Newgrange Signs Business Affairs & Development Chiefs
Jackie Larkin’s Newgrange Pictures, part of Finnish film and TV studio Yellow Film & TV, has appointed a business affairs and development boss. Joan Lambe will oversee the company’s financing opportunities and strategic decisions along with aiding with the overall financial planning of the company. Ali Doyle, meanwhile, will work across the existing slate of film and TV projects and new programs. The pair’s past employers include MGM, HBO, Netflix and Wild Atlantic Pictures. “Due to the recent lull in the market following an unstable summer of strikes and general slowdown in the business, the growth plan had to be put on hold,” said Larkin. “But we’re in this for the long game and have seen these peaks and troughs before. Downtown Los Angeles is going through a transformation and East End Capital is planning on building 16 soundstages in the Arts District. The 720-square-foot development would be close to the infamous 6th Street Bridge.
East End Studios filed plans with the city to develop 15 acres of land at 6th and Alameda streets, according to Commercial Observer. The space would not only house 321,530 square feet of studio facilities, but it would include 293,320 square feet of office space, 106,570 square feet of production support, and 1,327 parking spots.
“The existing and proposed amenities in the area, the sheer size of the property, and the billions of dollars of nearby transit investment represented an unmatched opportunity to bring desperately needed modern production space to Los Angeles,” Shep Wainwright, managing partner of East End Studios, said in a statement.
According to Los Angeles Times, the London-based architecture firm Grimshaw had the task of designing the property.

Last year, I wrote an article for Autism Awareness Month, covering three films that focus on this subject matter (those three being Mozart and the Whale, Chocolate and Temple Grandin).
Since last year’s article was well received, I thought that it would be good to do another one this year covering three new films from different countries and genres. If you are interested in reading the previous article, I have added a link at the bottom for you to enjoy.
After Thomas (dir. Simon Shore) – 2006
Based on the book A Friend Like Henry written by Nuala Gardner, this ITV drama focuses on the story of the married couple Rob Graham (Ben Miles) and Nicola Graham (Keeley Hawes) as they struggle to control the behavior of their six-year-old autistic son, Kyle (Andrew Byrne). As Kyle hates everyday social activity, Rob and Nicola have a hard time to communicate with him that also affects their relationship.
