The instinct of a decent human being is always to stop if you see someone else in trouble. In our exclusive clip from Last Man Club, that's exactly what an older gentleman in uniform (James MacKrell) does when he sees another car veer off a highway and flip over. The situation quickly turns potentially dire when a young woman (Kate French) pulls out a gun and starts shooting -- thus the warning in my headline above -- but don't worry! It's all going to turn out Ok. At least, that's what the official synopsis says: WWII veteran John "Eagle" Pennell is a day away from being sent to a retirement home. He escapes in his late wife's 1958 Ford Fairlane and embarks on a cross-country...

Feeling wide awake while asleep, she can't move... and she's not alone. Anna Parker's sleep paralysis strikes with a supernatural slant in Echoes, the feature film writing and directing debut of Nils Timm. With Echoes now available on Blu-ray and DVD from Anchor Bay Entertainment, we had a chance to talk with Timm, who discussed taking a unique approach to the haunted house sub-genre, portraying the different social masks people wear in real life, his personal brush with sleep paralysis during filming, and much more.
What attracted you to the subject of sleep paralysis?
Nils Timm: Before I wrote Echoes, I was researching a lot of stories about lucid dreaming. I was experimenting with that a little bit myself, read everything about it, and interviewed several people in circles of friends and colleagues about this. At least one out of every six or seven people would say, ‘Yes,...

In the indie horror game, narrative storytelling is everything. Even on the tightest budget, with the most inexperienced actors, a filmmaker can still pump out the next big genre “thing” as long as it’s a story worth telling. Granted, the other aspects can’t equate to kindergarten bullshit and film school inexperience, but when a story is That tasty, so indulgently succulent and juicy, it’s hard to keep from scarfing it down.
With that said, Echoes is not horror’s next smash hit. It lacks the creative ingenuity of It Follows, the charm of Turbo Kid, and the practical goriness of Stitches, but it’s interesting enough to keep viewers at attention for a brisk hour and a half. I know that doesn’t sound like a ringing endorsement, but compared to the heap of sloppy continuity-inept nightmares I’ve been forced to sit through recently, Nils Timm...

Read More: Are Indie Horror Movies In Trouble? Written and directed by Nils Timm, "Echoes" follows young writer Anna (Kate French), who struggles with terrifying, sleep-paralysis induced visions. Ana goes on a retreat with her boyfriend (Steven Brand) to an isolated yet stunning glass house in the desert. Hoping her surroundings will induce some creative inspiration, Anna stays behind while her boyfriend returns to the city for business. As evident from the trailer, despite the calming environment of the desert, Anna's sleep paralysis does not cease. Anna fears she is losing her mind as her attacks are accompanied by a terrifying figure that appears to be made of dried mud. "I know what I've seen," she tells her boyfriend. The film seems like it will be an interesting take on the dreams vs. reality trope, and as an added bonus, the cinematography looks beautiful. An official selection of the New York City...

Title: Language of a Broken Heart Director: Rocky Powell Starring: Juddy Talt, Lara Pulver, Kate French, Julie White, Ethan Cohn, Oscar Nuñez “Language of a Broken Heart” is exactly the movie that one expects it to be — a frustrating quality for some, perhaps, but smooth medicine for those who trust and like writer-actors’ puppy dog tales that unfold loosely in the vein of the work of Edward Burns. An earnest, uncomplicated and funny-around-the-edges little romantic comedy about a guy on the rebound but still stuck in psychological orbit of his ex, multi-hyphenate Juddy Talt’s movie works best as a showcase for his talents. If you like horror suspense, slow-burn thriller style, the producers of The Red House say they’ve got something that's right up your alley. And with post-production just wrapping, it won't be long before you can get The Red House in your house.
Take a look at a few stills, posters, and the cool trailer below. It starts a little slowly but, like the film itself, builds to rush. (And I saw at least two shots in there that screamed Black Christmas; anybody else catch them?) It's written and directed by Gregory Avellone.
That's all we've heard so far on this one, but the trailer definitely makes The Red House look like it has potential. More as we get it!

Tammi Sutton is one of the busiest people working in horror today. Having covered what seems like every aspect of the filmmaking process from being a director, producer, production designer, art designer, costume designer, actress, heck she is even editing one of her upcoming films! Is there anything that this bright up and comer can't tackle?!? Judging by her resume, no! I recently had the chance to ask her a few questions about her latest genre film, Sutures. It is refreshing to have another female voice directing in the horror genre. What made you want to start making horror films?
I've loved watching horror films all my life. I watched a lot of Universal, Hammer and Amicus Horror films growing up and of course all the drive-in, exploitation stuff of the seventies as I got older, they've all had a lasting impression. Movies were where most kids connected to the...

In 2009, the number of leading lesbian characters on primetime broadcast TV doubled — from one to two.
Out of the estimated 600 lead and supporting characters on network TV, seven of them of are lesbian or bisexual. And of those seven, five of them kissed women last year. And of those five, three of them made out during Sweeps.
Things looked bleak at the beginning of the year, but with the growing trend of lesbian brides getting gunned down or cheating on their wedding days, and the continued trend of bisexual characters only expressing their same-sex attraction during Sweeps, and the loss of Showtime's lesbian drama The L Word, we're ending the year on a downward spiral in terms of lesbian visibility.

"I and Love and You," the seventh episode of One Tree Hill's seventh season, is worth watching for so many reasons. For one thing, lead star James Lafferty is the one who directed the episode so that alone should be interesting to see. Fans will also get a kick out of Nathan's scandal as Dan (Paul Johannson) brings Renee (Kate French) onto his television show, leaving Nathan (James Lafferty) and Haley (Bethany Joy Galeotti) powerless to stop him from revealing the truth of her pregnancy to the world.

Next week, "One Tree Hill" will still be circling around the scandal involving Nathan but a solution is coming from one person. Dan makes a call to Nathan to tell him that he has come to knowledge about the problem he faces. Nathan, still unwilling to accept Dan, said "We don't know you and stay away from me and my family." Later on Dan takes the matter into his own hands by meeting Renee and giving her a proposition.
Meanwhile, Haley is thrust into the spotlight and storm of Nathan's growing scandal, and is seen in the preview getting arrested. Against her better judgment, Brooke allows Julian to continue working with Alex. Millicent gets a new job, which may cause trouble for Mouth. Meanwhile, Clay and Quinn grow closer.
The episode called "Your Cheatin' Heart" is going to air on Monday, October 12. Kate French guest stars as Renee.

Auto-Straddle’s Daily Fix (which you should add to your blog reader immediately) linked an interview from Inked magazine that features two lovely L Word ladies, Kate French and Kristanna Loken, and the tattoos they love.
French, who got her first tattoo when she was 17, has lyrics from Ryan Adams’ song “Blue Hotel” inked on her ribcage: “Go on and rain down on us because I give up.”
Her favorite tattoo, however, is the one on the inside of her right arm: “Remember to breathe.” No doubt, that came in handy when she was under the covers with Jenny.
Most of Loken’s tattoos are symbols from voodoo, which she says got a bad rap because slaves who practiced the religion used to put hexes on their owners.
Has anyone seen Michelle Rodriguez lately?
Several of Loken’s tattoos have come as a way to celebrate finishing a project. She...

A week away from the return of "Gossip Girl" on TV screen, The CW have released a clip that features the re-appearance of Carter Baizen (guest star Sebastian Stan). Upon arriving at a restaurant, Chuck spotted Carter dining with a woman whom he recognized as Elle.
Kate French who plays Elle dished out the relationship between her character and Chuck, saying "Elle kind of steals Chuck Bass' heart, and it gets really complicated, and he gets entangled in all of these webs of lies and different storylines that are going on. It's very mysterious." Meanwhile, Carter is brought back to help Chuck in winning over Blair.
The March 16 episode is titled "The Age of Dissonance", a reference to the play "The Age of Innocence" which will be put in production by the students of Constance Billard and St. Jude. Serena develops a crush on the play's director, Julian (guest star...

Hey, is something happening this Sunday night? I feel like I keep forgetting an important event. No? Well then maybe that would be the perfect night to disassemble my television and see if I can put it back together again. You know, for kicks since nothing else is happening — oh, wait, that's right. The one and only hourlong dramatic series about lesbians is ending after six years. Sheesh. How could I forget? You'd think I bumped my head while diving into the deep end of a pool or something.

While Fired Up! is a teen sex comedy that's mostly got hete-romance on its mind, you can't make a movie set at cheerleading camp without throwing in some gay characters.
Read on to find out more!
You can tell there's a no-holds-barred, R-rated raunchy farce just bursting at Fired Up!'s PG-13 seams, but the new movie still makes a pretty hilarious Oscar weekend alternative to duty-bound attendance at Frost/Nixon or The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. And Fired Up! definitely gets a Spirit Stick for making its queer characters both funny and never the butt of the joke. They include:
John Michael Higgins
The always-brilliant John Michael Higgins as camp leader Coach Keith. While he's ostensibly married to Diora (Molly Sims), he seems way more enthusiastic about seeing the film's leads Nick (Eric Christian Olsen) and Shawn (Nicolas D'Agosto) doing naked cheers with strategically-placed pompons. A chunk of "Gossip Girl" upcoming episode is given out as a preview. Chuck seeks the assistance of Vanessa and Nate to help him recalling the evening that he lost memory of. Chuck wakes up half naked on the floor of a hotel room and doesn't remember what happened to him or who he was with.
Nate, and Vanessa try to help him fill in the missing pieces of what is turning out to be an increasingly intriguing mystery. In the previous released promo, Chuck said that he has a memory of "the most beautiful girl" he has ever seen during the mysterious night. This girl is presumably played by Kate French who was reported earlier to have secured a 3-episodes starring role.

Actress Kate French seems to have her finger on the pulse of the lesbian zeitgeist. First, she showed up on our radar as Jenny Schecter's love interest (and star of Lez Girls) on The L Word.
Then she played a cute college co-ed on South of Nowhere. She may have been nowhere near Spashley, but she was involved with the show nonetheless.
Continuing on her quest to guest on shows lesbians love to watch, French has signed on for a three episode arc of Gossip Girl this season.
Now I realize that Gossip Girl has just as many straight viewers as it does gay (the same could arguably be said for The L Word), but I'd really like to think that we make up a good chunk of the audience, and the casting directors know it. They have to — or else they're just really, really good at their jobs.

Things will go further down for Chuck in the next episode of "Gossip Girl". A longer preview of "Gone With the Will" shows the intense situation post Bart's death which brings in Chuck's uncle in town to take care of the legal cases, and possibly, to take over the Bass empire.
With the reading of Bart's will, Chuck, Bart's brother, Jack (guest star Desmond Harrington), and Lily learn the fate of the Bass empire. Rufus and Lily's relationship is strained as Rufus seeks details about the child he never knew he had. "Gone With the Will" airs on The CW on January 12 at 8/7c.
On other news, it has been thrown out by Ok Magazine that Kate French will join the show as a mysterious nanny who gets tangled with Chuck. No word yet on which episode she will appear and how far she contributes to the story line. Kate French...
