Kew Media-backed UK outfit Awesome Media & Entertainment, the IP and production company founded by writer-producer Jeff Norton, is launching a graphic novel ‘studio’ with the ambition to develop stories into film and TV properties.
Awesome’s fiction publishing imprint Awesome Reads was launched in 2018. Comic book writer Richard Dinnick is joining the new venture as publisher.
The plan is for Awesome Reads to develop high-concept, character-driven comics for a broad, adult audience and for them to also be developed for the screen. The division will launch with Retrograde, a post-apocalyptic love story about the survivors of a retro-virus that has dialed back the evolutionary clock on most of the planet’s DNA.
Retrograde is written by Dinnick (Lost In Space), with art by Pasquale Qualano, colors by Charlie Kirchoff, and lettering by Comicraft’s Richard Starkings and Jimmy Betancourt. It will be followed in December by #Guardian, written by Erika Lewis,...

Evil Ink! Comics/Boom! Studios
Release Date: October 19, 2011
Cover Price: $3.99
It's always a little difficult for me to write a review on something where I feel a little emotionally attached. For those who haven't been paying attention to this site, we've covered Key of Z pretty much since its inception when we interviewed both Claudio Sanchez and Chondra Echert at last year's New York Comic-Con when it was still known as Subway Seriez up to this past month when we interviewed the writers again to revisit the series and see what else was coming up. They've always been super generous, kind, and open to me. So, that makes viewing the comic objectively extremely hard. It's because of this,...

Written by Clive Barker and Christopher Monfette.
Art by Leonardo Manco.
Colors by Charlie Kirchoff.
Lettering by Travis Lanham.
In pop culture, Clive Barker's most celebrated creation is Pinhead. He's the leader of the Cenobites, otherworldly creatures who preach desires of beauty and pain, dislocation and consequence–some of which straight from Barker's own imagination. Other writers and directors in other mediums have revealed more of his insidious life. And Doug Bradley's own contribution before putting away the makeup made for some interesting moments, but to have the scribe return to pen the next chapter is welcoming return to a medium–comics–he's enjoyed working with since '93.
Boom! Studios is releasing Clive Barker's vision of what is next for Pinhead. Simply titled, Clive Barker's Hellraiser, the comic does require some knowledge of the movies. Unless readers are familiar with who Kirsty Cotton is, part of the story is lost.

Hellraiser #1
Written by Clive Barker and Christopher Monfette
Art by Leonardo Manco
Colors by Charlie Kirchoff
Lettering by Travis Lanham
Cover A: Tim Bradstreet
Cover B: Nick Percival
Cover C: Clive Barker
Price $3.99
Release date: March 23, 2011
It's always funny to hear that with all the Hellraiser movies out there, Clive Barker has only been involved in the first movie, and the novella that movie was based on. And that's it. And this is the name most often connected with the series. So I'm sure it's exciting for horror fans to learn that Barker has returned to the series that made him famous, as he has with the new comic series from Boom! Studios. It's been almost 25 years since he last worked on the series, so now it's time to see if he has picked up where he left off.
Anyone familiar with the movies will be right at home with this comic.
