Brisbane, Oct 19 (Ians) India’s second warm-up match against New Zealand in the Icc Men’s T20 World Cup at The Gabba on Wednesday has been abandoned due to persistent rain.
Earlier, the start of the warm-up match had been delayed due to rain. “It’s raining here at The Gabba currently. Cut off time for a 5-over-a-side game is 8.46 Pm (4.16 Pm Ist),” tweeted the Board of Control for Cricket in India (Bcci).
Earlier in the day, rain had washed out the practice match between Pakistan and Afghanistan at the same venue. With heavy rain still hampering the start of play between India and New Zealand, the officials, including umpire Paul Reiffel, reckoned that the weather wouldn’t clear up quickly, thus paving the way for the match to be abandoned.
India had defeated defending champions Australia by six runs in their first warm-up match at The Gabba on Monday.

Menon, the 38-year-old former Indian cricketer, has been selected along with 15 other umpires to officiate in the World Cup matches to be held at seven venues across the country.
“In total, 16 umpires will officiate across the tournament with Richard Kettleborough, Nitin Menon, Kumara Dharmasena and Marais Erasmus having been the umpires in charge of the 2021 final, which saw this year’s hosts claim their first Icc Men’s T20 World Cup title,” said Icc in a statement on Tuesday.
“It is an experienced group of umpires, with the same 16 selected as last year’s tournament which was held in the United Arab Emirates and Oman,” Icc said.

Sydney, Jan 10 (Ians) Former cricketer Vvs Laxman has slammed crowd racism after concerns were once again raised by the Indian team in the ongoing third Test against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
At least six members of the Scg crowd were removed from the stands on Sunday after Mohammed Siraj raised concerns on the fourth day when play was stopped for a brief while as the umpires and security officials combined to take action, and removed the spectators concerned.
"Very unfortunate to see what's happening at Scg. There is no place for this rubbish. Never understood the need to yell abuse at players on a sporting field. If you're not here to watch the game and can't be respectful then please don't come and spoil the atmosphere," Laxman said in a tweet.

Sydney, Jan 10 (Ians) Play was stopped in the second session on Day Four of the ongoing third Test after Indian players made a complaint to umpires about unsavoury comments being made for Mohammed Siraj by a section of crowd at the Sydney Cricket Ground (Scg).
The incident happened before the start of the 86th over in Australia's second innings when Siraj, fielding on the boundary line, went to skipper Ajinkya Rahane and raised the issue that some fans were passing abusive comments directed at him.
Rahane then walked up to the square leg umpire Paul Reiffel and complained about the same. While players huddled in the centre, security personnel entered the stands and a group of six Australian fans were removed from their seats by New South Wales Police.
The incident follows alleged racial abuse of Indian players by a small section of the Scg crowd on Saturday.

Sydney, Nov 28 (Ians) India cricket team players have been fined 20 per cent of their match fee for maintaining a slow over-rate against Australia in the first One-day International (Odi) in Sydney on Friday.
David Boon of the Icc Elite Panel of Match Referees imposed the sanction after Virat Kohli's side was ruled to be one over short of the target after time allowances were taken into consideration.
"In accordance with Article 2.22 of the Icc Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minimum over-rate offences, players are fined 20 per cent of their match fee for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time," the Icc said in a statement.
"Kohli pleaded guilty to the offence and accepted the proposed sanction, so there was no need for a formal hearing. On-field umpires Rod Tucker and Sam Nogajski, TV umpire Paul Reiffel and fourth...

Dubai, Oct 15 (Ians) India skipper Virat Kohli has suggested that captains in T20 cricket should be given the authority to review wide ball and waist-height no-ball calls from on-field umpires.
"As a captain, I would like to have the ability to review a wide which could be a wrong call or a waist high full toss which could be a wrong call," Kohli told Kl Rahul during an Instagram chat session on Wednesday.
"Historically, we've seen how these small things can affect the game in a fast paced T20 format and high-profile tournaments like Ipl," he added.
Kohli's comments come in the aftermath of a controversy involving Ms Dhoni during Chennai Super Kings' match against SunRisers Hyderabad in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (Ipl).

Dubai, Oct 14 (Ians) Chennai Super Kings (Csk) skipper Ms Dhoni was seen visibly angry during his side's 20-run win over SunRisers Hyderabad in their eighth Indian Premier League (Ipl) 2020 encounter.
During the 19th over of Srh's chase of 168 on Tuesday evening, both Dhoni and Shardul Thakur expressed their disappointment after umpire Paul Reiffel stretched his arms to signal a wide being faced by Rashid Khan. Following Dhoni's miffed gesture, the umpire then seemed to change his mind and decided not to call the wide.
Reiffel put his arms down looking at Csk captain's reaction, and declared it as a fair delivery.
However, following Reiffel's change of mind, Srh captain David Warner was seen gesturing angrily from the dugout. Shahbaz Nadeem, who was standing at the non-striker's end, was also seen having a word with the Australian about the wide call that was not.
In the end, Srh fell short...
