Depeche Mode have confessed that they're disappointed about never receiving the 'Outstanding Contribution' award at the Brits. The prize has been given a second year off in 2013, but the band admitted that they are not sure whether they would accept the award if it was handed to them. "We'd like to be offered, though whether we'd accept it is another thing," synth player Andy Fletcher told the Daily Star. "In 2011 the Brits didn't have an 'Outstanding Achievement' award (more)...

Depeche Mode are ready to re-take their title as the Kings of Synthpop. The long-running British group held a press conference in Paris today to talk up their upcoming new album and the launch of an extensive tour of Europe next summer, with North American dates promised to follow. They also unveiled a rather dark, untitled new track, accompanied by a Timothy Saccenti-directed video consisting of a black-and-white montage of images of the band in the studio. They've still got it. Watch the video here: Depeche Mode -- featuring core members Dave Gahan, Martin Gore and Andy Fletcher -- will play 34...

Depeche Mode's Dave Gahan has revealed that the band are currently working on their next album. The frontman explained that he, Martin Gore and Andy Fletcher are in New York working on the follow-up to 2009's Sounds of the Universe. The electronic pioneers have a large collection of possible songs for the album, with the hope of completing it by the end of the year, Gahan told Billboard. "We've got more songs than we've ever had to work on at this stage," he said. "Martin's been very prolific, written some great songs. I've got a bunch of tunes as well that we're working on that are really starting to develop into something cool. "I'm excited about where this one's going; I think it's going to be a more direct record, a punchier record. (more)...

Depeche Mode musician Martin Gore became a "synthaholic" when creating the group's new album. The multi-instrumentalist swapped drinking for obsessively buying keyboards to work on upcoming LP, 'Sounds of the Universe', and admits it had a profound effect on his output as the band's chief songwriter. Band member Andy Fletcher, 47, said: "We got very excited whenever a new instrument arrived. Martin turned into a synthaholic!" Gore, 47, added: "It's hard to say if it was subconscious but I started buying all this stuff. All these packages were turning up and they helped to shape the album a lot. The sounds are unique and almost retro space age." Gore feels like a new man since he quit alcohol...
