"Shrek" was a very important movie in animation history. It provided DreamWorks with its first true breakthrough hit, taking in $492 million in 2001. It ensured that Disney would have meaningful competition in the animation space for years to come, which has only been furthered in recent years with the dominance of Illumination in the marketplace. For DreamWorks though, it birthed what would become the studio's flagship franchise, one that has generated more than $3 billion since its inception. That franchise's biggest moment came in 2004 when "Shrek 2" hit theaters.
The animation house founded by former Disney executive Jeffrey Katzenberg hit a home run by pairing Mike Myers and Eddie Murphy as Shrek and Donkey in the first film, in no small part thanks to the stellar supporting cast.

The fifth episode of X-Men ’97 dropped on Wednesday this week, and it elevated the expectations of Marvel fans all over the world. While we await the return of the mutantkind on the silver screen, the new X-Men animated show is winning hearts and bumping up ratings. Episode 5 is currently being hailed chef-d’œuvre of Marvel animation, and quite rightly so, as it currently sits with a 9.8 rating on IMDb.
Magneto in a still from episode 5 of X-Men ’97
However, despite being renewed for a second season, X-Men ’97 will be missing a crucial element going forward. Beau DeMayo, the showrunner and head writer, was fired by Disney right before Season 1 of the show aired. While the exact reasons are kept under wraps, DeMayo’s firing might’ve been a huge mistake on the studio’s part, considering the heights the Marvel show has reached with every single episode.

There's something to be said for 9-1-1 managing to hit the most absurd comedic beats in one scene and transition directly into the heartfelt the next, and it does not feel quite as unbelievable as it sounds.
9-1-1 Season 7 Episode 5 was an interesting hour, to say the least, with three competing storylines almost fighting for dominance -- some hitting their mark more than others.
This was another heavy character-driven hour, which again, coming off the heels of the three-part extravaganza, felt very earned.
For Hen, 9-1-1 Season 7 has seen her ups and downs (mostly ups), as Interim Captain highlighted, but it hasn't ventured much into her home life.
That changed here as Hen and Karen prepared to bring a newborn into the Wilson household, and you could tell just how joyful and grateful they were as they sat around the Buckley-Han table and perused through hand-me-downs.

Madi Diaz has enlisted singer-actress Lennon Stella for the blissful duet “One Less Question.”
Written by Diaz, Stella, and Kate York, the serene track is overflowing with melody, as Diaz and Stella trade verses across an acoustic guitar that softly builds. “Are we flesh and bone?/Are we just a dream?” Diaz sings. “Are we lost or found?/Or somewhere in between?”
According to Diaz, the song is about how real love requires no wondering. “How it feels when you know in your whole body that this person is in your life to stay,...

It's easy to forget that Blue Bloods is ending.
Blue Bloods Season 14 Episode 2 felt like any other episode of the series. But Jamie and Joe's conflict led to Joe finally understanding something, and Frank's conflict with the mayor was over the future of his job.
Were these baby steps toward wrapping things up before the series finale next fall?
Joe Hill has always been an outsider because he didn't grow up with the Reagans, didn't know his father, and wasn't sure how he felt about them.
When he first came onto the scene, he didn't want a relationship with Frank Reagan or his uncles. He's slowly moved toward that, but more often than not, he's a thorn in Jamie or Danny's side on the job.
In that sense, Joe and Jamie's latest conflict wasn't any different than any other Joe Hill storyline. Joe recklessly infiltrated Jamie's hideout without checking whether Jamie was there,...

Netflix’s Griselda is as much about Griselda Blanco as it is about June Hawkins, the female police officer who played a crucial part in catching the Godmother of Coke in Miami back in the day. In many ways, the show puts the two women in parallel positions, and despite their opposite professions, they face the same sort of problems. While Griselda was trying to make her name in the world of narcotics and drug lords, June was simply trying to do her job in the machismoland of the Miami police department. While in the show, we start with events that take place after 1978. June started as a police officer back in 1975. Not only was she a woman, but she was also a single mother, so you can only imagine the sort of discrimination she faced for simply existing, or at least, that’s how it’s depicted on the show.

A companion piece to her documentary “A Thousand Cuts,” Ramona S. Diaz’s “And So It Begins” follows the 2022 Philippine election, and Vice President Leni Robredo’s run for office. The film lays out the broad strokes of the country’s contemporary politics in the wake of strongman President Rodrigo Duterte, while capturing the groundswell of support for Robredo. However, it features neither the narrative and aesthetic intensity needed for an up-to-the-minute chronicle, nor the political depth required of such vital subject matter, which Diaz’s previous work has in spades.
After a contentious vice presidency — she was elected on a separate ticket from Duterte, as is common in the Philippines — Robredo’s campaign kicks off with grassroots activism awash in pink apparel, often on a scale so large that overhead shots of her rallies barely fit within the frame. With political experience and a moving personal narrative at her back,...

When season two of Gloria Calderón Kellett's "With Love" series dropped on Amazon Prime earlier this month, with it came many juicy romance storylines. While the show does a beautiful job of portraying the joy within Latine love stories, there's still drama. This season explores the complexities that can come when two people love each other but don't necessarily want the same things.
Take the complicated love triangle between Lily Diaz (played by Emeraude Toubia), Nick Zhao (Desmond Chiam), and Santiago Zayas (Rome Flynn). We witness Lily being pursued by two love interests, unsure of who she ultimately wants to be with.
Related: How Emeraude Toubia Used Her Real-Life Divorce in Her "With Love" Season 2 Role
Lily and Santiago couldn't be more opposite, especially when it comes to their views on relationships. But for the longest time, they thought their love for each other was enough to overcome their incompatibilities.

“Being on ‘Primo’ is a blessing,” assures Carlos Santos, who plays Ryan on the eight-episode Amazon Freevee comedy. “My imposter syndrome is at its lowest. Very manageable.” As he says the words, Santos’s co-stars on “Primo” Henry Esteve (who plays Mike) and Johnny Rey Diaz nod in understanding. The trio represent three of the five uncles on the series who surround Rafa Gonzales (played by Ignacio Diaz-Silverio), a 16-year-old high school junior who carries the hopes and dreams of his extended Latinx family in San Antonio, Texas. The uncles regularly dispense loving guidance (read: unsolicited advice) to young Rafa, and the actors who play them believe they’ve died and gone to performance heaven to be on a series that afford them such a positive, supportive environment in which to work. “It’s hands-down the most collaborative and beautiful experience I’ve ever had on a set,” Diaz agrees.

After the mind-numbingly frustrating Bayverse Transformers movie franchise ran its course through exactly a decade, the first movie of the prequel series Bumblebee presented itself as a much-needed breath of fresh air by engaging with the more grounded aspects of human-Cybertronian interactions. Its much-anticipated sequel, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, has been released worldwide and, from the looks of it, has done a decent job of expanding the world-building in a cohesive manner, at the cost of the previous flick’s grounded nature.
Even after being surrounded by big summer blockbuster releases, expectations with this entry were high because of the lore exploration through the introduction of beloved key factions like Maximals, something that long-time franchise fans were waiting to see in live action. And even though their appearance was somewhat limited in the second half, enough plot points have been provided to speculate on the possible course to be taken in future ventures.

Amazon Prime’s 2021 release With Love sets the perfect mood for love with its heart-melting plot and visually aesthetic cinematography. With Love takes viewers on a delightful journey, creating a story about the transformational power of love and the lasting relationships it forges. While many stories of romance and relationships focus on the art of letting go, With Love gracefully diverges from this well-trodden path. Instead, it skillfully deals with the complexities of love, demonstrating how two individuals can overcome obstacles and grow together, refusing to leave each other.

American Idol might have crowned a new champion this week, but former winner, Samantha “Just Sam” Diaz, is back busking in New York City subways. Diaz, who won the ABC competition series in Season 18, shared several videos of herself singing in subway stations on Instagram and is now opening up about her life post-Idol, noting that she was “super embarrassed” to admit her return to busking. “Back in 2021, I was super embarrassed to be going back to the trains. I didn’t want people to know that I legit needed the money and I didn’t want people to know that it wasn’t optional,” Diaz said in a now-deleted post, according to The Sun. “I was disappointed in myself for allowing myself to fall so low after winning Idol, but then I had to take it easy on me and remember that I started my journey with Idol at 20 years old.

New Delhi, May 23 (Ians) Many patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (Copd) experience airway-clogging mucus plugs, an accumulation of mucus in the lungs that can affect quality of life and lung functioning. Now, a new study has found that mucus plugs are also associated with greater mortality in Copd patients.
A retrospective analysis of patient data from the COPDGene study led by researchers from Brigham and Women’s Hospital in the US suggests that targeting mucus plugs could help prevent deaths from Copd.
“As a chronic disease, Copd can’t be cured, but our findings suggest that using therapies to break up these mucus plugs could help improve outcomes for Copd patients, which is the next best thing,” said Alejandro A Diaz, associate scientist in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the Brigham.
The findings, published in Jama and presented simultaneously at the American Thoracic Society 2023 International Conference,...

Rome, April 3 (Ians) A highly-anticipated Serie A clash turned out to be a lop-sided one, as AC Milan beat Napoli 4-0 away, inflicting the Partenopei’s heaviest defeat this season.
Napoli are flying high this season, just conceding two Serie A defeats before Sunday’s match, while Milan had struggled with only one point from the previous three matches, reports Xinhua.
With only 40 percent ball-possession, Milan were more clinical as they broke the deadlock in the 17th minute when Rafael Leao broke clear after latching on to Brahim Diaz’s inspirational pass, before the Portuguese looped it over an on-rushing Alex Meret.
The away side doubled the lead minutes later when Diaz found the net.
Milan extended the lead on the hour mark with a moment of magic when Sandro Tonali won back possession and found Leao, who out-paced the defenders to finish with an angled drive.
