San Francisco, Dec 4 (Ians) The US Army paused a planned sponsorship with Activision Blizzard’s Call of Duty (CoD) esports league after allegations of sexual harassment at its workplace came to light, the media reported.
The US Army allocated millions of dollars to sponsor a wide range of esports tournaments, individual ‘Call of Duty’, according to a report in Vice citing internal documents.
The Army aimed to spend 750,000 on the official ‘Call of Duty League Esports’ tournament, streaming service Paramount+, and the Halo TV show, which aired on Paramount+.
The US Army also planned to spend 200,000 on sponsoring the mobile version of Call of Duty, including with “reward-based inventory”, said the report.
However, the US Army “ordered a stop of all spending with Call of Duty’s publisher Activision after the company faced a wave of sexual harassment complaints”.

San Francisco, Oct 3 (Ians) Gaming company Activision Blizzard’s chief compliance officer, Frances Townsend, is stepping down after several sexual assault allegations surfaced at the company.
She is stepping down from her role after hundreds of employees last year criticised her response to workers’ sexual harassment complaints, a charge Townsend has denied.
Townsend will still serve as an advisor to the board and the embattled Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick, reports Wall Street Journal.
Townsend joined the Call of Duty (CoD) game maker in March 2021 as executive vice president for corporate affairs, corporate secretary and chief compliance officer.
She will no longer be an employee and “her deputies will be promoted to fill the positions she held”.
Townsend, an ex-counterterrorism official under former US President George W. Bush, was tasked with helping Activision deal with state and federal probes into allegations of gender bias and sexual harassment at the company,...

One might think that after the truly egregious errors made in coverage of the Newtown tragedy in December, major news outlets would reevaluate their policies about being first vs. being accurate. But here we are with another tragedy, and another flub by a major network.
On Wednesday, CNN reported that an arrest had been made in the Boston bombing case, and that a "dark-skinned male" seen walking away from the scene in video footage from a Lord & Taylor store was the suspect. According to the network, a "source" in federal law enforcement source told CNN's Fran Townsend that someone was arrested.
It wasn't just CNN. Fox News "confirmed" that an arrest had been made. The Associated Press said that a "subject was in custody."
NBC's Pete Williams insisted that no arrest had been made, but there were individuals of interest identified by the FBI. Later, as more news outlets reported...

Wednesday afternoon has seen a flurry of contradictory reports about the status of an alleged suspect in the Boston Marathon bombing, but for the past hour or so, CNN has been going all-in with sources that said an arrest had already been made. A few minutes ago, though, CNN's chyron went from "Sources: Arrest In Boston Bombing" to "Defcon: Oh, Crap," as CNN contributor Tom Fuentes came on the air to tell Anderson Cooper that two "highly-placed sources" say there has been no arrest, followed by Fran Townsend reporting that "two administration officials" have confirmed that there has been no arrest.

A suspect has been arrested for the Boston Marathon explosions. Authorities arrested a man after a ‘dark-skinned male’ was seen in surveillance footage carrying and dropping a black bag at the second explosion scene.
Two days after a massive explosion claimed the lives of three and injured at least 183 people at the Boston Marathon on April 15, authorities have arrested a suspect. A dark skinned man in a dark shirt has been seen on surveillance footage dropping a black bag right where the second explosion occurred. He has been taken to court.

On Wednesday, CNN's John King and Fran Townsend cited law enforcement officials who stated that an arrest was made in the Boston Marathon bombing investigation. FoxNews.com followed with a report confirming that an arrest had been made. And the Associated Press reported that a suspect was in custody and on the way to a federal court. The Boston police department and the FBI refuted the claims. In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, CNN defended its initial report: "CNN had three credible sources on both local and federal levels. Based on this information we reported our findings.
