Exclusive: Tom Hanks has endorsed Fran Drescher for president of SAG-AFTRA. He’s also backing her running mate, Anthony Rapp, and “their entire team” of candidates running on the ruling parties’ Unite for Strength and Usan slates.
“The future of SAG-AFTRA is streaming,” Hanks is quoted as saying on the front of a Usan voter guide sent to the union’s members. “Members deserve stronger contracts, more residuals, better protections and ending unfair exclusivity. I’m supporting Usan Leadership, Fran, Anthony and their entire team. Your vote matters.”
Dresher, who is seeking to succeed Gabrielle Carteris as president of the 160,000-member union, is running against Matthew Modine. He and his running mate, Joely Fisher, head up the opposition party’s MembershipFirst slate.
Other A-list endorsers featured on the voter guide include Alec Baldwin, Debra Messing, J.K. Simmons, Rosario Dawson and Tichina Arnold.

Veteran Fox 11 reporter Hal Eisner said he was “grateful to be alive,” and posted a message of thanks Saturday from Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, where he’s recovering from a vehicle crash.
Eisner, who has been a reporter for 38 years in the city, was reporting on the reopening of the nearby El Capitan theater when a vehicle jumped a curb and crashed through the Hollywood Market Liquor Store on Friday.
He was injured along with four others by the suspected drunk driver of the vehicle.
“As I lay here in a hospital bed at Cedars-Sinai I want to take a minute to say thank you, I love [you], you’re amazing and I’m grateful. I’m grateful to be alive,” he wrote on Facebook.
Fox 11 photographer Joab Perez was also struck by the vehicle.
Eisner sustained a gash on his right hand, a knee fracture, and “serious and painful” back spasms.

Updated with new details: Veteran Los Angeles TV reporter Hal Eisner and his Kttv cameraman Joab Perez operator were among five people injured today when a SUV hit several bystanders on a Hollywood Boulevard sidewalk and crashed into a minimarket storefront.
The cause of the roughly 3:15 p.m. crash is under investigation, but Los Angeles Police said the male driver appeared to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol and was arrested for DUI after failing a field sobriety test. Police said he told them he fell asleep at the wheel.
In her report for the 5 p.m. newscast, an emotional Fox11 reporter Koco McAboy said the crew was working on a story from outside the El Capitan about area movie theaters reopening when the crash occurred. “We’re told that everyone right now has non-life threatening injuries,” she added.

When Wnyw-tv reporter Dan Bowens found himself wiping away an inch of dust from Beta tapes of newscast recordings excavated from the Fox O&O’s archives, he knew he had something.
Bowens is the host of Wnyw’s podcast “The Tape Room,” which focuses on deep dives into unsolved crimes from the New York, New Jersey and Connecticut area. Bowen has found plenty of material just by combing through Wnyw’s vault, which he augments with new interviews with key players in the cases and other investigative efforts.
“It’s extra work but to me these cases are so fascinating,” Bowens tells Variety. “One thing about these old cases — no matter how big they were in the day, the cases fade from the news. Families are happy to hear from you and sometimes they’re more willing to talk and detectives are more willing to talk in the medium of podcasting.
