The Black Keys are ready for Valentine’s Day (or, more accurately, the Day After Valentine’s Day) with their cover of William Bell’s “I Forgot to Be Your Lover.” The two-and-a-half–minute apology recreates the song faithfully (and “faithful” goes a long way, as the Keys’ lovers will remind them), evoking the soulful regret Bell originally sang for recognizing he had become an inattentive, self-absorbed oaf.
The song finds Dan Auerbach plucking doleful chords and crooning through orchestral strings words like “Oh, I forgot to be your lover/And I’m sorry,...

The Black Keys are back with “I Forgot to Be Your Lover,” the latest single from their forthcoming new album, Ohio Players.
Written by William Bell and Booker T. Jones — and first released by Bell as a single in 1968 — “I Forgot to Be Your Lover” is an ideal song for The Black Keys treatment, giving the duo an opportunity to show off their knack for mid-tempo, bluesy soul. Built around a foundation of guitars and a classic Patrick Carney groove, the arrangement is garnished with organ padding and silky strings.
With a sultry touch, the impassioned cover arrives, as the band’s posts on social media explain, “just in time for Valentines.” Watch the official lyric video below.
Following the release of “Beautiful People (Stay High)” last month, “I Forgot to Be Your Lover” is the second single from Ohio Players, which itself is set to arrive on April 5th via Nonesuch/Warner Records.

Michelle Branch is doing just fine. In a deft display of rock’n’roll multitasking, the US singer-songwriter behind early Noughties hits like “All You Wanted” and “Goodbye to You” is signing an endless stack of CDs in a Nashville warehouse at the same time as speaking to me. And while prepping for her first headline tour since the pandemic. And while navigating the past month’s occasionally salacious headlines surrounding her marriage to Black Keys drummer Patrick Carney. When we talk, a split is on the cards due to Carney’s apparent infidelity. In mid-August, Branch called out Carney – and his alleged lover – on social media, before being arrested for slapping him. Charges against her were later dropped, and the couple announced their separation. A week after we speak, though, the status of the couple’s marriage looks markedly different: divorce proceedings have been suspended for six months, as...

Michelle Branch says she's going through a difficult time in her personal life. The "Everywhere" singer took to Twitter on Aug. 10 to accuse her husband of three years, Patrick Carney, of cheating on her while she was "home with our 6 month old daughter," per her since-deleted tweet. As for how Michelle is coping with the alleged situation, the 40-year-old touched on her feelings in a statement to E! News through her rep. "To say that I am totally devasted doesn't even come close to describing how I feel for myself and for my family," she shared. "The rug has been completely pulled from underneath me and now I must figure out how to move forward." She...

“BoJack Horseman” creator Raphael Bob-Waksberg is about midway through the making of a new season of his critically acclaimed comedy, but he also isn’t exactly sure how he feels about it.
“Let me ask you this about art,” he said to IndieWire. “This is something I really go back and forth on a lot, and in the show we kind of go back and forth with this a lot: Do you think art is good? You know what I mean? Are we in ‘Cabaret’ right now and we’re like, distracting ourselves?”
The question came during an open and honest conversation about Season 3 of the show, Bob-Waksberg’s personal reaction to America’s changing political climate and even a little bit about the in-progress Season 4.

Musical duo Tegan and Sara released the music video for their track “Hang on to the Night,” which might catch the eye of “Bojack Horseman” fans. The two rock some major similarities – especially since the star of the clip is an animated horse – and that’s because the clip was directed and illustrated by Lisa Hanawalt, production designer and producer for the Netflix comedy.
The singing-songwriting sisters reached out to Hanawalt and entrusted her with the creative direction for the video. “When [Lisa] sent me her drawings, I already felt very realized, as if she saw me,” Sara told Nylon. The song was a response to a number of sudden deaths in the sibling’s family and their anxiety about morality. The video explores, both literally and figuratively, the “regenerative” aspect of the night. “If you can manage to hang on, you can face another day,” Sara added.

A minute-long fast track through the self-destructive world of the main character, the opening credits get an iconic kick from its theme, a jazzy composition from “The Black Keys” drummer Patrick Carney that captures the core of BoJack’s hard-partying delirium.

For Alison Mosshart and company, the visit marked the band's first live performance in over five years, with their last appearance being an August 2010 episode of Late Show With David Letterman.

Consisting of guitarist/vocalist Dan Auerbach and drummer Patrick Carney, you may know The Black Keys as “that band that ripped off The White Stripes”, or perhaps “The Black Eyed Peas” if you caught a certain epic blunder on the part of MTV.
In fact, the rock ‘n’ roll duo from Akron, Ohio have been breathing new life into garage rock and blues since 2001, amassing a very healthy list of hit albums to their name with each one more lo-fi and raunchy than the next. They’ve managed to annoy a good amount of people along the way, but fans of the band include familiar faces as diverse as Led Zep frontman Robert Plant and actress Charlize Theron.
Those two alone are some pretty special endorsements, just don’t ask Jack White or Sean Parker for their opinions.

Even if you haven’t yet watched a single minute of “Bojack Horseman,” a newish original animated series from Netflix, you must watch the opening credits: The animation may be a little rudimentary (more on that later), but as soon as that theme, written by The Black Keys’ Patrick Carney (also featuring his uncle Ralph), kicks in with its whirling mix of horns, synths and drums, while the camera moves like a Michael Bay joint soaking in the time-lapse, sun-draped La hills around the titular character’s modern/dated house, you know there’s something different to this show. Though it may feel at times, especially in the first few episodes, like “Bojack Horseman” is yet another bizarre, random, pop culture obsessed cartoon in the vein of Seth MacFarlane’s increasingly dull work—some early attempts at jokes stretched far beyond their effectiveness—it quickly proves to be an entry...

Jack White issued a public apology after bashing the Black Keys and accusing them of ripping off his sound in an interview with Rolling Stone.
Jack White Slams The Black Keys
White, most famously of The White Stripes, was never a fan of the Black Keys, and his original dislike for the band was made public when emails White had written about the band were leaked to the press in 2013. White was going through a divorce at the time, and the emails were rumored to have been leaked by his now ex-wife Karen Elson. Patrick Carney, Black Keys drummer, forgave White in the press, and the band moved on. However, in a new interview with Rolling Stone, White expanded on his belief that the Black Keys copied his musical style, essentially accusing them of ripping him off.

First, for those who forgot what Jack White's beef with the Black Keys is about: Last summer, TMZ obtained an email White sent to his ex-wife, Karen Elson, demanding that their kids be taken out of the Nashville private school they attend with the kids of the Black Keys' Dan Auerbach. According to White, the situation gave Auerbach "yet another free reign to follow me around and copy me and push himself into my world." Earlier this month, Auerbach said that he "didn't know" White and found his anger "extra-unexpected," while Black Keys drummer Patrick Carney said that he "actually [feels] embarrassed" for White. Now, rather than let the whole thing die, White has once again insulted the band, this time in an interview with Rolling Stone. "There are kids at school who dress like everybody else, because they don't know what to do, and there are musicians like that,...

Last summer, TMZ acquired private emails from Jack White that were included as part of a restraining order filed by his ex-wife, Karen Elson. In them, White asks Elson to take their kids out of a Nashville private school because the kids of the Black Keys' Dan Auerbach were also there, writing, "He gets yet another free reign to follow me around and copy me and push himself into my world." Talking to Rolling Stone recently, Auerbach said he was surprised. "I don't know him, so it's extra-unexpected," is as far as Auerbach would comment on the matter. The other Black Key, the band's drummer, Patrick Carney, took it a little further, however. He first acknowledges that White "sounds like an asshole," but says that more than anything, he "actually [feels] embarrassed for him." "We've all said fucked-up shit in private, and divorce is hard," Carney told Rolling Stone, blaming...

While recent host Seth Rogen took nearly five years to return to “Saturday Night Live,” Charlize Theron makes that period look downright short by comparison. Her one and only other hosting gig took place in November 2000, making tonight’s return thirteen and a half years in the making. (To be fair, filming “Aeon Flux” took a lot out of everyone involved with that production, so we can’t fault her too much.) While preferring dramas to comedies in terms of her film choices, Theron does have “A Million Ways To Die In The West” on the way to your local movie theatre. Pairing her with Seth MacFarlane in that film might seem strange, but that’s probably precisely the point. That film sure looks a long way from "Monster" and "North Country." So maybe we’ll see a different performer than the one that graced Studio 8H at the turn of the century.
