Fox is weighing the future of its non-scripted schedule as series including So You Think You Can Dance, Mental Samurai and First Responders Live remain on the bubble.
The network is still plotting its summer schedule, and president of Alternative and Specials Rob Wade is confident that the “right shows will come back.”
So You Think You Can Dance, which is hosted by Brit Cat Deeley, aired its 16th season in June 2019. Wade said the future of the evergreen format has not been impacted by the order for The Masked Singer spinoff The Masked Dancer or Flirty Dancing.
“The Masked Singer and Dancer feel like very different shows to the classic singing and dancing shows so there’s enough room in the schedule. Look at how many police dramas and medical there are. The Dick Wolf-produced show will move from its original Wednesday 9 p.m. time slot to Tuesdays at 9 p.m. (a spot previously reserved for “9-1-1” reruns) beginning Aug. 6, to make room for “BH90210” — the meta-revival of “Beverly Hills, 90210” — to premiere in the 9 o’clock hour on Aug. 7.

Over the decades that the national park has fascinated the public, there’s an obvious list of animals that get associated with Yellowstone. From nature programs like the ongoing, four-night “Yellowstone Live” event happening this week on NatGeo to the gift shops in and around the park, images of grizzly bears, elk, bison, and bald eagles seem to go hand in hand with the park itself. But over the past two years, “Yellowstone Live” has also found a surprising addition to those ranks: the beaver.
James Hogan, a wildlife cinematographer who is following a number of animals for live broadcasts throughout the park for “Yellowstone Live,” has been filming beavers for decades. With his lengthy experience tracking these animals, he’s had plenty of experience in seeing how the tiniest exposure to them can garner fast fans.

Each weekday at 2 p.m., Dan Abrams talks to America for an hour about the law, politics and media. He’s been working steadily to expand the conversation.
Abrams hosts an afternoon show on satellite-broadcaster SiriusXM, where he holds forth on the Mueller Report and other topics that cross over from the legal world to the one we live in every day. He’s often spotted on “Good Morning America,” owing to a chief legal analyst role he has with ABC News. He’s making the literary rounds as well, with a book about a crucial law case involving Theodore Roosevelt. He continues to run his company, Abrams Media, which publishes the media-news web site Mediaite, and is leading a project that its namesake calls “the big enchilada”: Law & Crime, a live trial network that delivers courtroom cases of great interest via broadband and other venues and counts A&e as an investor.

On the second day of summer, it snowed in Montana.
At upper elevations in and around Yellowstone National Park, there were multiple days of some very uncharacteristic June weather. It may seem like that turn of meteorological events would be cause for concern for a production team staring down four straight nights of live programming from America’s most famous national park. But it may have turned out to be a last unexpected piece to the puzzle.
“The backdrop is fantastic. I am the only person here who was thrilled that it snowed,” Al Berman joked with reporters this past weekend. As an executive producer on the series, Berman knew that having snow in key areas of the park, particularly in the Lamar Valley region, would make for some incredible images of high-profile animal occupants walking along a wintery-looking ground past the end of spring.

“Yellowstone Live” finished its debut four-night run on a Wednesday last August. But before the week was over, the team behind the show knew they wanted to take on the ambitious live TV nature event again, and they knew exactly what this year’s version needed.
Baby animals. Lots and lots of baby animals.
Beginning Sunday night, Nat Geo will present another quartet of primetime one-hour installments, capturing the activity happening in the park at this summer’s opening. Teams of camera crews will be broadcasting live footage of animals and natural phenomena, mixed in with pre-recorded segments to help give audiences at home some context for what they’re seeing. Showrunner James Smith said that having this event earlier this year was a direct response to wanting to feature smaller young animals as part of the series’ broadcasts.
“July and August gets very dry, but May and June is when it’s really lush.

Megyn Kelly’s NBC program ended in October, but she has now truly signed off from the network.
The colorful anchor and NBCUniversal have officially come to terms on her exit from the company, ending a frenetic chapter in TV-industry history and starting, perhaps, a new round of speculation about what she might do next.
“The parties have resolved their differences, and Megyn Kelly is no longer an employee of NBC,” NBC News said in a statement Friday.
NBC in October cancelled her morning talk program, “Megyn Kelly Today” after she opened one broadcast that month with a discussion of Halloween costumes and wearing blackface that drew criticism not only on social media, but also from NBC News colleagues including Al Roker and Craig Melvin. The decision brought to an end a fizzling experiment that matched the former Fox News anchor known for an outsized on-screen presence to a format best known for lighter fare.

Megyn Kelly and NBC News are said to be close to a $30 million settlement deal that will pay out the full value of the time remaining on her three-year contract.
News that the formal parting of Kelly and NBC is getting closer was previously reported Tuesday by the New York Post. A person familiar with the situation said the remaining haggling was not about money but the specifics of the non-compete clause and non-disclosure agreements for which NBC has pushed. The talks are not expected to conclude until next week because of Thursday’s Thanksgiving holiday.
Reps for NBCUniversal, NBC News and Kelly declined comment.
Kelly’s imminent exit is the last stage of a misplaced bet by NBC News chairman Andrew Lack, who wagered big money on luring the former Fox News star to a three-year deal in early 2017.
Kelly was removed nearly a month ago as host of the “Megyn Kelly Today” 9 a.

Et has learned that Today weekend co-host Craig Melvin is in the running to replace Matt Lauer as co-host of Today.
A source at the show tells Et that both NBC and staff are fans of 38-year-old Melvin. Melvin currently anchors MSNBC Live on weekdays, and is co-anchor of Today Saturday edition.
“This would give the network the opportunity to make Melvin into a star at NBC,” the source says. “This would be clean slate.”
Melvin has been married to Espn sports anchor Lindsay Czarniak since 2011. The couple has two children together.
As for the possibility that Hoda Kotb would replace Lauer, our source says that would be “highly doubtful,” as Kotb and Kathie Lee Gifford’s Today hour is already a huge success, and they wouldn't want to change the dynamic.

NBC knew its day of Matt Lauer reckoning was coming. It just didn’t think it would end like this: Abrupt and in disgrace.
Lauer was in the middle of a two-year contract extension, signed last November, that kept him at the helm of “Today” through November 2018 at around $20 million a year. But Lauer’s tenure at “Today” frequently seemed precariously close to ending, as NBC groomed countless potential replacements while extending his contract.
Now, Lauer is the second morning-show anchor, following “CBS This Morning” host Charlie Rose, to be fired in recent weeks following reports and accusations of sexual harassment.
The departures could upend the tight morning-show race, particularly the competition for first place between “Today” and ABC’s “Good Morning America.” The daypart makes as much as $1 billion annually, and “Today,” as the demo leader, takes the largest slice of that cash pie.
