Three young boys from Brooklyn, NY - Malcolm Brickhouse, Jared Dawkins and Alex Atkins- inspired by entrance music played for wrestlers at events and theme songs of their favorite anime shows started their own metal band, Unlocking the Truth Despite a history of talented African American musicians and bands rocking it out throughout the decades, from Chuck Berry to Jimi Hendrix to Living Colour the notion of an African American hard rock/metal band is still alien if not disregarded as a novelty. At least that is what some first thought of Unlocking the Truth when their videos of street performances in Times Square popped up on YouTube a handful of years ago. Ambitious and talented at their young age their videos racked up...

This time he’s taking on the global phenomenon that was Fifty Shades of Grey, and putting his own spin on it. On Friday we will get to behold Fifty Shades of Black, in all of its hilarious glory.
In honour of this new spoof, we’re taking a look back at some of the best cinematic parodies. Test your knowledge on comedy classics like Austin Powers, Airplane!, and Wet Hot American Summer.

The stretchy-faced comedian has come a long, long way from being a zany standout player on TV’s "In Living Colour," using his manic energy and physical brand of humour to win big at the box office some 20 years ago and continuing to make wildly imaginative, just plain weird and sometimes oddly moving movies.
His latest, Dumb and Dumber To, offers a return to the comedian’s roots as the Dumb to Jeff Daniels’ Dumber (or is it the other way around?) in the Farrelly Brothers' comedy. Carrey resumes the role of Lloyd Christmas, twenty years after his first cross-country escapade with Harry Dunne. The loveable buffoons are back with a mission to seek out Harry’s estranged offspring. If the trailer is any indication, Carrey will be using his elastic features and love of broad, physical comedy to tell the tale.

He’s no womanizer like his Masters of Sex character Dr. Austin Langham, but Teddy Sears has had an appreciation for the female form for some time now—as long as there’s no food involved.
Sears admits he didn’t get what all the fuss over 9 1/2 Weeks’ iconic refrigerator scene was about: “That scene when all the foodstuffs come out? You lost me. That’s when I turned it off.” Then again, he was only 9 or 10 years old at the time.
It’s unlikely the same could be said of Langham if he had come of age during Kim Basinger’s controversy-stirring prime.

Musicians are going back to the studio to re-record old hits. It's an open secret of the music industry, but a new lawsuit contends that consumers aren't being told they're getting "poorly re-recorded songs" when buying compilation albums. Video: '90s Mashup: Vanilla Ice Makes Surprise Appearance at NKotB Concert The defendant in the proposed class action lawsuit is Tutm Entertainment (d/b/a Drew's Entertainment), which has sold albums including Hits of the 80's and Hits of the 90's. The albums feature songs like "I Think We're Alone Now" by Tiffany, "Cult of Personality" by Living Colour, "Ice Ice Baby" by Vanilla

The longtime member of the Red Hot Chili Peppers didn’t have his bass guitar plugged in during their Super Bowl halftime performance, leading many to believe it wasn’t live. Now he’s taking to Twitter to tell his fans that he wasn’t trying to trick them.
The Red Hot Chili Peppers joined Bruno Mars on stage for the Feb. 2 Super Bowl halftime performance and it was epic. Critics have accused the Red Hot Chili Peppers of not performing live during the Super Bowl halftime show on Feb. 3, but I still think they put on an amazing show either way!
From Beyonce to Britney, some of the world’s biggest pop stars have been criticized for not performing live — but has their lip syncing really made their performances any less entertaining? Some very observant Twitter users put a damper on the Red Hot Chili Peppers‘s Super Bowl performance when they noted that Flea‘s bass guitar wasn’t even plugged into anything. Obviously this isn’t the kind of “unplugged” performance the world wants to hear, but regardless, I was thrilled to see that the aging rockers still know how to put on a helluva show!

Bruno Mars and the Red Hot Chili Peppers put on a stellar halftime show during an otherwise tedious Super Bowl, but were Rhcp performing live? According to some noted guitar experts, the answer is a solid no.
Despite some initial hesitation, the world seemed to thoroughly embrace Bruno Mars‘ Super Bowl halftime performance on Feb. 2. However, some very observant Twitter users put a dent in the Red Hot Chili Peppers portion of the performance when they noticed that Flea‘s bass guitar wasn’t even plugged in. Yikes.

Welcome to this week’s results and review of WWE Raw. The first Raw of December is under way.
The show opens with “Cult of Personality” by Living Colour playing and Cm Punk making his way down the aisle and to the squared circle as we see a replay of The Shield attacking Punk last week. Punk grabs a microphone and questions why The Shield might have attacked him last Monday night. He said last week he questioned Triple H, which is obviously why he was attacked by Triple H’s “boys” last week. Punk says he doesn’t want anything to do with The Authority. Punk says he prides himself on being one of the “biggest anti-authority guys” in WWE history. Stephanie McMahon’s music cuts Punk off and she makes her way to the stage area with a smile across her face. Stephanie says that she hoped Punk...

Welcome to this week’s results and review of Monday Night Raw.
The show begins with Living Colour’s “Cult of Personality” hitting and Cm Punk making his way down the aisle to a tremendous pop from the fans. We see a short clip of last week’s Raw when Punk and Daniel Bryan were separately attacked by The Wyatt Family. The Wyatt’s make their entrance and Punk’s opponent tonight is Luke Harper, who is accompanied by Bray and Rowan. Harper uses his brawling to keep Punk down, while Punk attempts to get technical, only to be beaten down by the unorthodox offence of Harper. The fans chant “Cm Punk” as Harper continued the beat-down on the “straight-edge saviour”. Punk regains control with a dive from the ring to the outside onto Harper. Punk finds himself on the ground again, being choked by the boot of Luke Harper,...

Eminem's 'Rap God' is a reminder that the Hip Hop world has white artists as relevant and exciting as Kendrick, Kanye and Drake. Kind of like the band Living Colour and the late Jimi Hendrix's guitar virtuosity in the typically white boy game of hard rock. Fresh takes have tweaked the genre on its ear since the Beastie Boys broke on the scene in the 1980s. Pride of Detroit, Marshall Mathers, aka Eminem showed that a facile tongue and quick witted mind can show up the best of them, perhaps inspiring the South African hip hop/rap act Die Antwoord, whose electrifying performances and avante garde videos defy the typical rapper tropes too. Eminem's latest single “Rap God," has him...

Wrestlemania. The jewel in the WWE's crown, the Superbowl of sweaty men in tights suplexing each other in the squared circle, and quite possibly the greatest show on earth. Wait, come back, I'm being serious here. Whatever your feelings about Mr McMahon, assuming you have any at all of course, you can't deny that he loves to put on a spectacle.

Chris Jericho’s expected feud with Cm Punk which will culminate with a WWE Championship Match at WrestleMania 28 has truly begun. Y2J officially turned heel on Monday when he attacked Cm Punk during his match against Daniel Bryan, believed to be the first stepping stone towards the Wm main event.
Chris Jericho has furthered the feud yesterday when he wrote on Twitter on Wednesday in regards to Punk’s entrance theme;
“Cult Of Personality playing on Xm. I hate this song….”
Cult of Personality by Living Colour is of course, unmistakeably, the theme song of Cm Punk.
The next expected move in the feud is for Chris Jericho to cut a long promo on Punk on Monday Night’s edition of Raw next week. Y2J was also named as a competitor in the Raw Elimination Chamber match at this month’s WWE Elimination Chamber pay-per-view against Cm Punk,...

I'm really looking forward to Goon after seeing the latest trailer. I was especially impressed by the use of "Cult of Personality" by Living Colour. We already debuted character posters of Seann William Scott and Liev Schrieber. Now thanks to our Canuck friends over at Cineplex, we have two more character posters. One of Jay Baruchel and the other of Marc-Andre Grondin. Baruchel co-wrote the script on this one. Check out both posters below and click to get the hi-res version at the Pimpin' Poster Palace.

"Twenty years ago," blogs the New Yorker's Sasha Frere-Jones today, "I spent an afternoon shuffling around Rocks In Your Head, a record store that once did business on Prince Street. (It closed in 2006.) My friend Jim worked the counter, and we were listening to a new album, over and over: Nirvana's Nevermind. At some point, Vernon Reid — the guitar player and founder of Living Colour — came in. He listened to four songs, nodded approvingly, and approached the counter. 'Metallica plus R.E.M. That's really smart.' He bought a copy and left."
Michael Stipe, Peter Buck and Mike Mills, who formally announced the amicable dissolution of R.E.M. yesterday, will surely be hoping their band will be remembered as more than half the formula for another band ten years their junior (and, for what it's worth, I personally believe they will be), but if this anecdote is the first...

This week I thought I would see how much the size of the screen affects my ranking of a movie. Put another way: What are the top ten movies I saw on video for the first time? In the past I’ve argued that seeing a movie in the theater is likely to make you appreciate it slightly more than you would otherwise. (Not a particularly earth-shattering observation.) That’s certainly not true in all cases, and the reverse — liking a movie less if you see it on video for the first time — is difficult to prove as well. We see more bad movies at home than in the theater because we’re usually not willing to spend theatrical prices on movies we suspect will be bad. So all the marginal crap eventually gets watched on DVD. However, I argue that if we did see those movies in the theater,...

Frost the cupcakes and get the trick candles ready, because it's time to wish dynamic rock frontman and Lollapalooza godfather Perry Farrell a very happy birthday. The diverse rocker is now 52 years old and is still going strong as the frontman of seminal band Jane's Addiction. But on this special day, it's time to look back at one of his more underrated projects.
When it came time for Jane's Addiction to call it quits, Farrell staged the first Lollapalooza as a farewell tour for the band in the summer of 1991 (that tour also featured Siouxsie and the Banshees, Nine Inch Nails, Living Colour, Ice-t and Body Count, Butthole Surfers, Rollins Band, Violent Femmes and Fishbone). With the band in his rearview, Farrell formed a new combo called Porno for Pyros (which also featured Jane's Addiction drummer Stephen Perkins). In this age of media access with no boundaries at all, it's sort of impossible to contemplate a time when pieces of oratory could actually feel special. President Barack Obama has brought a little bit of that back to the public forum (several of his speeches — including his inaugural address and his "Philadelphia speech" about race — have taken on mythic proportions), but generally speaking, people don't hang on the words of great speakers very much anymore. That's why John F. Kennedy's inaugural address (which he delivered on this day in 1961, exactly half a century ago) still resonates strongly today. Not only was it a speech full of inspiration and substance, but it was also delivered by a master orator.

I don't normally go see cover acts, mostly because of the constant belly aching from my friends in "real" bands about how those "Freebird" playing yahoos are always taking money out of their pockets. And after getting burned one too many times by lame tribute acts (Ok, just that once, but you know who you are and you should be ashamed!), I was wary of the "Experience Hendrix" tribute tour because I love Jimi Hendrix and refuse to let some hack ruin him for me.

On Saturday (August 7), AFI took the stage in the middle of the afternoon to perform at their first ever Lollapalooza. Update: According to The Wrap, Foxx's "agent said through his publicist that there is 'no truth' to the story." Did Marshall misspeak? Is the deal not done? Unknown. Original article follows. No surprise that a big-screen version of Laverne & Shirley might be in the works (slightly surprised that it has taken so long) but who would have expected Jamie Foxx would be writing it? That's odd, even with Foxx's history as a writer on In Living Colour. Jessica Biel and Jennifer Garner have been recently been rumored to star, and current quotes seem to confirm that as well. Talking about a feature version of the show, producer Garry Marshall said at a recent fundraiser, reported by TV Guide, that “Jamie [Foxx] and I are trying to do it. He’s writing it. It’s a whole different modern day take on how they came up on the streets during difficult times.

Carrie Ann Inaba has admitted that she did not get on with Jennifer Lopez when they worked together. Appearing on The Wendy Williams Show, the Dancing With The Stars judge explained that she was often mistaken for Lopez when they starred as Fly Girls on In Living Colour. "You know what is crazy?" she said. "When she first came out, everybody would show these pictures of us, and they would put under me that I was J. Lo, that I was (more)...

"American Idol" fans are buzzing after Tuesday night's (January 26) episode, thanks to the revelation that Adam Lambert's huge post-"AI" success has new contestants eager to mimic his unique style. One featured face is raising the most eyebrows, however: Daniel Franco from "Project Runway."
A montage of people who came to the Los Angeles auditions dressed like Lambert featured several men and women decked out with spiky hair, eyeliner and lots of leather. One highlight included someone butchering Living Colour's "Cult of Personality" while employing all of Adam's tics but little of the talent that made Lambert an "Idol" breakout star.
In the middle of it all, however, was Franco — who was cut in the first-ever episode of "Runway" and then...

Katy Perry and Simon Cowell on "American Idol" Tuesday

Katy Perry and Avril Lavigne know exactly what it's like to have a musical dream. Both were once teenage girls who had to scrape and paw their way to pop stardom, which is why the youngest "American Idol" guest judges to date were perfect for the Los Angeles round of auditions.
Despite being the entertainment capital of the world, the L.A. auditions on Tuesday night's (January 26) "Idol" provided very few fireworks — except for the catty exchanges between Perry and fellow judge Kara DioGuardi, which were among the most entertaining moments on an otherwise lackluster evening.
One of the night's biggest standouts was 28-year-old Burbank, California, native Mary Powers, mother of an 8-year-old girl, who put a smile on...

Like the drummer's chair in Spinal Tap, the guitar player position in the Red Hot Chili Peppers has always been a mysterious black hole. The band has been together since 1983 and have morphed from snot-nosed skate punks to a full-scale stadium rock monster. They've been on hiatus, but recently got back together to talk about new material. Except they are short one member, as guitarist John Frusciante announced that he has left the band. It's the second time Frusciante has left the band (the first time was in 1992 at the height of the band's Blood Sugar Sex Magik-era popularity).
All told, the Red Hot Chili Peppers have had seven total guitarists in their history. Original axeman Hillel Slovak died of an overdose in 1988 and was followed by DeWayne McKnight, Frusciante, Arik Marshall, Dave Navarro and Frusciante again. (Guitarist Jack Sherman actually recorded the parts for the band's self-titled first album...
