A New Year is just around the corner, and Netflix’s upcoming roster of Original titles includes over 100 returning shows that will be back for new seasons. Some Netflix shows remain unclear on whether they’ll ever return, and in the case of the below, we suspect they’ve all been quietly canceled.
For these shows, we refer to them as ghost canceled. This means they’ve been effectively canceled behind the scenes but haven’t been publicly announced. These announcements are either because Netflix won’t confirm or nobody behind the show publicly announced the cancelation.
As always, cancelations are due to a number of reasons. With a few of these, it’ll be purely down to the length of time since the last season premiered, and then you’ve got the usual issues of performance.

The Sharpie Is Mightier: ‘Pissed Off’ Writers with Clever Signs Make Noise from the WGA Picket Lines
“No pages without fair wages!” “Don’t you want to know how ‘The Last of Us’ ends?” “Please don’t make me have to move back to Ohio!”
The WGA Strike of 2023 is now in full swing, and the writers who formed picket lines Tuesday afternoon across Los Angeles and New York City are mad as hell. Speaking of lines, those clever ones above were just a few of the phrases written on the poster boards of Hollywood’s writers as they protested what they feel to be unfair wages, a devaluing of their work by the studios, networks, and streamers, and an “existential” fight for entertainment writing as a viable profession. If you believe the pen to be mightier, maybe don’t mess with writers.
“To be out here today and see the unity of writers, to fight for our careers, to keep from turning us into gig workers...

Top Hollywood writers took to social media to express defiant support for their first union walkout in 15 years and showed their feelings about studios being unwilling to meet their contract demands.
The Writers Guild of America announced the work stoppage will begin Tuesday afternoon. The union also released a list of claimed responses from the studios to their proposals, which helped fire up members.
“The Shield put FX on the map,” wrote FX’s Snowfall writer-producer Sal Calleros. “Mad Men put AMC on the map. House of Cards put Netflix on the map. Writers did that. Not some CEO. Know what you get when you put CEOs in creative lanes? You get Quibi.”
“They shut down an entire industry rather than part with less than 3% of their record profits,” wrote Javier Grillo-Marxuach (Lost).

When Krister Johnson brought on NFL running back Marshawn Lynch as a guest star for the improvised murder mystery-comedy, “Murderville,” no one had any idea what to expect. He was very quiet when he met him at the fitting but on set things changed very quickly. “He bounces into his first scene and is asking to change his name to Baggobich and he’s cussing and excited. After his taping, Will Arnett came back to video village and we felt like we captured lightening in a bottle,” he tells Gold Derby during our recent webchat (watch the exclusive video interview above). He did cause a bit of concern when he unexpectedly tackled Rob Huebel during a take and Johnson thought Lynch may have crushed his windpipe. “As soon as the take ended, I ran out to Rob and I was like, ‘Are you okay,’ and he was like, ‘I’m fine.

Netflix’s “Murderville” is angling for major Emmy attention with the streamer submitting the show for consideration in the variety sketch series categories, where it would potentially face-off against the likes of “A Black Lady Sketch Show” and reigning champ, “Saturday Night Live.” However, Variety has learned exclusively that the Television Academy deemed the Krister Johnson-developed show a comedy series, where it will now compete with shows such as “Abbott Elementary,” “Ted Lasso” and its streaming counterparts “Cobra Kai” and “The Chair.”
Along with vying for attention for outstanding comedy series, star Will Arnett, who plays the clumsy and hilarious detective Terry Seattle, will submit for lead actor (comedy). Three of the guest detectives have been submitted for guest actor (comedy): Conan O’Brien, Marshawn Lynch and Kumail Nanjiani. After a leaked draft opinion all but confirmed that the U.S. Supreme Court is working toward abolishing the right to an abortion, CNN decided for some reason to bring Jeffrey Toobin on the air to talk about it.
And a big topic at hand: Whether or not the leak itself, rather than the decision, is bad for the Supreme Court.
Of course, the cable network was thoroughly mocked by frustrated supporters of Roe v Wade who saw both the decision to have Toobin on, and what the discussion focused on, as a sad failure on CNN’s part.
Toobin appeared on “Anderson Cooper 360” in a segment excerpted and shared by CNN media reporter Brian Stelter. The excerpt shared by Stelter focused on a peculiar element of the matter: The leak itself.
"There has never been a leak of a vote, much less an actual opinion, much less in a case of this significance,...

Netflix’s new comedy series “Murderville” has an inherently funny premise – the show stars Will Arnett as a detective, and in each episode a different special guest star plays his new partner. Except while Arnett and his co-stars have the outline of a script, the guest star walks onto set with no script, and has to improvise their way through the investigation until, at the end of the episode, they have to determine who they think committed that episode’s murder.
But how, exactly, does this work? Is it all really improvised? How long does each episode take to shoot? All good questions with fascinating answers, it turns out.
TheWrap recently spoke with “Murderville” showrunner Krister Johnson about the series, and he answered all of our burning questions.

Call it Whose Crime Is It Anyway?! Will Arnett leads Murderville, a partially improvised comedy as Terry Seattle, a ridiculously serious homicide detective who gets a new partner in each of the six episodes. Only it’s the celebrity guest stars — which include Conan O’Brien and Sharon Stone — who don’t have a clue…or a script. “The only thing [they] know going in is that they’re playing a homicide trainee,” explains showrunner Krister Johnson. (Credit: Darren Michaels/Netflix) “They know nothing about any of the other characters. They don’t even glimpse the set until they walk into their first scene.” By the end of the half hour, each celeb must guess whodunit based on the scripted action that has unfolded around them. “Honorable mention goes to Sharon Stone, who ends up drenched in fake blood and never wavers,” raves Johnson. “There’s a reason she’s a Hollywood icon.

"For Terry, every day means a new murder case and a new celebrity guest star as his partner," it continues.
"But here’s the catch: each episode's guest star isn’t being given the script," teases the description of the series.
"They have no idea what’s about to happen to them. Together, the guest star and Terry Seattle will have to improvise their way through the case... but it will be up to each celebrity guest alone to name the killer."
"Join them as they punch a one-way ticket to Murderville," it concludes.

Netflix has released the first trailer for “Murderville,” the new crime comedy series starring Will Arnett.
The series is adapted from the BAFTA award-winning BBC3 series “Murder in Successville,” which was created by Andy Brereton and Avril Spary. Arnett stars as Terry Seattle, a senior homicide detective who is paired with a different celebrity guest star to solve a murder case in every episode. The show’s twist is that the guest stars aren’t given a script, forcing them to improvise their way through the case and ultimately guess who the killer is at the end of the episode.
The trailer shows Arnett’s Seattle interacting with his guest stars, coaching them along as new developments in the absurd cases reveal themselves.
“You’re supposed to gasp,” Seattle deadpans to guest star Kumail Nanjiani after an officer declares there’s been a murder. “Weird gasp,” he mutters when Nanjiani follows his instructions.

Kevin Sorbo claims he recently made “a scene in public” by refusing to put on a mask at a coffee shop. It isn’t clear if this actually happened, but it is true that Sorbo caused another scene… on Twitter.
Sorbo, who it must be said did not provide photographic or video evidence of the event, said on Tuesday that during a recent visit to Starbucks in Los Angeles, the staff asked him to put on a mask. That would be because Los Angeles County recently brought back indoor mask mandates as Covid-19 cases rise.
Here’s how the “Hercules: The Legendary Journeys” actor described what happened next. “I’m not proud of this but i just made a scene in public for the first time in my life. I walked into Starbucks and they asked me to put a mask on. I yelled this is Bs. I turned around and walked out.

By: Dan Moore “I’m just a doctor. I don’t even know what kind of doctor I am. I think I’m a brain surgeon.” That’s how Rob Huebel described the character of Dr. Owen Maestro, a character he’s portrayed through seven seasons of Adult Swim’s “Children’s Hospital” and now on Netflix’s “Medical Police.” This quote pretty much sums up the whole vibe of Netflix’s new comedy/action/thriller “Medical Police”. It may sound outlandish, but it actually works. Especially with sidekick Lola Spratt (Erin Hayes). The characters find themselves in the most intense situations that should be taken seriously until they start bantering back and forth. Leaving the viewer to never really know what to expect, in a good way. The show was created by Rob Corddry, David Wain, Krister Johnson, and Jonathan Stern. The show was scored by composer Matt Novack.

Normally, describing a show by saying that it flings everything it can against the wall is not a compliment. With “Medical Police,” it’s some of the highest praise you can give it. When a deadly virus is unleashed in various major metropolitan areas around the world, doctors Lola Spratt (Erinn Hayes) and Owen Maestro (Rob Huebel) become the only two people with the knowledge, skills, and disregard for conventions of storytelling to be able to thwart this evil plan.

Several other Childrens Hospital alums, Lake Bell, Corddry, Ken Marino and Malin Akerman, are set for recurring roles.
Medical Police, which had been in the works for awhile, including at TBS at one point, is considered an offshoot of Corddry’s Emmy-winning Adult Swim series Childrens Hospital. He had hinted in interviews that he was working on a spinoff series.
Written by Corddry, Johnson, Stern and Wain and directed by Wain and Bill Benz, Medical Police is described as an action-packed thriller, mystery and love story. It centers on two American physicians (Hayes and Huebel) stationed at a pediatric hospital in São Paulo, Brazil, who discover a civilization-threatening virus.
