Update: The following press release may be fake, waiting on official confirmation from WB.
Update #2: Officially confirmed fake by Warner Brothers’ Michael Tritter on Twitter.
When Marion Cotillard and Joseph Gordon-Levitt were both rumored over the past few weeks for The Dark Knight Rises, I doubted it because I figured, among many other things, Christopher Nolan wouldn’t just reuse so much of his Inception cast, with Tom Hardy already cast as Bane.
Sometimes you’re wrong.
A press release from Warner Bros. (via Collider) doesn’t just tell us that the beautiful duo will be joining Nolan again, but also lets us know what roles they’ll be playing. And, surprise surprise, they’re villains. Cotillard is Talia al Ghul, daughter of Ra’s, Liam Neeson‘s antagonist from Batman Begins; Gordon-Levitt is gangster Roman Sionis, aka Black Mask. Gregory House has faced down many worthy adversaries in his time. Chi McBride's Edward Vogler failed to get him fired. David Morse's Michael Tritter failed to get him arrested. Anne Dudek's dead Amber failed to get him (permanently) crazy. But none of these opponents had the clout of Candice Bergen. And none of them were playing his girlfriend's mom.
As announced by Entertainment Weekly, Candice Bergen has taken a recurring role as Lisa Cuddy's mother. This five-time Emmy winner and comedic icon feels like such a perfect choice as a House-foil that it's scary. House himself should definitely be scared.
