Their success as a team came to a sudden end in 1971 when Henry D. Haynes ("Homer") was stricken by a fatal heart attack at the age of only 54.
They were a country music duo made up of Henry D. Haynes (as "Homer") and Kenneth C. Burns (as "Jethro").
They are best remembered for performing comedy songs, parodies of popular songs and songs from other genres performed in an exaggerated country style.
Like Spike Jones and members of his City Slickers, both "Homer" and "Jethro" were accomplished musicians. They also worked as session men and performed instrumental backup on many recordings for other performers.
Adding to their comedy was their "Mutt and Jeff" appearances. Homer appeared to be playing an oversized guitar while the taller Jethro would be playing a small mandolin.
They were crossover hits with ever increasing popularity well beyond country music domains.
