The more emotion-driven a TV series or movie, the more important the soundtrack. And boy is Normal People, the Hulu adaptation of Sally Rooney’s wildly popular novel of the same name, driven by the emotion of its characters and world.
Normal People follows Marianne and Connell’s complicated relationship as they move from being teenagers at a small town in western Ireland into young adulthood at Dublin’s Trinity College, and showrunner Ed Guiney, directors Lenny Abrahamson and Hettie Macdonald, music supervisors Juliet Martin and Maggie Phillips, and editor Nathan Nugent have done an impressive job crafting the music landscape for this world.
“We were trying all sorts of tracks ourselves,” said Abrahamson, who mentioned Martin, Phillips, Nugent, and himself as the chief collaborators in the process. “So, as well as the work that Stephen Rennicks, the composer, was doing, it was just, again, a very organic kind of collaboration.

Nerina Pallot has branded Gary Barlow as the first credible judge to be included on the X Factor panel. The 'Put You Hands Up' performer revealed that she is a fan of the show, but thinks the contestants should be nurtured as artists while participating in the competition. When asked whether songwriting should be encouraged on the X Factor, Pallot told Digital Spy: "Definitely. I'm actually a fan of The X Factor and I think it's important that it exists, but I think it's not the best platform it could be for the artists. "I think they are going to cheapen the brand unless they allow more interesting acts to come through, because people are sick of these identical Christmas singles. There's also loads of talented people who don't get into the finals which shows that it's more about (more)...

My dad was having major surgery and I couldn't think straight - I was so worried about father. "'Put It Back Together Again' I wrote when I was waiting for my mum to call me and tell me that my dad had come out of surgery okay. It was the only way I could stop being a headcase in the corner." She added: "I could never sing that song. I get too choked up. Sometimes I go to sing it and I fall apart. But it really worked for Diana because (more)...

Nerina Pallot has suggested that The X Factor exploits its acts to make money for Simon Cowell. The singer-songwriter told Metro that the focus of the show should be on the singers rather than the programme boss. "I feel that the way The X Factor is run is wrong," Pallot said. "You couldn't have that show without the contestants, but it's basically a Cowell money-making machine. "But what if you're really into making music but don't know anyone in London; how would you get into the industry?" Asked if she would have considered the show, she added: "Yes. Proof that neither film nor music are the preserve of the young came from readers' responses last week to three pieces that celebrated the work of two dead musicians and one elderly film director who suffered a stroke. The love displayed for Roy Orbison, Johnny Cash and Ken Russell was touching, and a reminder that some flashes are best left in the pan. Alexis Petridis's review of a collection of Orbison's singles stirred this memory from kmund: "I bought every 45 of the Big O and – great victory – persuaded my father to take me to see Orbison in his pomp, probably in 1962, headlining a pop star package tour. The man did not move one inch throughout the whole show, other than his hands playing the guitar and his mouth opening and shutting to sing – yet he was utterly mesmerising.

The "Sophia" singer, Nerina Pallot experienced love at first sight with Andy Chatterley - he proposed just 30 minutes after they met in 2007 and they wed six weeks later.
The stars are now parents to son Wolfie, who was born in September 2010, but Nerina Pallot admits she and Chatterley may be too close.
She tells Britain's Glamour magazine, "Like any couple, we have conflict. Our politics are slightly different, and he has since become my manager, which means there are times when we're together too much. We're also both stubborn and can be point scorers."
But Pallot still sees a long future for her and Chatterley, "Despite this, I think Andy and I are forever, and he feels the same."...
