On Wednesday, Netflix's first formal Upfronts presentation brought some exciting news for fans of the streaming service's most beloved shows.
Ginny & Georgia, which has been in limbo since January, has secured a pickup for two more seasons, keeping the show on the air through what will likely be the fourth -- and final -- season.
In an exclusive post-mortem interview in January, then-showrunner Debra J. Fisher teased that she and series creator Sarah Lampert had mapped out a four-season run for the show.
The renewal announcement's delay is shocking, especially considering the show has been a strong performer for Netflix.
However, the streaming service confirmed that Sarah Glinski (Degrassi: Next Class) will take over as showrunner from Fisher.
There is no reason for the switcheroo, but fans will be happy knowing the show is returning.
Ginny & Georgia Season 2 concluded with countless cliffhangers, including Georgia being arrested for murder.

Netflix has renewed drama series “Ginny & Georgia” for two more seasons, naming a new showrunner to helm the next installments.
Debra J. Fisher oversaw the first two seasons of the show, which landed on Netflix in January 2021 and December 2022, respectively. The third and fourth seasons will be overseen by former “Degrassi” producer Sarah Glinski.
Glinski’s appointment took place before the Writers Guild of America went on strike.
Last we saw the dynamic mother-daughter duo, Georgia (Brianne Howey) married Mayor Paul Randolph (Scott Porter) in a dreamy wedding ceremony, but the cops interrupted the nuptials by arresting her for the murder of Tom Fuller. Private investigator Gabriel Cordova (Alex Mallari Jr.) finally found proof of Georgia’s past criminal activity as he has been tailing her for two seasons. Updated: Netflix has renewed Ginny & Georgia, starring Brianne Howey and Antonia Gentry, for a third and fourth season. Sarah Glinski (Degrassi: The Next Generation) has been named showrunner for the upcoming seasons. She replaces Debra J. Fisher, who served as showrunner on the first two seasons.
Given Ginny & Georgia’s very strong performance and very appealing economics, the two-season order is not a surprise; Netflix has done it on other series with similar pedigree, including Virgin River.
What is surprising was the four-month wait for a series of that level of ratings success to be renewed. According to sources, the pickup was done awhile ago but held for Netflix’s upfront.
As for the showrunner change, there had been rumors about friction between Fisher and Ginny & Georgia creator Sarah Lampert. By April, there was speculation that Fisher would be departing the series.

Netflix is keeping Ginny & Georgia — one of its most popular series of 2023 to date — around for a while.
The streamer has picked up two more seasons of the mother-daughter dramedy starring Brianne Howey and Antonia Gentry. The renewal will take Ginny & Georgia through its fourth season. Along with the pickup, the series has also tapped a new showrunner in Sarah Glinski (Degrassi: The Next Generation). Glinski, who was hired before the Writers Guild of America began its strike, will take over for Debra J. Fisher, who ran the first two seasons.
The show’s second season, released Jan. 5, ended on a cliff-hanger. Fisher told The Hollywood Reporter that based on the ending, “season three is going to be a big roller coaster.” She also noted that when she and series creator Sarah Lampert pitched the show, they did so with four seasons in mind.

The Wellsbury Peaches are here to stay for at least two more seasons.
Netflix has ordered a third and fourth season of “Ginny & Georgia.” The streamer shared the announcement on Wednesday during this year’s Upfronts presentation.
Created by Sarah Lampert, the dramedy follows Ginny (Antonia Gentry), a 15-year-old who is more mature than her 30-year-old mother, Georgia (Brianne Howey) in a New England town, where Georgia decided to settle down with her daughter and son, Ginny and Austin (Diesel La Torraca). Jennifer Robertson, Felix Mallard, Sara Waisglass, Scott Porter and Raymond Ablack also star.
In January, Season 2 ratings for the Netflix drama took down “Wednesday” for the No. 1 spot on the Netflix Top 10 English TV List with 180.47 million hours viewed following its debut, making it the most-watched title on the streamer for the week of Jan. 2-8. Netflix will premiere Season 5 of its Emmy-nominated dating show Love Is Blind in September. The news was announced Wednesday as part of Netflix’s virtual upfront presentation.
Love Is Blind follows a series of single men and women from one specific metropolitan area (most recently Seattle in Season 4) as they go on blind speed dates within adjoined rooms called “pods,” getting engaged without ever seeing one another face to face.
The hugely popular show, hosted by Vanessa and Nick Lachey, was among the most streamed series in April on Netflix, just behind No. 1 The Night Agent.
What was to be a live reunion special to close out Season 4 did not happen due to “technical difficulties” and aired some 19 hours later, but the special, taped in front of an in-person audience, pulled strong ratings with 6.5 million viewers, according to Netflix.
Love Is Blind was renewed through Season 5 back in March 2022.

Virgin River fans will have to wait a little longer for Season 5, which will premiere this fall, Netflix announced in conjunction with its first ever upfront presentation Wednesday. And there is more news about the popular romantic drama, starring Alexandra Breckenridge and Martin Henderson — it is getting an early Season 6 pickup.
While it may be unexpected, the early renewal is not surprising.
Virgin River, based on the bestselling book series by Robyn Carr, has been among Netflix’s most successful series. Its most recent fourth season amassed 277 million hours viewed in its first 28 days, on par with Season 3, and held the top spot in the streamer’s Top 10 for two weeks.

If you’re a Canadian under the age of 40, you’ve never known a world without “Degrassi.” One of television’s most globally iconic shows, the teen soap opera has been on the air in one form or another since 1979. And that’s thanks to the hard work of creator Linda Schuyler, who brought the show to life, as she explains below, because she was so frustrated by the fact that the junior high school kids she was teaching had no television made specifically for them.

Degrassi is known for tackling the complex issues that high school students face. Subjects such as teen pregnancy, drugs, school shooting and rape are all showcased, although usually handled in a conservative way. The creatives of the show, Linda Schuyler (Creator & Ep), Stephen Stohn (Ep), Stefan Brogren (Director & Cast) and Sarah Glinski (Writer & Ep) were on hand at today’s TCA to speak about tackling those issues on Netflix’s less restrictive platform. “We've…...

MONTREAL -- It was time for some dealmaking, deal talk and talent buzz as the industry phase of the 25th annual Just for Laughs comedy festival came to an end during the weekend.
On the deal front, Canadian stand-ups Nick Beaton and Gerry Dee got agency representation after well-received performances, and Heidi Foss and Sarah Glinski walked away with CBC development deals for their TV show pitches built around siblings.
Foss' comedy idea "Four Minutes Apart", about an anti-establishment female stand-up who moves in with her upwardly mobile brother and his family, and Glinski's "Sibling Rivalry", about a young woman's changing relationship with her younger brother, convinced CBC head of comedy Anton Leo at the annual Just For Pitching panel.
It was the first time that the CBC had promised to pick at least one of the nine pitches for a development deal.
Meanwhile, the Gersh Agency signed Dee, a finalist on NBC's "Last Comic Standing", and Beaton, both currently based in Toronto.
Beaton, the runner-up Wednesday in the festival's annual Homegrown Competition of Canadian comics, entertained the audience with jokes about funny T-shirts and his Nick Beaton rules for girls.
Dee earned laughs with jokes about his teaching experience and married life.
