Anthony Padilla is reuniting with Smosh–and he, along with Smosh co-founder Ian Hecox, are buying the digital comedy brand from Rhett & Link.
Padilla and Hecox met in sixth grade and were still best friends when they first launched Smosh on YouTube in 2005. Together they amassed dozens of cast and crew members, millions of subscribers, and became one of the most recognizable creator-led media companies in online video.
But then, in 2017, Padilla left. He cited creative differences, but it was clear there was also a rift between him and Hecox.
“By the time Anthony left Smosh, our friendship was not really that good,” Hecox told Variety. Last year, the duo got back in touch, and “really hit it off,” he added. “It’s kind of freaky how well this has all fallen into place. Our friendship had to end to be able to come back together.”

For those who find the main SourceFed channel to be not-quite geeky enough for their tastes, SourceFedNERD is a prime destination. Nerd, which launched in 2013 as the latest extension of Philip DeFranco's digital brand, has surpassed one million subscribers by providing its viewers with news about pop culture franchises, entertaining tabletop gaming sessions, and a copious amount of alcohol consumption. Beyond those content categories, Nerd also appeals to its fans by featuring a diverse cast of witty hosts. Here's one of those hosts -- Sam Bashor -- as well as SourceFedNERD Programming Director Joel Rubin on the big returns their channel has seen.
Tubefilter: How does it feel to have one million subscribers on Nerd? What do you have to say to your fans?
SourceFedNERD: We can’t believe we made it to one million subscribers – the feeling is indescribable. We’ve got the best fans on YouTube, from...

Rooster Teeth is giving its fans more gaming content to consume through an all-new channel based not in Texas, but on the West Coast. The Austin production company famous for animated web series like Red vs. Blue and Rwby has launched the Funhaus channel which will create content from Rooster Teeth’s newly-formed Los Angeles office.
Funhaus will feature content from gaming veterans Adam Kovic, Bruce Greene, Lawrence Sonntag, James Willems, Joel Rubin, Matt Peake, and Sean Poole. The seven cast members are already known online from Machinima’s old Inside Gaming department, and have previously appeared on season two of Rooster Teeth’s competition show The Gauntlet.
The Funhaus guys will not only play games on their channel, but will also release a podcast, cover related events, participate in fan Q&A sessions, contribute to Rooster Teeth’s news show The Know, and appear on Rooster Teeth’s video podcast.
