Ed Koch's timing failed him, on occasion. The New York mayor was very late reacting to the AIDS crisis and overstayed his welcome in City Hall.
And he died in February, at age 88, just before Neil Barsky's entertaining, image-burnishing documentary appreciation for his career, "Koch," opened.
"How'm I doing?" he asked constituents during his first mayoral campaign, and all through his tenure in office (1978-1989). "Koch" does a pretty good job of answering that question.
Non-New Yorkers won't remember that he was a three-term congressman and a World War II combat vet. And even New Yorkers, with no sense of history, might have forgotten what he did to make the city livable and worth visiting by tourists, two features it had lost by the middle of the '70s.
Urban blight, crime and a Times Square that was only a "Crossroads of the World" for those who liked porn movies,...

A spokesperson for the New York nightclub W.i.P. told MTV News on Friday (June 15) that club management had turned over to police investigators video footage of the melee between the entourages of Chris Brown and Drake. An NYPD spokesperson confirmed that the videotape had been turned over and that police were reviewing it as part of their investigation.
At press time the police would not give any further details about the findings, but TMZ reported earlier in the day that Brown had given a statement to police and that his lawyer had handed over unspecified "physical evidence" that allegedly implicates Drake in the fight. Drake's reps had also reportedly spoken to investigators, but the NYPD spokesperson declined to specify who had come forward so far, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation.

Robin Gibb of the Bee Gees has lost his battle with cancer and passed away at the age of 62. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.
John Fiala, a former priest who abused a 16-year-old boy while pretending to drive him to his girlfriend's home, then hiring a hit man to kill the boy ,has been sentenced to 60 years in prison. He'll be eligible for parole in 15 years.
Back when DC Comics was preparing to relaunch their 52 main titles, they told The Advocate that they wouldn't be making any existing characters gay, but would be creating new Glbt characters. At Kapow this weekend, they announced a change, saying that one of the relaunched titles would feature an existing character as gay who was previously straight, who will now be “one of our most prominent gay characters.” Any guesses?
NBA player Dominique Jones is allegedly caught up in an anti-gay Facebook rant.
