Development continues on a "Barbarella" TV series that landed at Amazon Studios, with a script written by writers Neal Purvis and Robert Wade of "Skyfall" fame. Plus take a look at Dynamite Entertainment's "Barbarella" #9, available August 22, 2018, written by Mike Carey and illustrated by Kenan Yarar, with covers by Dave Bullock, Scott Chantler, Eion Marron, Anthony Marques and Yarar:
"...'Barbarella' has been lied to. Worse, she's been weaponized, and someone's going to answer for that...
"...assuming she survives the judgement of the 'Esseverine' sun-giants...
"...and an armada of a thousand ships..."
"Drive" director Nicolas Winding Refn directed the pilot adapting creator Jean-Claude Forest's erotic sci-fi comic strip.
"I kind of went back to the original comic," said Refn "and really began to close my eyes and fantasize about women in outer space and it looked pretty good."

In mid-September, Kanye West found himself at the center of yet another celebrity feud when his protégé, Kid Cudi, took to Twitter to share his new thoughts on Kanye and Drake. "These n*ggas don't give a f*ck about me," he wrote. "And they ain't f*ckin with me. I've been loyal to those who haven't been to me and that ends now. Now I'm your threat." When Kanye got word of Kid Cudi's rant, he stopped his show in Tampa, Fl, to address the issue, admitting he felt "so hurt" and "so disrespected" by the rapper's comments. "Kid Cudi, don't ever mention 'Ye name," he said on stage. "I birthed you. We all dealing with that emo sh*t all the time - me, Pat, Don C. Don't ever mention 'Ye name. Don't try to say who I can do songs with. You mad 'cause I'm doing songs with Drake?...

Last Wednesday, Kanye West took offense to some less-than-complimentary words Kid Cudi had tweeted about him. Never one to bite his tongue, the "Famous" rapper fired back at Cudi in the middle of a concert in Tampa, Florida that night. "Kid Cudi, don't ever mention 'Ye name. I birthed you," West, 39, said from the stage. "We all dealing with that emo s--- all the time – me, Pat, Don C. Don't ever mention 'Ye name. Don't try to say who I can do songs with. You mad 'cause I'm doing songs with Drake? Ain't nobody telling 'Ye who to do songs with!

This is the time of year when the ComicMix crew starts to firm up our attendance at various comic conventions in the year ahead. It’s a frustrating process because there are a lot of shows and we can’t go to all the ones we’d like to attend.
It also makes me really angry.
Last year was the first in a long time that I went to a bunch of cons. It was fascinating and fun most of the time, but annoying at others. Twenty years after we started Friends of Lulu, there are still remarkably few women invited to be guests at the shows.
This is odd, because there are a lot of women working in the industry, and (capitalists take note) even more buying comics and tickets to cons. Wouldn’t show organizers like to demonstrate to this market segment that they are welcome and valued?...

With 2009 coming to a close, the challenge was to pick and rank the 10 best comics from the entire year. I’ve estimated reading approximately 1,500+ issues over that time frame, so obviously it wasn’t the easiest task to complete. Still, after much deliberation, these are my picks for the 10 best comics of 2009.
1. Jonah Hex #50
DC Comics
Writers: Justin Gray, Jimmy Palmiotti
Artist: Darwyn Cooke

Perfection. Defined as the highest degree of proficiency, skill or excellence, perfection is near impossible to achieve, especially when every comic ever printed is subjective in nature. You know, “beauty is in the eye of the beholder” and all that jazz. Still, when I thought about all the comics I’ve read this past year, this issue of Jonah Hex kept coming back to me. While not perfect (frankly, what is?), it’s pretty close.

Marvel’s Digital Comics will begin original material for the first time, with two strips based on this year’s movies, Iron Man and Incredible Hulk. In fact, the content will be based on the film versions not the comic book continuities so as to appeal to a wider audience. The stories will run weekly, with new installments showing up on Wednesday, the traditional “new comic day”.
Iron Man: Fast Friends, starting tomorrow, is said to focus on the relationship between Tony Stark and Jim Rhodes. It’s written by Paul Tobin, with art by Ronan Cliquet and covers by Dave Bullock.
Incredible Hulk: The Fury Files, launching October 8, will feature Nick Fury investigating Bruce Banner. It’s written by Frank Tieri, with art by Salva Espin and covers by Steve Lieber.
Both strips are timed to the impending DVD releases of the films with Iron Man due September...
