Telemundo has found its new news chief.
The Spanish-language media company, owned by NBCUniversal, has named Gemma Garcia head of Noticias Telemundo.
Reporting to Telemundo chairman Luis Fernández, Garcia will work as executive VP of news, overseeing Telemundo’s news programming, editorial units, digital news properties, newsgathering and bureaus in the United States and Latin America, as well as coverage of the 2024 presidential election.
Garcia was most recently head of news at Rtve Play, the streaming service of Radio Televisión Española, Spain’s public broadcaster. But she is also a veteran of Telemundo as both a producer and executive, including a run as senior VP of digital news for the company.

The cast of the Asacha Media-backed Spanish-Serbian thriller series Scar (Cicatriz) has taken shape.
Cameras are rolling today in Spain on the European co-production from Plano a Plano, Dopamine and Adrenalin. Milena Radulovic, Juanlu González, Luis Fernández will lead the scripted series, with Stefan Kapicic, Mladen Sovilj, Goran Susljik and Julen Serrano also attached.

Skydance Animation announced Tuesday that it has finalized a multi-year partnership with children’s entertainment company Spin Master to develop toys and merchandise based on their properties.
“We are thrilled to be partnering with a company like Spin Master that is as committed to quality and attention to detail as we are,” Luis Fernández, head of consumer products at Skydance, said in a statement. “As we ramp up production on our slate of animated features, we could not imagine a better partner to bring our visually stunning and epic animated worlds to life.”

Some called it a welcome gesture of inclusion to the millions of Spanish speakers living in the United States, while others saw it as pandering to a growing voting bloc.
