In another shakeup to the "CBS This Morning" lineup, CBS chief White House correspondent Norah O'Donnell is replacing Erica Hill as a co-anchor. Hill and Chris Wragge were named to replace Harry Smith and Maggie Rodriguez in November 2010 as CBS tried to boost ratings for its perpetually third-place "Early Show." Hill remained aboard when CBS revamped again a year later, bringing in Charlie Rose and Gayle King as co-anchors and changing the name of the show to "CBS This Morning." Last December there was a veritable bloodbath over at CBS when 'The Early Show' axed anchors Harry Smith and Maggie Rodriguez, plus meteorologist Dave Price, in a major reshuffle of CBS News on-air talent. Now it's been reported that early 2012 will see the show receive another makeover including a new set, maybe a new name, and two new hosts: PBS veteran Charlie Rose and Oprah's Bff Gayle King.
According to 'The New York Times' CBS will announce the planned revamp in New York on Tuesday. The network is expected to reveal a shift in direction away from the coffee klatch feel of most morning talk shows and towards a focus on hard news with the panel format of shows like MSNBC's 'Morning Joe' and ABC's 'The View.'

NBC didn't spill any secrets about the unnamed hourlong prime time news program that Brian Williams is developing when it announced today that former CBS News anchor Harry Smith will join the team as "one of the correspondents." The show's exact format is still a mystery, although NBC News president nm2504534 autoSteve Capus[/link] says that Smith's “vast experience, covering everything from interviews with world leaders to wars and natural disasters, makes him a perfect fit for this new broadcast," which will also feature NBC News, MSNBC and CNBC anchors and correspondents. NBC's praise must be refreshing for Smith to hear. In January, CBS pared back his role at The Early Show. CBS put Chris Wragge and Erica Hill in as anchors, replacing Smith and Maggie Rodriguez, in an effort to narrow the ratings gap with NBC's Today and ABC's Good Morning America. Harry Smith has found a new home. The former Early Show host — who first joined CBS back in 1987 — is swapping networks to NBC News, where he will collaborate with Brian Williams on a primetime newsmagazine. The show is set to premiere during the 2011-2012 season.
Last November, Smith and Maggie Rodriguez were ousted from Early Show in an effort to revamp the morning show. Chris Wragge and Erica Hall replaced the two vets.

CBS News veteran Harry Smith is leaving the network to join NBC, six months after CBS replaced his "Early Show" team. NBC said a formal announcement of Smith's hiring will come Monday. TV Guide reported that Smith, who joined CBS in 1986, will join a new primetime newsmagazine show with Brian Williams. CBS announced in November that it would replace Smith, Maggie Rodriguez and Dave Price in the morning show, which lags behind "Today" and "Good Morning America." It was Day One of the new Early Show this morning on CBS. Gone were Harry Smith, Maggie Rodriguez, and Dave Price. In their seats were Chris Wragge, Erica Hill, and Marysol Castro. When the decision to revamp the third-place morning show was announced in November, some folks were none too pleased: Wragge was too handsome, said many critics, and his hard-news bonafides — he logged time on Entertainment Tonight — weren’t up to Smith-ian levels. Many loyal and disappointed fans of the previous team vowed not to watch the program. But the new gang seemed poised and professional this morning,...

While we've been fans of weatherman Dave Price for years, we can't help but suspect his goofy antics contributed to his recent ouster from 'The Early Show.' Sure, the network says he, Harry Smith and Maggie Rodriguez were fired as part of a retooling to boost ratings. But we're not so sure. Review the evidence as Price licks, flubs and fumbles his way out of a job in The Best Examples of Why Dave Price is No Longer Employed. And yet, despite all this, we'd welcome Price back in a second. We salute any weatherman who can consistently make us this uncomfortable.

Getting fired from a job is never easy, but what's worse is getting fired and gaining national attention for it. Just ask CBS 'Early Show' weatherman Dave Price.
Earlier this week, Price, along with Maggie Rodriguez and Harry Smith, were let go from the CBS morning talk show and will be replaced with their weekend counterparts.
"Any time you get news like this it's jarring. It's part of the business. It's a cruel business," Price told the Hollywood Reporter. "But we love it anyway. And so its throws you back a bit, maybe even more than a bit."
The network said it will offer Price another position with CBS News, but Price is hesitant. "I'm going to see if any of [those proposals] are right for me," he said. "If they're not, I'll make a graceful exit."

The CBS morning news timeslot reminds me of a highway-side retail location that changes tenants every few years. First it's a clothing store, then a sushi restaurant, then a gym, then a pizzeria. All the plans are ambitious, but nothing ever sticks.
So the news that the Eye network is shaking up their 'Early Show' crew, jettisoning Harry Smith, Maggie Rodriguez and Dave Price and installing the team of Chris Wragge, Erica Hill, Jeff Glor and Marysol Castro (the new team is pictured to the right), isn't a huge surprise. In fact, the comments by executive producer David Friedman in the wake of the shake-up make perfect sense: the team that was in place didn't have the same chemistry as the team that they're inserting, especially Wragge and Hill, who have been paired on the Saturday 'Early Show' for a couple of years.

Yesterday we heard that anchors Harry Smith and Maggie Rodriguez, plus meteorologist Dave Price, had been axed from 'The Early Show' in a major reshuffle of CBS News on-air talent.
Now, executive producer David Friedman has been explaining the reasons behind the sweeping -- and, to many, unexpected -- changes. He told The Hollywood Reporter that although the shakeup came after a lot of careful consideration, "it feels sudden because there are multiple people and it feels like a big deal."
The change of hosts has allegedly been a topic of discussion at CBS News for some time, according to sources, and it reinforces the critical importance of chemistry in morning television. Announcing the new anchors -- Erica Hill and Chris Wragge -- CBS News President Sean McManus said "This new team brings vibrancy, intelligence and warmth that I think America will grow to love.

Amanda Holden has landed an 18-month TV contract in America. The "Britain's Got Talent" judge will take over as the main female presenter on CBS' morning program "The Early Show" when current host Maggie Rodriguez goes on maternity leave later this year.
"It is a massive deal for her and she was absolutely thrilled," a source told the Daily Mirror newspaper. "Her profile is on the rise Stateside and viewers love her cut-glass accent and easy manner."
The 39-year-old star will apparently head to Los Angeles three weeks after the latest series of the ITV talent show, where she sits on the judging panel alongside Piers Morgan and Simon Cowell, ends this summer.
Bosses at the U.S. network are thrilled with Amanda's "natural" hosting shoes. The source added, "She is a natural presenter and has taken to it like a duck to water. Executives at CBS are predicting big things for her.

The 39-year-old star will apparently head to Los Angeles three weeks after the latest series of the ITV talent show, where she sits on the judging panel alongside Piers Morgan and Simon Cowell, ends this summer.

What's a sure-fire TV winner? Having a baby. Remember when Lucy had Little Ricky on I Love Lucy? Even the reruns that have been running for 50 years are still favorites. So, with that in mind, don't you think America will be overjoyed that Maggie Rodriguez on The Early Show is having a baby?
I do. I expect there to be a spike in the Nielsens as people tune in each morning to watch Maggie's tummy grow and check out her maternity fashions. On today's broadcast of CBS's morning show, Maggie broke the news to co-host Harry Smith, weather forecaster Dave Price and newsman Russ Mitchell. She told them they would all soon be uncles!

Adam Lambert paid CBS a visit on November 25 to make live performances for "The Early Show" audience. The openly gay singer delivered two songs, "Whataya Want From Me" and "Music Again", both of which are from his newly-released debut album "For Your Entertainment".
"Thank you to everyone who waited in the cold so early this morning for my CBS Early Show performance!" Adam wrote on his Twitter after the Wednesday performance. "Your support is so important to me."
In addition to singing, Adam also spoke with hosts Maggie Rodriguez and Harry Smith about the controversy surrounding his sexually-charged performance at 2009 American Music Awards. "I admit I did get carried away, but I don't see anything wrong with it," he said. "I do see how people got offended and that was not my intention. My intention was to interpret the lyrics of my song and have a good time with it.

After Adam Lambert's poorly received fellatio dancing at the American Music Awards got him booted from a Good Morning America appearance, CBS's Early Show picked up the shrieker's pieces for a rousing Q&A. Just before anchor Maggie Rodriguez quizzed Lambert about the propriety of his performance, CBS aired blurred footage of the singer kissing a male dancer and immediately followed it with an uncensored clip of Britney Spears and Madonna locking lips. The layers of charming double standards unravel after the jump.

Parents of America, let it be known: Adam Lambert will not watch your kids for you. After getting 86'ed from Good Morning America, the American Idol fave appeared on CBS' The Early Show on Wednesday to dazzle the audience with his fabulousness, and quite naturally the subject of his sexually charged American Music Awards performance came up. Deflecting co-anchor Maggie Rodriguez's "won't somebody think of the children" line of questioning, Glambo declared, "I think it's up to the parents to discern what their child's watching on television...I'm not a babysitter, I'm a performer." Thanks for clearing up the confusion, Adam! You mean babysitters aren't...

Los Angeles, California (X17online) - Adam Lambert admitted to CBS' Early Show this morning that he "got carried away" during his sexed-up closing number at the AMAs. "I do admit, I got carried away," Adam said of his sexed-up show. He also revealed that some of the more sexually-charged moves weren't planned. "Those came from more of an impromptu place. I think ABC was taken a little by surprise," Adam told Maggie Rodriguez in a segment they labeled "straight talk." But is Adam being unfairly targeted because the moves were male-on-male? He thinks so. If it were "a female pop performer doing the moves ... I don't think there would have been nearly as much of an outrage," he said, adding that Janet Jackson grabbed a male dancers crotch at the opening of the show (at 8pm, instead of his later 11pm performance) and "I didn't hear one peep about that.

Photograph by Paul Sancya/AP Photo Levi Johnston, the father of Sarah Palin’s first acknowledged grandchild, appeared on The Tyra Banks Show two weeks ago to end his silence. There was speculation as to why Johnston would open up to Banks—as opposed to Oprah Winfrey or Barbara Walters—and the answer became clear the next day. In a follow-up CBS Early Show report, anchor Maggie Rodriguez explained Johnston’s career strategy: “He says that he will be an electrician like everyone else in his family, or maybe all this publicity will lead to a modeling or acting gig, which he is open to.” If Johnston wants a career in modeling, it makes sense to cozy up to Banks, the creator and host of The CW’s addictive America’s Next Top Model. Banks even primed the pump on her couch, exclaiming, “I didn’t know you were this handsome.

YouTube marvel Susan Boyle, the Scottish singing sensation who last weekend stunned the judges of the Britain's Got Talent TV show - including cynical Simon Cowell - has hit American shores. In what was billed as her "first U.S. performance," Boyle responded to CBS's The Early Show hosts Maggie Rodriguez and Harry Smith's request that she sing and reprised her signature "I Dreamed a Dream" from the musical Les Miserables - and, after rendering it a cappella, not only nailed it, but won accolades from Broadway's Patti LuPone, who first introduced the song in 1985. "Susan," said LuPone, speaking...

This is what is called an instant success. Susan Boyle, a 47-year-old unemployed church volunteer auditioned for U.K.'s show "Britain's Got Talent", received standing ovation from the audience and went on to become Internet sensation. She was then invited to sing at CBS' "Early Show" on April 16.
Her astounding performance in the audition week of the British show prompted national curiosity that results in over six million hits on YouTube. She sang "I Dreamed a Dream" from "Les Miserable" and wowed the judges that include Simon Cowell. She got three 'yes' and advanced to the next round.
But the words of her talent traveled through the States that "The Early Show" would like her to appear on the show, singing from her kitchen in Scotland. Anchorwoman Maggie Rodriguez announced the performance on last night's "CBS Evening News." It will air at 7 A.M. on Wkmg-Channel 6.

It's catfight time at CBS, where "Inside Edition" host Deborah Norville took a swipe at "The Early Show" anchor Maggie Rodriguez. Norville went on CNN's "Reliable Sources" Sunday and slammed Rodriguez for her interview with Levi Johnston, who admitted shacking up with Bristol Palin at her mom, Sarah Palin's, home. Norville said, "In the interview with the woman from CBS, he said, yes, I stayed there . . . Did you stay there for weeks at a time?...
