John Cameron Mitchell has released “New American Dream,” the wacky title track to his new benefit album out on Friday.
Directed by Matthew Zanfagna, the video opens with Mitchell laying on the grass swaddled in an American flag. Later, hilarious animation shows Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell eating President Trump. “Thus the diseased body will pass/through Mitch’s gut,” Mitchell sings. “And resolve itself into a stew/a kind of vile fondue.”

Neutral Milk Hotel is finally hitting the road again: Jeff Mangum, Jeremy Barnes, Scott Spillane and Julian Koster announced Monday that the indie rock outfit will tour for the first time in 15 years.
News of Neutral Milk Hotel's reunion tour is sure to be met with joy, as the group continues to be one of indie's most enduring acts. They're touring with Elf Power, Half Japanese and Daniel Johnson on select dates.
The tour starts on Oct. 22 in Athens, Georgia and sees the band heading to North Carolina, Taipei and Tokyo over a two-month period. More dates are sure to be added, though, so don't fret if your township wasn't among those blessed by the original list of five dates.
"A portion of the proceeds" from the tour and sales of Neutral Milk Hotel box sets are being donated to Children of the Blue Sky "and others in need," the band's website read.

Intrepid sonic explorer sets sail atop trusty 4-track, searching for meaning in the face of affliction
Like most projects involving Olivia Tremor Control co-founder Will Cullen Hart, Signal Morning is an epic, challenging, noisy psychedelic opus of the highest order. The first music he’s released since 2001’s self-titled Circulatory System, this new collage of sound and song—featuring Neutral Milk Hotel’s Jeff Mangum and Julian Koster, and members of Otc—contains snippets of material dating back to the early ’90s: bits and pieces of aging 4-track cassettes expertly manipulated and blended with material Hart has written over the last decade.
