After a little over than two years on the job, Christina Norman is leaving as CEO of Own: Oprah Winfrey Network. Peter Liguori, COO of Discovery Communications, who has been hands-on involved in the fledgling network, a co-venture between Discovery and Winfrey's Harpo, will serve as interim CEO while continuing in his Discovery role. CBS Television Distribution president John Nogawski went outside the company and outside the syndication world for a successor to Terry Wood, president of creative affairs and development, who recently departed Ctd after 12 years. Aaron Meyerson, whose background is in cable reality TV, digital media and features, has been named president, programming and development for CBS TV Distribution. He will be responsible for all first-run development and will oversee Ctd’s current programming, including veterans Entertainment Tonight, Judge Judy and Rachael Ray. Nogawski acknowledged Meyerson's unorthodox background in his statement. “Having developed hit shows for Oxygen and MTV, Aaron brings a new sensibility to the syndication marketplace," Nogawski said. "He comes to us with a fresh set of eyes, knowledge of our core female audience and an acumen for creating new financial models for production." She most recently oversaw development of Ctd's Swift Justice with Nancy Grace, this season's highest-rated first-year show, and the hire of Nancy O'Dell to succeed Mary Hart on Entertainment Tonight. "Over the past twelve years, Terry has made substantial and lasting contributions to CBS Television Distribution and helped define the current face of daytime television in the process. Daytime syndicated talk show "Rachael Ray" has been renewed through the 2011-12 season after the ABC Owned TV Stations inked a deal to pick up the Emmy-winning show for two more seasons.
Now in its third season, "Rachael Ray" has been cleared in almost 60% of the country through 2012, or the talker's sixth season.
"Viewers really responded to our initial idea to expand Rachael beyond the kitchen and turn it into a hit daytime show," said Terry Wood, president of programming for CBS TV Distribution, which distributes and produces "Rachael Ray" in association with Harpo Prods., Scripps Networks and Watch Entertainment.
"Rachael Ray," winner of the best talk show Daytime Emmy Award last year, is nominated for four 2009 Daytime Emmys including best talk show and best talk show host.
Janet Annino is the show's executive producer, with Joseph Freed and Shane Farley serving as senior supervising producer and supervising producer, respectively.
