs for the Dodgers from 2002 to 2004.
Ohtani surpassed Roberts’ mark on Saturday during the third inning of Saturday’s 11-3 win against the Braves.
But before Friday’s game, anticipating the inevitable, Ohtani gifted Roberts a purple toy model Porsche. in his office. Roberts said the car is sitting on his desk.
“He did buy me a car. I guess I didn’t specify what type of car,” Roberts said before the game. “So I can’t say he never gave me anything.”

HBO has given a pilot order to the comedy “The Chair Company” from Tim Robinson and Zach Kanin, Variety has confirmed.
Both Robinson and Kanin serve as writers and executive producers on the pilot, with Robinson also set to star. Adam McKay and Todd Schulman will also executive produce via Hyperobject Industries, which is under an overall deal at HBO.
The logline for the series states, “After an embarrassing incident at work, a man (Robinson) finds himself investigating a far-reaching conspiracy.”
Kanin and Robinson are frequent collaborators, beginning with their time together on the writing staff of “Saturday Night Live.” They then went on to co-create the popular Comedy Central series “Detroiters” with Sam Richardson and Joe Kelly (with Robinson and Richardson starring) and the Netflix sketch comedy series “I Think You Should Leave” (with Robinson also starring). It’s a big Christmas for Joe Kelly’s wife Ashley!
After campaigning on social media for teammate Shohei Ohtani to sign with her husband’s team and take her husband’s No. 17 jersey, Ashley discovered a Porsche parked outside her home for the holiday.
“It’s yours,” Joe says off-camera in a video posted to social media. “From Shohei, he wanted to gift you a Porsche.”
Keep reading to find out more…
“Shut … up!” Ashley responded.
The gift follows Ashley‘s amusing social media campaign to get the 29-year-old player to sign with the Dodgers.
Shohei played with the Los Angeles Angels for six seasons, wearing the No. 17, the same as Joe.
In her #Ohtake17 campaign, Ashley begged for the star to come to the Dodgers.
In a video one day before it was announced that Shohei had signed a record 10-year, $700 million contract with the Dodgers, the highest deal in MLB history,...

Ashley Kelly is having a December to remember, courtesy of Shohei Ohtani.
The Dodgers’ $700 million man gifted a brand-new Porsche to the wife of teammate Joe Kelly. The gift was a token of thanks for her campaign to bring the free agent to sign with the Dodgers.
“It’s yours. From Shohei,” Ashley Kelly is told in a video posted to social media. “He wanted to gift you a Porsche. I swear.”
The new owner of the silver four-door sports car was stunned.
“Shut the…” she said. She left the rest of the sentence silent.
Ashley Kelly’s viral #Ohtake17 campaign began as she offered her husband’s No. 17 and jokingly changed her seven-month-old’s name from Kai to ShoKai.
She also offered every piece of Kelly No. 17 apparel she owned, including a “Zaddy 17” sweater.

If everything had gone differently, we would have already seen "Madame Web" by now. Yes, though the studios would have you believe it was delays caused by Covid-19, their refusal to give this summer's striking writers and actors a fair deal in a timely manner pushed the lady slinger back off her initial July 7 release date, and then again off an October 6 release. "Madame Web," the latest experiment in Sony's massively successful "Spider-Man" franchise, is now slated for February 16, 2024. That means it will open against the Bob Marley biopic, "One Love," so there should be distinct enough audiences for both films to do well.
There have already been two spinoffs of the core "Spider-Man" films, following the villains Venom and Morbius, to wildly different levels of success. If you count the "Spider-Verse" films as spinoffs, then there's an even higher bar for success that may not be fair...

Topics range from Superman’s appearances in different mediums to the individual actors who’ve played the character, from Superman’s Silver Age to present day iterations, and from the subtleties of capturing the Man of Steel to the tentpole moments of his past 85+ years.

“Ted Lasso” is on track to win its third Emmy in a row for Best Comedy Series, per Gold Derby’s racetrack odds. Apple TV Plus’ feel-good show topped all other laffers this year with a whopping 21 Emmy nominations (see below), just one shy of the comedy record set by “30 Rock” in 2009. Fun fact: if “Ted Lasso” goes on to win trophy #3 this September, it’d be only the seventh comedy in Emmy history to prevail for its first three seasons on the air.
The most recent time this rare feat occurred was for “Modern Family,” which actually won five times consecutively (2010-14). Before that was “30 Rock” (first three seasons in 2007-09), “Frasier” (first five seasons in 1994-98), “Taxi” (first three seasons in 1979-81), “All in the Family” and “The Phil Silvers Show” (first three seasons in 1956-58).

There wasn’t a dry eye in the house among the full cast and crew on the last day of filming Ted Lasso‘s season three. The shot was in the fictional Richmond Fc locker room before its championship game against rival West Ham — and before beloved coach Ted Lasso, played by Jason Sudeikis (who’s nominated for lead actor and writing in addition to comedy series), was scheduled to return to the U.S. Instead of his usual pep talk, Lasso introduces a video, looking back at the team’s growth. “The tears are real,” says Declan Lowney, who directed this episode and eight others during the three seasons of the 11-time Emmy-winning Apple TV+ series. (Its 10 noms this year include nods to most of the talent mentioned in this story.) Famously based on a 2013 NBC Sports promo, Sudeikis’ depiction of an American college football coach who moves to...

Brett Goldstein, who scored a nod for Outstanding Actor In a Comedy Series for Ted Lasso, said:

Emmy voters love a multi-hyphenate. From Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Ricky Gervais to Larry David and Dan and Eugene Levy; when a performer turns their hand to off-screen work and helps tell vital stories as a director, writer, producer, creator, or any combination of the above, voters pay attention.
Waller-Bridge won three Emmys for “Fleabag” in 2019 — for Best Comedy Series, Best Comedy Actress, and Best Comedy Writing. Meanwhile, Dan Levy won four Emmys in 2020 for “Schitt’s Creek,” taking home awards for Best Comedy Supporting Actor, Best Comedy Writing, Best Comedy Directing (shared with Andrew Cividino), and Best Comedy Series. He shared the latter win with his father, Eugene, who also won Best Comedy Actor. It’s a trusted tale that, time and time again, Emmy voters love. But which creatives could reap the rewards of that love this year?

The Season 3 finale of “Ted Lasso” left fans with many burning questions, some of which Emmy Award winner and 2021 acting nominee Brendan Hunt tried to answer last week during a Reddit Ask Me Anything session.
“I’M Here, Baby! Before I launch in – thank you, from all of us who have worked on this show, for your eyes and your emotions and your support,” Hunt, who co-created the show and stars as Coach Beard, wrote on June 1. “We never imagined a tv show about soccer, on a streaming service that didn’t exactly exist yet, could ever have been so fortunate as to have this kind of following. We Appreciate You All.”
One of the bigger dangling threads left behind in the closing moments of the third season finale – much of which plays like a possible series finale – was the status of Beard’s friendship with Ted Lasso himself (Jason Sudeikis...

The question on the mind of all Ted Lasso fans, and some of its stars, is will there be a Season 4 or any spin-offs of the Apple TV+ series.
Brendan Hunt, who plays Coach Beard in the Warner Bros. Television-produced series, is the latest to respond.
“My pat answer, that is also 100% true: We don’t know. We need a break and will take one presently. Nothing has been ruled out, everything is possible; but that includes the possibility that we’re done. We won’t know until we’ve sat with it for a while [and] decompressed,” he wrote on a Reddit Ama session.
The show’s third season ended earlier this week and most people have assumed it was a series finale, as part of a grand plan of three seasons.
[Spoiler Alert]
The season finale – So Long, Farewell – wrapped up things nicely with Jason Sudekis’ titular character heading back to Kansas.

The following post contains spoilers about the “Ted Lasso” Season 3 finale, “So Long, Farewell.”
The third season of “Ted Lasso” came to an end on Wednesday with a season finale that sure felt like a series ender.
As many fans expected, Season 3 of the Emmy Award-winning Apple TV+ comedy series ended with Ted Lasso (Jason Sudeikis) returning back to his Kansas home to be with his son, Henry (Gus Turner). Lasso’s departure meant big changes for the show’s broad supporting cast, including Roy Kent (Brett Goldstein). The former AFC Richmond captain, who in Season 2 embraced his post-retirement role as the team’s assistant coach, was elevated to the team’s manager during a montage of events that showed the near-future fates of numerous characters.

For the record, Hannah Waddingham doesn’t know if Ted Lasso is definitively over either.
“I genuinely don’t know,” Waddingham told The Hollywood Reporter after the Apple TV+ hit’s third season finale debuted, playing very much like a series ender. “That’s what’s kind of unnerving about it, because I’m not ready to say goodbye to Rebecca, or any of them.”
Co-creators and executive producers Jason Sudeikis, Brendan Hunt, Joe Kelly and Bill Lawrence have repeatedly said that they envisioned a three-season arc for Sudeikis’ title character, an American football coach hired to lead English football club AFC Richmond at the behest of team owner Rebecca Welton (Waddingham). The finale ends with Ted returning to the United States to be closer to his son and ex-wife, but also leaves openings for continuing the story in London.

Brett Goldstein channeled his Ted Lasso lovable curmudgeon character Roy Kent at the beginning and end of a farewell Instagram message marking the hit comedy’s Season 3 (and presumed — but never confirmed — series) finale.
“And now the end is here… Whistle!!,” Goldstein opened with, the last part being one of Roy’s signature lines as his metal allergy has prevented him from using an actual whistle.
And, since Roy cannot formulate a thought without at least one F-word, Goldstein ended his note to fans with “It’s been fxxxing wonderful. Let’s go Greyhounds…”
In between, Goldstein, who has won two Emmys for playing Roy and also serves as a writer on the show, reflected on his “truly magical” experience and acknowledged the Ted Lasso writers, cast members and crew, including stars/co-creators/exec producers Jason Sudeikis and Brendan Hunt and co-creators/exec producers Bill Lawrence and Joe Kelly.

During what certainly seems to be the final episode of Ted Lasso, reporter Trent Crimm reads a note Ted has written him regarding Trent’s book about his season with AFC Richmond, which Trent has titled The Lasso Way. “One small suggestion,” Ted writes. “I’d change the title. It’s not about me. It never was.”
The sentiment works as something wholly true to Ted and the philosophy he has espoused over the comedy’s three seasons.

Brett Goldstein is saying goodbye to his journey on “Ted Lasso.” So, does that mean the show is ending?
The actor and writer on the Apple TV+ series took to Instagram on Tuesday, the day of the Season 3 finale’s release, to celebrate his journey as the gruff-but-lovable Roy Kent on the show, and pay tribute to the cast and crew who made the show a “truly magical experience.”
“A show about love, made with love, by the funniest, most beautiful and kindest people on the planet,” Goldstein wrote on his Instagram, alongside a solemn photo of Jason Sudeikis as the titular character. “From all the writers, to every member of the crew to every single actor, no matter how small their part, to all the postproduction team, everyone brought their A-game and their warmth to the making of ‘Ted Lasso.’ I will miss getting to live in that world with them.

[This story contains spoilers from “So Long, Farewell,” the third season — and possible series — finale of Ted Lasso.]
All season long, the people who make Ted Lasso have been somewhat coy about whether the end of their planned three-season arc would mark the end of the series. Jason Sudeikis, Bill Lawrence and others have said multiple times that this season would mark the end of what they set out to do, while never quite stating that it would definitively close out the series.
The last installment of season three, “So Long, Farewell,” played no such games. The episode felt every bit like a series finale, with callbacks to the past and flash-forwards to the futures of several key characters (imagined or not; more on that in a few paragraphs). The fact that Ted Lasso is Apple TV+’s biggest series by far to date might mean that the streamer and Warner Bros. TV, which produces the show, might find a way to make a sequel or spinoff featuring...

Jason Sudeikis and ‘Ted Lasso’ Cast Rally at Warner Bros. Picket Lines Ahead of Show’s Season Finale
The cast and writers crew of Apple TV+’s sports comedy-drama “Ted Lasso” all came to a huddle at Warner Bros. picket lines on Tuesday.
Right after a day off from work, WGA writers hit the field for what is now the WGA’s fifth week of striking, as the WGA continues its fight for better residual pay in streaming, and the closure of the mini-room model, among other items, following a failed negotiation with the AMPTP. The cast and crew of “Ted Lasso” were one of the groups to hit picket lines.
“Much thanks to the gang for taking some time on such a big day to show their support for #wgastrong #tedlasso,” “Ted Lasso” co-creator Brendan Hunt said in an Instagram post.

With rumors swirling that Tuesday’s episode of “Ted Lasso” — its Season 3 finale, titled, “So Long, Farewell” — could actually be its series finale, Kelly Clarkson put Hannah Waddingham in the hot seat to find out exactly what she knew.
Joining “The Kelly Clarkson Show” on the day of the finale, the Emmy-winning star of the beloved Apple TV+ series was asked point blank: “So the season finale of ‘Ted Lasso’ is about to happen, and I’ve heard it might be the end-end. Is it the end-end?”
The short of it? Waddingham doesn’t know — but she doesn’t want it to be.
“Well, I don’t know,” she said. “I mean, Jason says it’s like the end of that three-season arc. I mean, I feel like trapping him in a dungeon with a notepad and a pen and just going, ‘Dude, what are you doing?’ We can’t step away from it.

[This story contains spoilers for “Mom City,” the 11th episode of Ted Lasso’s third season.]
So Ted’s going home, right?
It’s the story Ted Lasso has been building this whole season. Ted (Jason Sudeikis) began his third go-round with AFC Richmond wondering what he’s still doing in London while his son is 4,000-plus miles away, and he hasn’t shaken that feeling even as his midseason, Arthur Bryant’s sauce- and Tex Winter-induced hallucination/brainstorm to switch the team’s tactics led to an insane win streak that’s put the club in striking distance of the Premier League title.
But after clearing some air with his visiting mother (Becky Ann Baker) and beating powerhouse Manchester City for the first time — thanks in large part to Mancunian Jamie (Phil Dunster), whose own parental issues come to the fore as well — the “truth bomb” Ted is about to drop on Rebecca (Hannah Waddingham) as the episode cuts to the end credits could hardly be anything else.

"Ted Lasso" has had a pretty hit-or-miss season so far, but some of its best moments have been small but sweet ones. Whether it's Nate (Nick Mohammed) learning about the cute, geeky origins of his parents' relationship or Danny Rojas (Cristo Fernández) voting to see the tulips in Amsterdam, it's the little touches that have kept me on board through the series' third season. A lot of the show's best little touches unfolded in that Amsterdam-set episode, "Sunflowers," which saw the AFC Richmond squad take a break from football for a night on the town. For Roy (Brett Goldstein) and Jamie (Phil Dunster), that meant a night spent teaching Roy how to ride a bike.
Series co-creator and star Brendan Hunt recently spoke to Uproxx about Roy and Jamie's magical bike-riding moment, and along the way, he revealed that the scene had an unusual inspiration: a bike ride he almost...

‘Ted Lasso’ Creators and Stars on Chances for More Guild Strikes: “I’ve Got Two Hands for Two Signs”
Ted Lasso co-creators and stars Jason Sudeikis and Brendan Hunt took part in the Writers Guild of America picket lines Friday — and told The Hollywood Reporter they’d be ready to strike as actors as well, should the need arise.
“I’ve got two hands for two signs if that’s what we’ve got to do,” said Hunt, who developed the Apple TV+ series with Sudeikis, Bill Lawrence and Joe Kelly and plays Coach Beard onscreen. Added Sudeikis, “That’s what sandwich boards are for.”
Hunt referenced a WGA rally at the Shrine Auditorium on Wednesday night, where writers received words of support from SAG-AFTRA, the Directors Guild of America and other industry unions, to note that the guilds have common ground on things like streaming residuals and the regulation of artificial intelligence. "Ted Lasso"'s Billy Harris knows some fans have been waiting a long time for this. Harris plays Colin Hughes, a Welsh left winger for the shows's fictional AFC Richmond. In the third episode of season two, Colin makes a passing comment about Grindr, which goes unremarked on by the rest of the team. But some fans - especially LGBTQ+ ones - thought the show was laying the seeds before ultimately revealing Colin is queer. And in season three, the show reveals that Colin is gay, though he's still hesitant about coming out publicly. Harris tells Popsugar that he had "so many interactions" with fans about Colin's Grindr line, and he was glad that the show validated their theories this season.
He especially cherishes the sixth episode of this season, where Colin has a heart-to-heart with Trent Crimm (James Lance), who's also queer. Colin is tired of living what he calls two lives,...

It’s the (probable?) last season of “Ted Lasso,” so it makes sense that the show would aim as high as it can. When it comes to music, it makes even more sense that the Season 3 premiere would go after help from Beyoncé.
The first new episode of the Apple TV+ show in 17 months ends with Ted Lasso (Jason Sudeikis) himself finding out that his ex-wife Michelle might have a new boyfriend. The darker, more somber version of the show we last saw in Season 2 might have gone for a moodier ending track. But here, instead, there’s the booming air raid siren that kicks off “Ring the Alarm,” a hit from Beyoncé’s 2006 album “B’Day.”
Finishing things off with that song was a stellar creative touch that came out of a moment of inspiration during Season 3 post-production, namely a conversation between writers and executive producers Joe Kelly, Sudeikis,...

Before "Ted Lasso," Juno Temple was known for dramas. The actress who is now instantly recognizable as model-turned-businesswoman Keeley Jones cut her teeth with roles in movies like "The Other Boleyn Girl," playing Viscountess Jane Boleyn, and the Oscar winner "Atonement," where she took on the role of the victimized teen at the center of a reputation-ruining scandal. Turns in "Magic Mike" and "The Dark Knight Rises" put her on the map, but also didn't particularly scream "comedic actress." So when Temple got the script for "Ted Lasso," she was apparently a little confused.
"I read [the Ted Lasso script] and I thought it was genius," Temple told Marie Claire in a 2021 interview. "But I genuinely thought [Sudeikis] may have thought I was somebody else. Because I'm definitely not known for comedy stuff." Sudeikis, already a friend of Temple's, reportedly texted her asking if she'd like to read the pilot script for the show, which...

Remember when “Ted Lasso” was a sitcom? The show might have included plenty of unexpected pathos and the faster cuts of a single-camera production, but its first season still set up an accessible fish-out-of-water comedy about an optimistic American football coach (Jason Sudeikis), heading to England during a time of personal crisis, to try his hand at soccer. It felt like Apple TV+ took the core of a network-tv project and, using strong characterization and well-chosen swear words, polished it into a streaming gem.
In its third and possibly final season, there are still aspects of “Lasso” that recall network
television — though not always comedy. The first four episodes of its 12-episode season all run around 50 minutes, closer to the length of a brisk network drama than even a supersized-by-streaming sitcom. And now that Ted has become more acclimated to his job and temporary home, the show’s framework is less fish-out-of-water and more back-to-school.

Ted Lasso star Hannah Waddingham lifted up her arms and proudly showed off the bruises she received, not on the soccer field at AFC Richmond, but doing “kick-ass” stunts on David Leitch’s action movie The Fall Guy.
The bruises “are a badge of honor” she boasts.
“You should see the other guy,” she jokes.

Ted Lasso has garnered success and praise in only two seasons. Now the AppleTV show is wrapping up the story in its upcoming third season, and the series star Jason Sudeikis seems somber on its ending, even though it feels right. Sudeikis has spoken with Deadline about the Emmy Award-winning show’s swan song and perhaps some hope for the future of the character.
“I mean, there’s always Cameo, right?” Sudeikis jokes, referring to the personalized celebrity video service. The mustachioed comedy actor then elaborates on why season 3 is the send-off everyone on the show wanted to tell. “This is the end of this story that we wanted to tell, that we were hoping to tell, that we loved to tell. The fact that folks will want more and are curious beyond more than what they don’t even know yet—that being Season 3—it’s flattering. Maybe by...

Jason Sudeikis is not ready to say his Apple TV hit Ted Lasso is ending after season 3, but he does suggest that the upcoming episodes seem to wrap up his Emmy-winning comedy quite nicely.
“I mean, there’s always Cameo, right?” Sudeikis tells Deadline how he could return as Ted one day, via the website that lets you request personalized videos from your favorite actors. “This is the end of this story that we wanted to tell, that we were hoping to tell, that we loved to tell. Believe it: “Ted Lasso” is returning for Season 3 very soon. Apple TV+ released a new trailer for the two-time Outstanding Comedy Series Emmy-winner, which premieres on Wednesday, March 15.
The trailer is very light on dialogue. It’s primarily a montage of images set to the Rolling Stones’ “Ted Lasso”-appropriate classic “You Can’t Always Get What You Want.” We see AFC Richmond’s players and staff returning to the stadium to start a challenging new season, Ted’s protege-turned-nemesis Nate Shelley (Nick Mohammed) drinking alone at his coveted Greek restaurant window seat, and Richmond experiencing the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat.
Then we get the trailer’s two moments of dialogue: sweet Sam Obisanya (Toheeb Jimoh) telling his teammates he loves them, which prompts reformed bad boy Jamie Tartt to end the team’s huddle with a chant on three of “I love you guys so very much.
