The writers behind Late Night with Seth Meyers are taking their comedy to Washington D.C. this summer — Just don’t tell Seth.
“Don’t Tell Seth! An Evening with the Seth Meyers Writers” will come to the Kennedy Center on June 14-15, as part of its Comedy at the Kennedy Center programming.
Hosted by writers John Lutz and Peter Grosz, the variety show will feature standup comedy, sketches, audience interaction, and improv from Late Night scribes Matt Goldich, Jenny Hagel, Jeff Wright, Allison Hord, Ben Warheit, and Ian Morgan.
“Unshackled from the confines of network censors and what Seth thinks is ‘appropriate’ for his show,” the event description teases, “they are finally free to let loose!”
Seth’s writers are familiar faces on Late Night, often appearing on the program in sketches and desk segments like “Jokes Seth Can’t Tell.” But this isn’t the first time they...

After Writers Guild of America waged a protest regarding the Television Academy‘s decision to move the outstanding writing for a variety series or special categories out of the upcoming Emmy telecast, the TV Academy has reversed course.
In a joint release sent out today, the Television Academy, Fox and the WGA said they were “happy to announce they have reached an agreement to include the Writing for a Variety Series category in the 75th Emmy Awards telecast airing live on Fox on January 15, 2024, at 8pm Est / 5pm Pst.”
Because this year’s Primetime Emmys has moved the variety special (live) category into the telecast (it was on the Creative Arts show last year), the TV Academy was likely looking to keep the telecast capped at 25 awards, so something had to fall out. And in this case, it was the variety writing field that originally got pushed to the Creative Arts ceremony.

Today in Hollywood, an out-of-office email message might not be for a vacation — but instead a subtle form of protest.
Some industry workplaces, including most of the major talent agencies, will participate in a nationwide virtual walkout organized by Planned Parenthood to show support for abortion rights Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m. Pt. Some companies are adding additional programming as well — ahead of the walkout at UTA, client and Hacks star Hannah Einbinder will moderate a conversation with Debasri Ghosh, managing director of the National Network of Abortion Funds, and Alencia Johnson, the founder and chief impact officer of the social impact agency 1063 West Broad.
The virtual walkout is one of the ways, in the nearly three weeks since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade on June 24, that the entertainment industry has transitioned from shock to activism. There is also the group of power players,...

Days after the Supreme Court announced the overturning of Roe v. Wade, eliminating abortion access for millions of women across the United States, a slew of late-night TV hosts used their platforms Monday to condemn the decision.
On Jimmy Kimmel Live!, comedian Chelsea Handler, who is covering the show’s hosting duties while Kimmel is on vacation — “I will be here all week long — or at least until Republicans make it illegal for women to talk,” she joked — used her opening monologue to highlight the absurdity of the Supreme Court’s decision.

At the top of each of their late-night shows, hosts James Corden, Seth Meyers and Trevor Noah took a moment to address the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision Friday to overturn Roe v. Wade, the 1973 ruling that legalized abortion nationwide.
In a taping filmed outside the U.K. Parliament, the Late Late Show’s Corden reacted to the Supreme Court ruling, first reflecting on how abortion was legalized in the U.K. in 1967. Corden noted that it would take nearly 800 elected officials and appointees to change the legalization of abortion in the U.K. and agree that “the fundamental rights of half the population would be endangered in the United Kingdom.”
Corden went on to further address the “heart-wrenching and frightening news.”
“For the past eight years, I’ve been living, working and raising my young family in America. It’s a place I love.

James Corden and Seth Meyers criticized President Trump's sudden announcement to ban transgender people from serving in the military with righteous rants, and a little song and dance.
On The Late Late Show, Corden donned a tux and tails to deliver a send up of Nat King Cole's classic "L-o-v-e" as "L-g-b-t." "L, he doesn't care for lesbians," Corden sang. "G, he thinks to men should just be friends/ B, to his dumb knowledge, is just a phase in college/ T, he finds confusing so the army's now refusing.

Here at IndieWire, we love bloopers. Live TV is an unpredictable, glorious place where the best laid plans can be torn asunder in an instant.
And among the ranks of TV mistakes, late night ones are in a special echelon all by themselves. Last month, we ran down our comprehensive list of the best flubs from “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.” But this wildly unexpected turn in a “Late Night with Seth Meyers” segment on “Wonder Woman” is right up there with some of the all-time greats.

Resurrecting a regular segment called “Point, Counterpoint,” featuring “Late Night” writers Ally Hord and Amber Ruffin in a “Crossfire” parody, the subject turned to Hollywood. Ruffin, who usually draws these segments away from the headlines of the day and into a stream of consciousness/word-association trip, made a reference to confetti cannons.

A third Steve Jobs movie has been made, and it's coming from the funny folks over at Funny or Die. There's the Jobs movie that was recently made that stars Ashton Kutcher, Sony Pictures is developing one with Aaron Sorkin, and now we're going to get a comedic film inspired by the life of the legend.
The movie is called iSteve and it will star Justin Long as Jobs. As you know he's appeared in several Mac vs. PC commercials. The movie will clock in at 60 to 75 minutes, and it's the longest project to date for Funny or Die, which is generally known for its funny comedy sketches. The original plan was to make a fake trailer for a Steve Jobs movie, and they just ended up turning it into an actual full movie. Producer Allison Hord explains,
