NBC‘s America’s Got Talent has been hit with a lawsuit filed by Jonathan Harvey, a former contestant, stuntman and escapologist, who performs under the name Jonathan Goodwin. A stunt on the shortlived spinoff series America’s Got Talent: Extreme went horribly wrong, and now Goodwin is paralyzed from the waist down, according to the lawsuit, which names NBCUniversal, Syco Entertainment, Freemantle Media North America and others as defendants. Goodwin alleges that the defendants “were negligent and failed to implement industry safety standards,” leading to injuries that are noted in the lawsuit as being “catastrophic” and “life-altering.” The stuntman was known for his extensive involvement with the AGT franchise, including appearing on Britain’s Got Talent, which he described in the lawsuit as a “professional and respectful” experience. However, his later encounters with America’s Got Talent were less pleasant, he claims. Despite these experiences, he decided to participate when the show announced...

Former America’s Got Talent: Extreme reality show contestant Jonathan Goodwin has filed a lawsuit claiming lax safety standards on the show led to an accident that nearly killed him and left him a paraplegic.
The lawsuit was filed Wednesday in Los Angeles Superior Court. Named as defendants were Fremantle Media North America and its production arm, Syco Entertainment, Marathon Productions, and NBCUniversal, among others.
In October 2021, the TV production was at the Atlanta Motor Speedway in Hampton, Georgia. Goodwin was involved in a stunt wherein he was supposed to escape while wearing a straightjacket and suspended 20-40 feet in the air between two cars. The stunt called for him to remove the jacket before the cars hit each other head-on.
Instead, Goodwin was crushed between the two cars as the stunt went wrong, causing an explosion on the set and burning Goodwin. He was rushed to the hospital and production was paused.

Former Britain’s Got Talent star Jonathan Goodwin has reflected on the stunt that left him paralysed.
In October 2021, Goodwin performed an escapology stunt in which he planned to remove a straight jacket while hung upside down between two suspended cars 30 feet in the air.
The cars, however, were released prematurely and Goodwin was crushed between them.
His fiancée, Sherlock star Amanda Abbington, revealed the news on the podcast Out to Lunch with Jay Rayner, stating: “He fell 30 feet and lost a kidney, broke both shoulder blades, shattered both legs. Third degree burns, broke his spine and severed his spinal cord and nearly died. And then on the operating table, he nearly died again.”
She added: “He’s paralysed now, he’s in a wheelchair. Unless there’s a kind of stem cell surgery or that thing that Elon Musk is designing with the little chip, he’ll be like that forever.

The future of high-profile unscripted NBC series including Amy Poehler’s Making It and Kristen Bell’s Family Game Fight! is up in the air as the network has indefinitely parked them.
Making It, Family Game Fight and AGT: Extreme did not make it into NBC’s schedule and it seems that they are the latest non-scripted series to neither be canceled or renewed – in a growing trend as highlighted by Fox earlier this morning as well as ABC with series such as Supermarket Sweep and Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?
It comes as the network has revealed that two of its other big unscripted series The Wheel and Million Dollar Island will launch in midseason.

Jonathan Goodwin has opened up about his tragic accident while filming “America’s Got Talent: Extreme,” which left him paralyzed from the waist down.
On Oct. 15 of last year, Goodwin was rehearsing a daredevil stunt for “AGT: E” in which he was to escape from a straitjacket while hanging upside down between two cars suspended 70 feet in the air. If the stunt had gone as intended, he would have freed himself and dropped onto an air mattress waiting below. While Goodwin managed to pry himself loose from the straitjacket, he was jammed between the cars, causing an explosion. He hit his head and lost consciousness, after which he was airlifted to a hospital and rushed into surgery.
On Friday, Goodwin addressed this paralysis on “Good Morning America” — his first television interview since the accident six months ago. “I don’t really have a great memory. I know that there was a...

NBC has tweaked its midseason schedule, pushing the premiere of Eurovision offshoot American Song Contest by a month, from the previously announced Monday, Feb. 21 (8-10 p.m.) to March 21. Taking over the slot is new reality series America’s Got Talent: Extreme, which made headlines last fall when a contestant was badly hurt in an on-set accident.
According to sources, the decision to delay American Song Contest is being done over Covid concerns amid the current Omicron surge as the series consists of live shows whose logistics could be difficult in the current wave of rampant infections nationwide.

“America’s Got Talent” concluded the semi-final phase of its unconventional season 15 on Tuesday with the first of two semifinal performance shows and on Wednesday with the results of that show based on audience votes. In this semi-finals round, 11 acts per night performed for the judges. On the September 15 live show, judges Howie Mandel, Heidi Klum and Sofia Vergara were alone on the panel while Simon Cowell remained absent while recovering from surgery.
Of Tuesday’s 11 acts that performed, only five of them will advance to the “AGT” finals. Those 11 acts were: chorale group Voices of Our City Choir, dancers W.A.F.F.L.E. Five acts will make it through to the Finals during the Wednesday, September 16 results show thanks to a mix of America’s overnight votes, the Dunkin’ Save and the judges’ pick. That means six acts are about to have their dreams crushed on NBC’s reality TV program just one week before the Season 15 finale.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the entire season had to be re-structured, including the all-important live shows. Several of the acts who initially auditioned online due to stay-at-home orders will now come to Hollywood to perform, despite there not being a live studio audience. After Simon broke his back, he was forced to miss the live shows as he recovered at home. Thus, the judges’ table consists of only Heidi, Sofia Vergara and Howie Mandel.

Simon Cowell considers himself the ultimate authority on talent, which is why he’s so against Terry Crews‘ flute-playing. During Tuesday’s “at home” episode of “America’s Got Talent,” the judges had some time to kill between acts, so Heidi Klum asked Terry whether his flute was close by “somewhere in a drawer.” Simon quickly snapped, “Don’t encourage him,” but it was too late. Terry’s eyes lit up as he disappeared from camera view and then returned with his shiny silver woodwind instrument. Watch the fun “Agt” video above.

British arthouse theater chain Curzon has been bought by Cohen Media Group in a deal that also includes Curzon’s distribution arm and its streaming service. The purchase adds 20 cinemas and 46 screens to the stable of Cohen Media Group, which almost exactly a year ago acquired Landmark Theatres in the U.S.
Financial details of the Curzon deal were not disclosed.
