It’s only December 2 and we have two more episodes after this before Christmas, but this week’s “Saturday Night Live” still opened with a “Christmas Carol” homage featuring Alec Baldwin. Despite seeming to jump the gun a little bit, seasonally, it’s one of the more incisive cold opens in a little while, pounding hard at Donald Trump’s most recent string of missteps.
Afterwards, though, it was an episode devoted to having fun with a fresh face who proved game for all sorts of wackily colored wigs and character moments. If it weren’t for her opening monologue and the fact that U2 was the musical guest, you’d hardly know she was Irish.

Mark Hamill recently sat down with the New York Times to talk about life and Star Wars to promote Star Wars: The Last Jedi. The interview reveals a lot of interesting points about Hamill, including his time on Broadway as well as custom shirts he and his other Star Wars co-stars had made after a less than stellar review came out. The most telling thing for me though was that Hamill was not as ecstatic about reprising the role of Luke Skywalker for the new trilogy (that started with Star Wars: The Force Awakens in 2015) as Carrie Fisher was. The article goes on to say:
.When Mr. Lucas said their characters would be included in these new films if they wanted to play them, Mr. Hamill said, “I was completely stunned. Carrie, not a minute went by — she slapped the table and goes, ‘I’m in!’ I said, ‘Carrie, poker face!

This is going to be one of the shortest reviews one is certain to encounter when reading about Denis Villeneuve’s ‘Blade Runner 2049′ and with good reason: the power of it comes from how little you know going into the theater. Not only that, but, to take a moment of humility, I feel uncertainty in how to properly convey such a cinematic experience. But to overcome that and cut to the chase: ‘Blade Runner 2049’ is one of a small handful of masterpieces produced by 2017 and well on its way to becoming an iconic film in its own right.

It’s been thirty years since disillusioned blade runner Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford) “retired” violent replicants and disappeared into a self-imposed exile with the experimental replicant Rachael (Sean Young) into the grimy night of dystopian Los Angeles and a great deal has happened in the world.

Just like as quickly as Indy snatches the hat away from Shia Labeouf at the end of Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Indiana Jones 5 writer David Koepp snatches Lebeouf’s character, Mutt, from the sequel. And that’s probably a good thing.
David Koepp confirmed that Harrison Ford will reprise his role as Indiana Jones and that “the Shia Labeouf character is not in the film.” Koepp even went on to say:
“We’re plugging away at it. In terms of when we would start, I think that’s up to Mr. Spielberg and Mr. Ford,” he continues, playfully teasing that the plot will involve “some precious artifact that they’re all looking for” throughout the film. “I know we’ve got a script we’re mostly happy with. Work will be endless, of course, and ongoing, and Steven just finished shooting The Post …. If the stars align, hopefully...

I recently rewatched Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull for the first time since I first watched it in theaters. It was actually a little better than I remember it being, but for the most part, it was still a dud and the worst film in the franchise. Like many of you, one of the characters that I couldn't stand was Shia Labeouf’s Mutt Williams, who is Indiana Jones' son. If you didn't care for the character either, you'll be happy to know that there will be no place for him in Indiana Jones 5.
During a recent interview with EW, screenwriter David Koepp talked about the next chapter of the Indiana Jones story and confirmed Mutt will not be in the movie:
"Harrison plays Indiana Jones, that I can certainly say… and the Shia Labeouf character is not in the film."

When Indiana Jones 5 finally swings into theaters in 2020, Shia Labeouf won’t be a part of Steven Spielberg’s action-adventure sequel.
Word comes by way of Entertainment Weekly, after the outlet caught up with screenwriter and all-around franchise veteran David Koepp to discuss what’s next for Harrison Ford’s swashbuckling archaeologist, particularly after the markedly underwhelming Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
Released almost a decade ago, Spielberg’s franchise revival didn’t fare particularly well with audiences, who deemed the wacky reboot to be a far cry from the blood-pumping Indy adventures of old. Mind you, Kingdom of the Crystal Skull did manage to score respectable reviews, while also introducing Shia Labeouf’s Mutt Williams to the beloved franchise. Still riding high after his back-to-back performances in Transformers, Labeouf was arguably one of the most sought-after rising stars of 2008, before his name was mired in controversy following a...

For fans of the Indiana Jones franchise, the last film, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, was met with heavy criticism. Besides the fact that folks didn't care too much for the aliens in the film, another aspect that annoyed fans was Shia Labeouf's Mutt Williams. The character was revealed to be the son of Indiana Jones and Marion Ravenwood, but he never seemed to really fit into the franchise, and left most fans bitter. Screenwriter of the yet-untitled fifth Indiana Jones installment, David Koepp, gave fans some relief while speaking with Entertainment Weekly.
“Harrison plays Indiana Jones, that I can certainly say… and the Shia Labeouf character is not in the film. We’re plugging away at it. In terms of when we would start, I think that’s up to Mr. Spielberg and Mr. Ford… I know we’ve got a script we’re mostly happy with.

It’s a moment that’s still being talked about by fans of AMC’s The Walking Dead the world over, and the repercussions of which still echo throughout the show to this day. We’re referring to the season 7 premiere, of course, where Negan mercilessly beat two main characters to death, and Abraham (Michael Cudlitz) was the first to feel the wrath of the villain’s barbed wire-wrapped baseball bat, Lucille.
Though Glenn’s demise was ultimately more disturbing to witness, fans of the comic already expected that, so Abraham’s violent end was arguably more shocking. Plus, though the tough-as-nails former soldier went out like a champ, his final peace sign to his new lover Sasha made the scene even more poignant.
Cudlitz recently appeared on The Skybound Insider’s show with The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman and while there, the actor revealed what he felt would...

Jose here. I'm glad to report that as the temperatures come down, slightly, so do the hemlines, which means it's red carpet season! <3 So let's get down to business! First up in Venice we have Eva Herzigova in a sheer, but elegant, Alberta Ferreti. The Italian designer's bold work usually pops up in Venetian red carpets and Herzigova's simple styling make us think she's equally ready for a fancy cocktail party, as she is for lounging poolside. Next up the divine Emma Stone in Atelier Versace, who more and more seems to be paying homage to red carpet goddess Nicole Kidman and you won't hear me complain about that.
European red carpets tend to be more playful which is why it's no surprise to see Chiara Mastroianni in this androgynous suit from Gucci, the smoky makeup and severe hair round up one of my favorite looks of the year. Since...

Han Solo is hitting the bench. Harrison Ford is expected to miss as many as eight weeks of production on "Star Wars: Episode VII" after breaking his ankle on set, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. The actor was taken to a hospital on Thursday after being injured by the door of the Millenium Falcon, Solo's prized spacecraft from the original trilogy that will be making a return in the Jj Abrams-directed followup. Production will continue on in his absence and the film is still expected to make its December 18, 2015 release date. Ford is one of several actors set to reprise his role from the first three "Star Wars" films, a list that also includes Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Peter Mayhew, Kenny Baker and Anthony Daniels. New cast members include John Boyega, Lupita Nyong'o, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Daisy Ridley and Max von Sydow. "Star Wars: Episode VII...

When we last chatted, there were few new rumours flying around, save for a sure shooting date. As much as genres like Westerns and musicals, the social issue historical drama often arrives in theatre as part of a cycle, one strong box office performance spurring on other producers’ projects. Sometimes a cycle can be re-started thanks to real-world events. The civil rights movement prodded the studios into releasing films that addressed the headlines, films like In The Heat Of The Night and Guess Who’S Coming To Dinner (and of course, the rise of the “blaxplotation” low-budget flicks) in the late sixties. By the mid 1970′s, most of the studios rarely tackled race relations, until a few late 80′s films like Driving Miss Daisy and the incendiary Do The Right Thing. But that subject popped up again just a few years ago, perhaps in part in response to the 2008 presidential elections. Most of these new films took a look at race through the lens of still fairly recent history.

Hold on to your blasters, Harrison Ford is set to reprise his iconic portrayal of everyone’s favorite intergalactic space smuggler, Han Solo, when cameras roll early next year on Star Wars: Episode VII.
While Lucasfilm has yet to reveal official casting news, the cantankerous Ford all but confirmed his participation in the upcoming Star Wars film during a recent appearance on the U.K. chat-fest The Graham Norton Show. Despite non-committals from insiders at both Lucasfilm and Disney, the casting of Ford seems all but assured (with a few interesting caveats, of course).
Although it is common knowledge amongst the Star Wars-fan community that Ford found the character of Han Solo not to his liking (to put it mildly), word comes that he has agreed to pilot the Millennium Falcon one more time, if (and that’s a big if), work were to progress on a fifth Indiana Jones adventure.

After Frisky Dingo's brief Mr. Ford cameo, Adam Reed finally got to do his big crossover episode with Sealab 2021 during tonight's "Sea Tunt: Part 2."
So how did Jon Hamm do in filling the shoes as the voice of Captain Murphy?
Murphy, like many villains in the Archer-universe, was hardly the most dangerous man of the night. Even as the captain threatened to unload nerve gas missiles against the eastern seaboard, it was Randy Magnum and his 3.5 gallons of booze that really got in the way. That, and Krieger's cocaine-induced gun mods.
Hamm's Murphy, despite holding a knife to Lana's neck, certainly redeemed himself when it was revealed he merely had a psychotic breakdown, lacked any actual missiles... and even helped the Isis plan their escape Sea Lab.
But, honestly, Hamm never quite captured the ridiculousness that was the real Captain Murphy. Nor did he really sound like himself.

As Ne change rien played, I sat and waited with Costa in the bar of London's Ica cinema and, with a tape rolling on the table, we started to talk.
David Jenkins: How does the projection look?
Pedro Costa: It's great. It must be the projectionist. The sound and the image are perfectly balanced. The other day I got hold of the first Dcp of Historic Centre and the girl who screened our test was the popcorn girl. Which is okay, but.

Superlatives are part and parcel of the entertainment industry, particularly with regard to cinema. Words such as "extraordinary," "superb," "amazing," and "best" are tossed around so often that they lose their meaning when applied to film. And it is a given that award ceremonies – Oscars, Emmys, Tonys, Grammys, etc. -- are hopelessly arbitrary, and mostly a promotional tool. Even award ceremonies based on "peer" review (e.g., Screen Actors Guild awards) are largely promotional "mutual admiration society" events.
However, there are some aspects of filmdom for which there is "hard" evidence. One of these is the term "highest-grossing." Even if revenue numbers are not exact to the penny, they are usually close enough to determine which film is "highest-grossing" in a particular year.
But is that same standard applicable to actors, directors and other film personnel? What does it mean that someone is the "highest-grossing actor" in a particular year,...

Wow, let that be an impressive lesson in product placement. On this week's Archer, Sterling received a very impressive spy-modified Dodge Challenger for his birthday.
While Malory quite clearly stated how little Dodge kicked in this episode, it was a still pretty hilarious/shameless shill for the car. Even if they did sub in apple juice for whiskey.
Once Archer's brand new vehicle got stolen, the second half of "Drift Problem" became a strange hybrid of a Fast and Furious movie with a parody of Bluth-style parenting.
Although the special effects and excellent driving by Shiroi Kabocha during the Yakuza chase scenes were fun, Archer's modified limited rampage certainly never reached the heights of his previous full-fledged rampage.
There were some entertaining moments throughout, though, and the great casting of George Takei as a guest voice, but the build up for Malory's stealing of the car just never paid off.

Ender’s Game Adds Han Solo and Zombieland Survivor
It hasn’t been a bad year for actor Harrison Ford, has it? The actor forever remembered as Han Solo of Star Wars, as Indiana Jones, and The Fugitive, is about to take on another high profile sci fi role. Yes, Blade Runner‘s Deckard is headed to the set of Ender’s Game. He’s got company, too!
In 2011, Extraordinary Measures, Morning Glory and Cowboys & Aliens were all released to DVD. That means you can give the gift of Mr. Ford for the holidays. Also this year, now that it is winding to a close, will be remembered for the announcement that Ford is ready for Ender’s Game, along side Asa Butterfield as Ender Wiggin, Hailee Steinfeld as Petra Arkanian and Brendan Meyer as Stilson. Variety also said Abigail Breslin will join in.

Even if you don’t like Westerns, there are at least four or five that must be seen by any civilized person, and since John Ford indisputably made the finest of them all in that most profoundly American genre, one of his would have to be at the top. Which to choose of the 20-odd Western features surviving from the approximately 60 he made between 1917 and 1964, when he directed his last of them? My Darling Clementine (1946)? Fort Apache (1947)? Rio Grande (1950)? The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (1962)? Well, certainly high among the contenders for the crown would be Mr. Ford’s deeply ambiguous, disturbing post-Civil War domestic tragedy set in Texas during the Indian Wars of the late 1860’s, filmed in Technicolor and VistaVision less than a hundred years later, in 1956, starring America’s most enduringly popular Western star, John Wayne, and based on Alan LeMay’s excellent novel, The Searchers (available...

My three-month streak went down in flames, quite the tragedy. Still, some box-office breaking down needs to be done, and we're the ones to do it. Let's get to it! Laremy predicted the #1 movie correctly 0 Weeks In A Row Cowboys and Aliens It's not in 3D, so that will help, right? I've got it penciled in for a healthy $12k per theater, though it won't end up being one of the top ten openings of 2011 at this rate. I'd say there are a few issues working against Cowboys and Aliens. It's not a franchise, it's a hybrid western, and Daniel Craig hasn't been a draw outside of the Bond franchise. You'd think Harrison Ford would pull in an older demo, but the alien aspect may keep them away.
Speaking of Mr. Ford, do you recall the last time he had a non-Indy film take in $100m at the box office?...

With Cowboys & Aliens right around the corner, what better way to celebrate the Our Favorite Action Scenes day of the week than with an iconic Harrison Ford moment? Ford is awesome when flinging his bullwhip in Indian Jones or firing a blaster in Star Wars, but Mr. Ford has no problem taking out the bad guy with nothing but, well, the presidency. When Ivan Korshunov (Gary Oldman) and a band of Soviet terrorists hijack Air Force One, it’s not the Secret Service that comes to the rescue, rather President James Marshall (Ford) himself. Spoiler Alert Sure, the actual plane crash is one of the most horrific uses of CGI in the technology’s history as is the part during which Ford dangles from the cord of a rescue plane and we catch a glimpse of a failed attempt at...

I've been doing this job now for about 11-to-12 years and a few years ago lost the ability to "geek out" around celebrities. They're just people and, sometimes, not very nice people. So it's always best to keep your expectations in check and remain professional. But then you go and meet Harrison Ford... I had only briefly met Mr. Ford back during the Indiana Jones 4 tour and didn't get the chance to speak with him. But as Cowboys & Aliens came around, I was invited to a...

Cowboys & Aliens may turn out to be just the first step in Harrison Ford's foray into westerns with a new spin. He's now attached to play an aging Wyatt Earp in a film called Black Hats, which is based on the book of the same name penned by Max Allan Collins under the pen nam Patrick Culhane. The story involves not only Earp, but the son of Doc Holliday and a young Al Capone. THR [1] says that Kurt Johnstad (300, 300: The Battle of Artemisia) will script based on the book. The story, which is a fictional story blended with a bit of fact, is perhaps more of a thriller than a western, as Mr. Ford would play an older Earp working as a Pi and film consultant in La. He connects with the son of Doc Holliday, who is entangled with the dealings of rising crime figure Al Capone.

Remember when Arrested Development ended and the writers crammed as many running jokes as possible into the last few episodes of the final season, providing some of the best episodes in the series' entire run? Tonight's Archer was very much like that. For a show known for it's joke repetition, it really outdid itself this evening.
After Mallory looses most of her money in a ponzi scheme, she tries to sell off Isis to rival spy agency Odin. Once Archer catches wind of this he and the office drones enact a plan to derail the sale.
Tonight also marked the return of Dr. Krieger, the perverse, drug addicted Isis version of James Bond's Q. Krieger is known for being constantly high or drunk on the job, inventing sex robots and dosing (and eventually overdosing) Danny the intern with a drug that changes one's sexual orientation. Krieger played a pivotal role...

He began his career as “Harry Ford,” appearing in George Lucas’ American Graffiti, Francis Ford Coppola’s The Conversation and Apocalypse Now, before working as a carpenter when the acting gigs dried up. Then came Han Solo, Indiana Jones and suddenly Harrison Ford was one of America’s greatest movie stars, mixing a Gary Cooper-ish leading man charm with a distinct Everyman aura.
In the wake of a stream of utter disappointments (Six Days, Seven Nights, Firewall, K-19: The Widowmaker), Ford went back to well and donned his famous battered fedora in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. That was a sorely needed hit for Ford, but does it really rate as a comeback? Let’s take a look:
Their Rise
Star Wars – I don’t know if you ever managed to catch this little sci-fi flick, but it put Ford on the map in a massive way.

Hollywood, and everyone else for that matter, was crazy for Harry as the latest installment of the "Harry Potter" series conjured up over $125 million in its opening weekend, well ahead of second place "Megamind." The only other new film in theaters, Russell Crowe's "The Next Three Days," barely cracked the weekend's top five.
10. Fair Game $1.47 million
Fair Game made a surprising jump into the top ten, as the film gets a wider release into more theaters, but chances are it won't be seen in most cineplexes. Even with the star power of Naomi Watts and Sean Penn, the film has yet to create much buzz. The only headlines came from controversy that the true-life story plays fast and loose with the facts, not a good sign.
9. For Colored Girls $2.4 million

Rob Ford, the 10-year Toronto city councillor who campaigned against waste at City Hall, is the new mayor of Toronto, despite months of bad press by local newspapers The Toronto Star and Globe & Mail.
With 80 per cent of polls reporting, Mr. Ford took almost 50 per cent of the vote, compared to 33 per cent for former Ontario deputy premier George Smitherman and 11 per cent for third-place finisher Joe Pantalone, the current deputy mayor.
Early results also indicated major shakeups on council, with numerous incumbents under threat.
Polls closed just after 8 p.m. Et Monday in a series of contested municipal races in Toronto, Ottawa, London, Hamilton, Windsor and other major Ontario cities.
Many experts had predicted that a Ford victory could herald a conservative sweep in next fall's Ontario election.
Throughout the Toronto mayoral campaign, Ford stuck to his now-famous four-word slogan: 'Stop the Gravy Train'...

You know, I was genuinely worried about Harrison Ford‘s career, but he may have found his new shtick: Trying to grow old gracefully. Recently there was Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, which had its flaws, but none of them included Ford’s performance. I liked how his character never seemed to be hiding his age or trying to recapture past glory as an action hero/sex symbol. (How could he, what with all the scowling he does?)
I may also be the only person on the planet who loved, absolutely loved the mock-up town and fridge-nuking scene, in which we got to see a side of Indy we never saw before: That of a man thoroughly out of step with his times, a once-glorious Nazi fighter lost amidst the trappings of pulpy sci-fi.

Brendan Fraser has had a bumpy box office track record since he first came to prominence in 1992 with Encino Man. Audiences have most appreciated him in the adventure arena, namely The Mummy movies, with one family-oriented success in George of the Jungle. Other than that, he's never carried a non-adventure hit on his own. This weekend, he's the sole above-the-title-billed star of Furry Vengeance, a family comedy that sees Mr. Fraser mining the territory of some of his worst-performing movies. Encino Man, a comedy in which Fraser played a thawed-out caveman going to high school, opened on Memorial Day weekend in 1992 and ultimately grossed $40.7 million (or the equivalent of over $75 million adjusted for ticket price inflation). The relative success of the movie launched not only Fraser, but Pauly Shore. Shore's two most successful comedies, Son-in-Law and In the Army Now, featured Mr. Fraser in uncredited cameos as his Encino Man character.

(S06E08) Mr. Ford was back at the center of 'Lost' for this week's installment. The flash-sideways started us off in familiar territory before veering sharply into the unexpected. Pieces and characters are starting to come together a little more in the beta-verse, with lots of interesting potential.
Back in the alpha-verse, we spent the entire episode with MiB-Locke and his motley crew of temple survivors. That meant Kate got to spend some quality time with Claire and the new and subdued Sayid. All in all, it was one of the most uncomfortable scenes I've ever seen on the show. Imagine being surrounded by familiar faces and yet none of them are who they are; it was like some horrible mirror universe sequence.
Sawyer wasn't there for Kate's awkward moment, because he was off on some secret mission for MiB-Locke. A mission that raised even more questions, while setting the...

On Tuesday's Sawyer-centric episode of Lost, UnLocke is sending The Talented Mr. Ford on a mission. From what we've heard, it involves lots of dead bodies and the introduction of a new character — this late in the game? — named Zoe (Sheila Kelley). Other notable guest stars in this hour include: Rebecca Mader, who plays the doomed Charlotte; Neil Hopkins, who plays Charlie's brother Liam; and Jodi Lyn O'Keefe (Prison Break), who plays another new character named Ava. An interesting mix, no?

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies: Dawn of the Dreadfuls

Quirk Books; March 2010; $12.95
A year ago, Seth Grahame-Smith and Quirk Books initiated the Quirk Classics series with the bestselling Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, which blended the text of Jane Austen’s classic Pride and Prejudice with new scenes. The result was part romantic comedy of manners, part over-the-top action thriller in which the bloodthirsty Bennet sisters used their highly trained martial skills to confront zombies and ninjas, in between searching for husbands. Other authors in the series moved on with Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters and the soon-to-be published Android Karenina. Mr. Grahame-Smith has since moved on to other undead pursuits, but here is author Steve Hockensmith to take up the slack with this prequel to P & P & Z, set four years before those fateful events.

The New York Times has a delightful postmortem today about Harold Ford Jr.’s proto-failed senatorial campaign. Step one had been convincing people to vote for him instead of his opponent. This much he had known he had to do. And so, energized with votes of confidence from his fancy pals Ron Perelman and Steve Rattner, Ford traveled from city to city, fruitlessly trying to persuade people to turn on incumbent Kirsten Gillibrand: Rubén Díaz Jr., the Bronx borough president, told Mr. Ford between bites of an omelet at a diner near his office, ‘It’s difficult to make a strong case against her here.’ Ms. Gillibrand, he explained, had just secured $4 million worth of federal stimulus money to train his constituents for green jobs. Mr. Ford knew that some liberals would attack his relatively conservative voting record but, those he spoke with said, he was taken aback by the...
