Every week, IndieWire asks a select handful of TV critics two questions and publishes the results on Tuesday. (The answer to the second, “What is the best show currently on TV?” can be found at the end of this post.)
This week’s question: Who is the scariest serial killer on TV? You define “scary.” Old and current shows fair game.
Daniel Fienberg (@TheFienPrint), The Hollywood Reporter
Landry from “Friday Night Lights.”
Damian Holbrook (@damianholbrook), TV Guide Magazine
Ok, so he wasn’t necessarily a serial killer, but “Nip/Tuck’s” The Carver gave me a serious case of the scareds. After his first appearance near the end of Season 2, the porcelain-masked serial-slashing maniac who was all about slicing up hot people (because “beauty is a curse,” of course!) ran amok in Season 3 and the amount of series-regular characters he went after was kind of unprecedented. All of the leads...

One of the most bizarre reveals of the Harvey Weinstein scandal was that the mogul believed that being fired from The Weinstein Company as a result of sexual assault allegations represented a violation of his rights. In the email he sent to would-be Hollywood allies, he wrote: “We believe what the board is trying to do is not only wrong but might be illegal and would destroy the company.” On Oct. 10, he hired attorney Patty Glaser specifically to negotiate with TWC — rather than defend him against the scores of women who accused him of sexual harassment and rape.
In what realm would a company be prohibited from terminating an alleged serial sexual predator? The answer may lie in Weinstein’s employment contract. According to TMZ, Weinstein’s most recent TWC employment contract stated that if he ever “treated someone improperly in violation of the company’s Code of Conduct,” he...

Harvey Weinstein may have been fired illegally by The Weinstein Company, a company that wrote a contract that said Weinstein could get sued over and over for sexual harassment and as long as he shelled out money, that was good enough for the Company. TMZ is privy to Weinstein's 2015 employment contract, which says if he gets sued for sexual harassment or any other "misconduct" that results in a settlement or judgment against TWC, all Weinstein...

Stars: David F. Friedman, Elmo Lavino, Kay Parker, Colleen Brennan, Herschel Savage, Angel, Jesie St. James, John Leslie, Laurie Smith, Tigr | Written by David F. Friedman | Directed by Henri Pachard
There have been plenty of volatile co-star rivalries in the world of cinema; Bette Davis and Joan Crawford, Sophia Loren and Jayne Mansfield, Gene Kelly and Debbie Reynolds… The list goes on. None are more notorious however than Linda Hand (Jesie St. James) and Lance Hardy (John Leslie). The pair are the hottest thing in the world of dirty pictures, but their egos are getting the better of them.
It comes to the boiling point when after a little spat before shooting a scene, Linda literally shows that her bite is much worse than her bark. The pair both storm off set vowing never to work with each other again! Understandably annoyed, legendary producers Bernard Kuntz (David F. Friedman) and...

This week on The CW’s Arrow, it was a nuclear family affair when Felicity recruited her criminal father to help thwart Damien Darhk’s annihilation of (most of) mankind.
PhotosArrow’s Katie Cassidy Makes Some Noise as Flash‘s Black Siren
Having seized possession of the Rubicon algorithm (which as Felicity notes was a very bad idea to create in the first place), Darhk uses it to arm and initiate launch sequences for nuclear missiles from every Nato ally. Knowing that with every death, Darhk will become that much more powered/unstoppable, Felicity seeks out her super-hacker dad,...

If "Arrow" had an alternate name, it would be called "Resurrection", or at least "All Hail the Lazarus Pit". I say this — mostly in jest — because "Arrow" is bring another character back from the dead this week in the episode titled "Brotherhood". While Thea (Willa Holland) and Sara (Caity Lotz) needed the help of the Lazarus Pit to bring them back, this character doesn't need magic, he needs discovery. Much like Ray Palmer (Brandon Routh), who was thought to be dead until Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) and Curtis (Echo Kellum) discovered his message, this character was also only presumed dead. Who is this mysterious character, now returning to the land of the living? Andrew Diggle, John Diggle's believed-to-be-dead brother. Andy is played by Eugene Byrd, whose acting credits include "Bones", "8 Mile", "Heroes", and previous flashback episodes of "Arrow". According to John Diggle (David Ramsey), Andy was killed by Deadshot (Michael Rowe...

Last night’s Arrow was a pivotal episode for the series, as Laurel and Malcom resurrected Sara Lance (Caity Lotz), using the Lazarus Pit at Nanda Parbat. However, Sara, who unlike Thea, wasn’t dying but fully dead, awakened from the Pit with no semblance of her former self. All that was present in Sara, as she rose from the waters, was rage and a thirst for violence, and there’s no sign that will be going away anytime soon. In these photos from next week’s episode of Arrow, “Beyond Redemption,” Laurel will have to deal with the consequences of bringing her sister back to life at Nanda Parabt, as she chains Sara up and does her best to help her remember who she used to be. And unlike last season, when she kept Sara’s death a secret from Quentin, Laurel will be completely honest with her father about Sara’s return,...

The Real Coke
"Zombieland" and "Deadpool" scribes Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese are reportedly penning a feature about the disastrous launch of New Coke thirty years ago. The drink attempted to adjust classic Coke's secret formula for a younger generation - it performed so badly it threatened the original soft drink's market leadership.
The scribes have optioned the Thomas Oliver book "The Real Coke, The Real Story" and will pen this 1980s period piece which will also deal with how No. 2 rival Pepsi launched the 'Pepsi Challenge' that led to corporate panic at Coke. [Source: Deadline]
The Dukes Of Oxy
Angel Elgort is being lined up to star in a film version about the Rolling Stone article "Dukes Of Oxy" at New Line. The article deals with a pair of teen high school wrestlers from Florida who built a multimillion-dollar business smuggling OxyContin and other painkillers.

Admittedly, death has never been too high-stakes on Arrow. The show’s entire premise stems from Oliver Queen’s unexpected reappearance five years after “drowning” in the North China Sea. Other characters follow suit in that regard: Malcolm Merlyn, Slade Wilson, Deadshot, and even Felicity’s ex, Cooper, each get “Surprise!” resurrected. (Shado, Moira Queen, and Sara Lance, at least the second time around, do not fare as well. What’s a girl gotta do to come back from the dead around here?) That Arrow employs this plot device often shouldn’t be unexpected, as coming back to life is a common comic-book trope.Save for Oliver’s reemergence in the pilot episode, the return of these presumed-dead characters, all villains, were surprise plot-twists meant to leave the audience with dropped jaws and freaked-out tweets. This time, with Oliver Resurrection: Part Deux, for once, we’re in on the surprise.

The legendary movie palace The Redford Theatre in Detroit presents a Three Stooges film festival this weekend. Here is the press release:
It’s October and Halloween is only a few weeks away. What better way to start getting ready for that scary holiday than a “Three Stooges Horror Festival”? Join us this weekend for a few frights and loads of hilarity as the Stooges roll through six of their spookiest shorts. “Mummy's Dummies” finds the boys selling used chariots in ancient Egypt (and not quite on the up and up). Soon they find themselves appearing in front of King Rootentootin, (a large and rotund Vernon Dent). Hilarity follows. Strangely, in another one of our features, “We Want Our Mummy”, we find the Stooges back in Egypt several centuries later, looking for the mummy of that same King Rootentootin — who is discovered to be a midget. Go figure. That latter...

The Skeleton Twins
Written by Craig Johnson and Mark Heyman
Directed by Craig Johnson
USA, 2014
With acclaimed runs as featured players on Saturday Night Live under their belts, Bill Hader and Kristen Wiig have now made a successful foray into drama. In Craig Johnson’s The Skeleton Twins, the renowned comedians play the titular siblings who, after both cheating death on the same day, try to reconnect and confront the dark family history that led to their suicide attempts.
Co-written by Johnson and fellow Nyu grad film alum Mark Heyman (who was famously poached from class by Darren Aronofsky and went on to pen Black Swan; their other classmate was Cary Fukunaga of True Detective) while the two were still students, this long dormant project epitomizes the type of modestly-budgeted, adult-targeted films that rarely get made, and only when headlined by big names. Though dark in subject matter, dealing with identity crisis,...

The unloved films of 2009 provide the focus in our final list of the 2000s' overlooked greats...
The year 2009 will partly be remembered as the year Avatar dominating the box office, with audiences flocking to see James Cameron's leafy pulp epic in shimmering 3D. Making almost $2.8bn worldwide, Avatar was a true behemoth, besting Cameron's own Titanic as the highest-grossing film of all time (not adjusted for inflation) and hastening a rush of 3D films in the years that followed.
Films such as 2012, Sherlock Holmes and boozy comedy The Hangover were also among the top 10, but as always, some of the most memorable and individual films of the year were far from the most financially successful. So to round off our series of underrated flicks of the 2000s, here's our selection of 2009's overlooked films...

A giant snake that likes miniature golf. A god who's too busy fussing over which designer shoes to wear. Chocolate bars that turn adults into over-excited teenagers. The list could go on for days, but I think you get my drift when I say that one of Buffy The Vampire Slayer's greatest achievements is to turn the most absurd of ideas into something approaching credible.
Somehow the fact that the above examples sound ridiculous is incidental, given that the writers combine smart dialogue and good plotting to overcome any doubts. One of the earliest examples of mixing the absurd and the dramatic is the Season One middle point, The Pack.
The Pack's plot basically concerns a small gang of high school bullies possessed by killer hyenas. Yes, really. In theory, it's the sort of idea that you could only find in a comedy skit. In practice though, The Pack...

What struck me most about the anticipation around tonight’s episode of Supernatural — which featured an on-screen reunion between Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Angel alums James Marsters and Charisma Carpenter — was the number of people who claimed they were going to watch Supernatural tonight specifically for these very special guest stars.

Today marks the release of the GLAAD Network Responsibility Index, charting Glbt representation on television. The CW wins in percentage of hours of representation at 33%, while ABC leads in total hours. The big jump was at ABC Family, which managed 55%. While the percentages remained nearly steady with last year, the big news was a jump in racial and gender diversity across the networks.

MTV went on the air 30 years ago today at 12:01 a.m. It was a Saturday morning and the previous week, 13 daytime soaps had aired on ABC, CBS and NBC. That's more than double the six we have today. Here's a look at what happened that week on the soaps:
The Doctors: Greta miscarried. Billy (Alec Baldwin) joined forces with Nola (Kim Zimmer) against Mona. Althea's mystery patient called out Althea's name. Natalie played Jack against Jerry for her affections. Matt fumed when Maggie won a research grant. Mona ordered her lawyer, Edmund, to go over Jason's will. Barney planned to trace his family's roots in Ireland.
All My Children: Brandon finally asked Sara for a divorce, but Sara dampened Erica's parade by vowing a long fight. Wally refused Devon in bed. Jesse returned with Carl and agreed to attend summer school. Sybil failed to win Rick's attention away from Betsy.

A little over two years ago, AfterElton.com brought readers a list of the 37 Hottest Guys in Theater, and since then, the New York Stage has only become increasingly sexified. The lines between Broadway and Hollywood continue to blur, and as young men come to recognition in NYC, they're often quickly whisked away to Tinseltown to showcase not only their amazing talent, but often they're breathtaking good looks.
While it's tempting to include every Hollywood hottie who graces the stage on this list (a certain Lee Pace and Luke Macfarlane spring to mind), the point here is to honor the men who are mostly known for rockin' the live stages here in New York.

Sadly, the writing had been on the wall from the beginning of the season—without a significant uptick in viewership, the series' life-expectancy would be short. It didn't happen...and it was. Dollhouse will return Dec. 4, with its series finale set for Jan. 22.
Fox's other genre series, Fringe, rebounded a bit to its pre-World Series numbers with a 3.7 rating/6 share. That equates to a 19 percent jump from the previous week, but still trails behind The CW, where the network's flagship skein, Smallville, finally regained some ground to tie its former Thursday night stablemate, Supernatural.
Over at ABC, V led all genre shows for the second week of sweeps, despite a more than 25 percent drop from its series premiere, earning a 6.6 rating/10 share,...
