Joshua Jackson, star of Ryan Murphy’s Doctor Odyssey, teased a bit about the anticipated new drama series set for premiere this fall on ABC.
In a red carpet interview with Deadline at Disney’s upfront earlier this week, Jackson said the show is in “deep pre-production” with shooting to begin in about four weeks. He added, “the sets are all built” and “look amazing, the cast is mostly together, the scripts are written and we’re just ready to go.”
In addition to Jackson, Don Johnson, Phillipa Soo and Sean Teale also star.
As with all Ryan Murphy series, no details about the premise or character descriptions are being revealed. We do know that Jackson is playing a Doctor. “Ryan Murphy doesn’t write normal procedural television, so the world that this doctor lives in is going to be as over the top and outrageous as you would expect from Ryan Murphy,...

Ryan Murphy’s “Feud: Capote Vs. The Swans” shatters the social hierarchy of 1960s elite New York, one betrayal at a time.
Season 2 of the anthology series centers on acclaimed writer Truman Capote (Tom Hollander), once a confidante to society’s most elite women, whom he nicknamed “the swans.” However, his act of betrayal effectively destroyed those relationships, banished him from high society and sent him into a spiral of self-destruction from which he would ultimately never recover.
Per the official synopsis, “Enchanted and captivated by these doyennes, Capote ingratiated himself into their lives, befriending them and becoming their confidante, only to ultimately betray them by writing a thinly veiled fictionalization of their lives, exposing their most intimate secrets. When an excerpt from the book, Answered Prayers, Capote’s planned magnum opus, was published in Esquire, it effectively destroyed his relationship with his swans, banished him from the high society...

For actors Evan Peters and Niecy Nash-Betts, as well as director Paris Barclay, the critical mission with Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story was to shift the focus of the narrative around the serial killer away from Dahmer himself and toward his many victims, as well as the systemic racism and institutional failures of the police that allowed him to get away with his crimes.

In 2017, following eight losses throughout the preceding decade, Ryan Murphy finally achieved his first competitive PGA Award win for producing the first iteration of “American Crime Story,” aka “The People v. Flash back with me, if you will, to December 2011.
The first season of FX’s American Horror Story had just aired its 12th and final episode and it was a shockingly conclusive one. The following day, creator Ryan Murphy hopped on the phone with the press to reveal that the story presented in the first season of the show (retroactively dubbed American Horror Story: Murder House) was definitively over and future seasons of the show would feature new characters, new locations, and new plot lines. In short, American Horror Story was a surprise anthology series, something that Murphy and fellow co-creator Brad Falchuk had planned from the start.
Some 11 years later, the decision to turn American Horror Story into an anthology does not seem that radical. In the streaming era, many shows opt to continue on as anthologies after wrapping up a story to their satisfaction in season 1. Some recent examples include The Terror,...

After breakout successes from Ryan Murphy’s two latest Netflix series, the streamer is doubling (and tripling) down on both.
Netflix has ordered two additional installments of Monster after huge viewing figures for its Jeffrey Dahmer-focused season and picked up a second season of The Watcher. The former will become an anthology series a la Murphy’s FX shows American Horror Story and American Crime Story, with “stories of other monstrous figures who have impacted society,” per Netflix. Creative details about season two of The Watcher are being kept quiet for now, so it’s unclear if it too will become an anthology or continue the unsettling story from the first season, which left several things open-ended.
Murphy and long-time collaborator Ian Brennan created Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, and the two teamed with Narcos boss Eric Newman on The Watcher.

Ryan Murphy has another anthology after Netflix ordered two additional installments of his Monster franchise following the success of Dahmer.
The streamer has also ordered a second season of his drama series The Watcher.
Neither move is a surprise given the ratings success of both shows, particularly the outsized ratings of Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, which is on course to reach 1B hours viewed in the coming weeks.
Both Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story and The Watcher come from American Horror Story co-creator Murphy and Glee co-creator Ian Brennan.
Netflix didn’t disclose what the two additional installments of the Monster anthology franchise will cover but said that they will “tell the stories of other monstrous figures who have impacted society”.
Murphy is behind an incredible number of franchises including American Horror Story, American Horror Stories, American Crime Story, American Love Story, Feud and 9-1-1.

In his second appearance in two days to talk about Dahmer — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, creator Ryan Murphy said his goal for the Netflix limited series was to tell a “complicated human story.”
“We weren’t really interested in Dahmer the monster,” Murphy said at a quasi-press conference Saturday at Netflix headquarters. “It was [about] who was complicit in making the monster. There were many, many different things involved in that. It was a complicated human story … it tackled systemic racism, homophobia. We were always thinking of the victims.”
Murphy thinks the limited series has been so popular — he said that sometime in the next week, 1 billion hours will have been streamed by viewers — because “the world is such a dark place” and people need a place to “put their anxiety.”
“I think since Covid, people are really interested in mental health,” continued Murphy.

Ryan Murphy sat down with the female cast members of The Watcher to reflect on the true crime genre and discuss who may have been the true voyeur who inspired his Netflix limited series.
But first, Murphy was happy to take credit for accomplishing what few — if any — Hollywood projects try to accomplish these days: casting not one, but five women of a certain age.
“People are always writing articles about how there are no roles for women over 40,” Murphy said to stars Naomi Watts, Jennifer Coolidge, Margo Martindale, Mia Farrow and Nova Dumezweni. “That’s not true … I try. I love the scenes that you women all have together.”
He also told the cast members that for the first time in his career, every one of them was his first choice for the seven-parter that dropped Oct. 13. Watts plays Nora Brannock, the co-owner of the house (with Bobby Cannavale...

Rita Isbell, a family member of one of Jeffrey Dahmer’s victims who is portrayed in the new Netflix series about the serial killer, is speaking out about Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story.
Isbell’s brother, Errol Lindsey, was murdered at age 19 by Dahmer. She gave a victim impact statement during Dahmer’s 1992 sentencing, when the killer was given 15 consecutive life sentences. The emotional moment is re-created in the Ryan Murphy- and Ian Brennan-created limited series, which topped the streamer’s top 10 list the week of its Sept. 21 release.
“When I saw some of the show, it bothered me, especially when I saw myself — when I saw my name come across the screen and this lady saying verbatim exactly what I said,” wrote Isbell in an essay for Insider. “If I didn’t know any better, I would’ve thought it was me.

Jeffrey Dahmer is a hit for Netflix and for Ryan Murphy.
Dahmer: Monster – The Jeffrey Dahmer Story drew a huge audience on its launch with 196.2M people tuning in since its launch on September 21.
Those numbers put it in the very top tier of Netflix hits since it changed the way that it reports ratings figures in June 2021.
Only Squid Game, All of Us Are Dead, season four of Stranger Things and season two of Bridgerton have beaten it in that period and the limited series beat shows such as Inventing Anna, which opened with 195.97M viewers, and the third season of You, which scored 179M.
It’s hard to compare to Murphy’s other Netflix series such as The Politician (September 2019), Hollywood (May 2020), Ratched (September 2020) and Halston (May 2021) as they all debuted before Netflix shifted the way that it reports its data, but it’s likely that The Jeffrey...
